Question for the esteemed one...would I melt if I wore my winter woollens in 120 F heat?

Only one way to find out...

What is the optimum number of people to have in a band? (I've always believed it to be three.)

Well, there is no "optimum." I tend to think four works out well- two guitarists, a bass, and drums.

In addition, how come you see many pop-punk bands with 5 or 6 people? Doesn't that seem excessive for punk?

I don't follow pop-punk much, so I'm not even sure which bands you're referring to. I don't know, though, it would seem to me that pop-punk is rather simple, musically, so it wouldn't need 5-6 people.

Bad circulation, probably. I've always had that problem too. :(

What's your 'other-religion'

Nadrojism.

Hey, I was joking but that does have rather a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Anyway, as I said earlier, I don't really have a set religion, but I'm interested in existentialist philosophy and Zen Buddhism.

and if you're not a Christian then why do you hang out here?

Mostly because I really like a lot of the people here. Because this Secular music forum is filled with people who have interesting music tastes and interesting ideas about music, and are just generally fun to talk to. Because CF's General Apologetics is the best place I've found on the net to discuss philosophy.

i have 2 questions.

1. do you have a southern accent
2. perhaps you could answer theFijian's question as to why there are so few female rock guitarists (he had the other instruments in there as well, but i'm going to simplify it to guitar)

Aye!! The people demand an answer, or things could turn all 'Mutiny on the Bounty' in here!

Also, do you want to know how Modest Mouse played tonight in Glasgow?

Not really. Maybe a small one when compared to northerners, but nothing on the scale of most southerners. Lexington's far enough north that that accent really isn't prominent around here.

I have no idea. My guess is that rock music has been a more stereotypically masculine movement. It's all been very active, rebellious, aggressive; all the things a man is supposed to be more apt to be drawn to. And the guitarist has become the hero (a more masculine figure) of the rock band. So, it would seem sociologically probable that male guitarists would be more prominent than female ones.

How's that?

Haha, I like it. Nadrojism. Hey, Zen Buddist is barely a religion! You're just a philosophy guy, eh?

Here's another question(maybe it's been answered and I just missed it?). What's your reasons for rejecting Christianity

I've gotta agree with that one!

Just a philosophy guy? ;) But yeah, I'm a philosophy major in school, so it's a big part of who I am. And I'm sometimes confused at what essentially makes something "religion" rather than a "philosophy."

More or less, because I saw that I had no reason to accept it in the first place. The main reason I was a Christian in the first 18 years of my life was because I had been raised with it, and was therefore biased towards it. Once I backed away from the Christian faith, I found that it wasn't the only one that explained the world adequately. With that knowledge, the only thing I can do is wait on accepting a worldview until it gives me a specific reason to do so. Christianity just hasn't done that so far.

Yep...Rush were one of the bands I was thinking of as well. I find it amazing when a band can have a full sound with only 3 members...it is even more impressive when one can play bass while singing (I find bass and vocals more difficult than playing guitar while singing.)

I'm working towards a minor in philosophy at the moment. What philosophy classes are you currently in, and which philosophers do you find particularly captivating?
