Something about blacking out and knowing I never existed is kind of frightening.

What's your take on it?

I have thought about the same, what it would be like to die and not exist.

Does it scare me? No it really doesn't, at least at this point in my life, but it is difficult to fathom not existing.

Not afraid.

I've had a good life. Kids are grown and happy, I have a good marriage, lots of friends, traveled, learned and loved. I have no complaints.

Do I want to die? No. But like I said, I'm not afraid of death.

Good to hear you've had a fulfilling life.

While I will admit a very strong aversion to personal injury, and cessation of life, I would not say that I am actually scared of being dead. But, I'd very much like to see my kids grow up, and to grow old with my wife.

In my understanding of how the brain works, I cease to exist every night when I fall asleep. Tomorrow, my brain will remember me from today.

I don't dwell on it.

There are many layers to the fear of Death.

You may be afraid that you are going to die because of your soul, but it may never occur to you that you are afraid in your mind as well, then you might discover you are afraid in your mind and forget that you are afraid in your soul.

the point is to face fear if you can, but not if you are not ready

What is a "soul"?

Something about blacking out and knowing I never existed is kind of frightening.

1) I have existed. Death doesn't change that.
2) When I am dead, I won't know that I am dead.

I'm not particularly scared of death. I am scared of threats to my life. That's not quite the same thing.

You do realize that death is a threat to your life, right?

People may not be scared of death as an abstract concept. But everyone is scared of all the concrete realities of dying.

No, it isn't. Death is the result of a threat to my life. Death is not a threat in and of itself, because I won't exist to be threatened.

People may not be scared of death as an abstract concept. But everyone is scared of all the concrete realities of dying.

Of dying? Yes, absolutely. I would hate to die a painful or terrifying death. It is my time alive up until the moment of death that I find unpleasant to contemplate, not the time afterwards.

It is relatively easy to be nonchalant about death, when you are not expecting its arrival any time soon. I suspect things might be different when you are only hours or days away from it.

Of course, the fun thing will be to wake up on the other side of it, and discover that you still exist.

Not as much as I once was, I know more now about what to expect upon awakening in the resurrection halls on the mansion worlds. While I sleep in death awaiting the resurrection, my transcripts will be in the possession of the indwelling spirit awaiting the creation of a "new form" that will receive my surviving soul. Jesus rose from the tomb in this new form.

BTW, there is no recollection in death for the un-salvaged.
