I'm pretty sure I'm a failed extrovert. I adopted a lot of introvert tendencies but ultimately I am most comfortable in a small group. I enjoy and seek the company of others, but I am completely inept in social mores.

Your not failed, being an introvert is a quality of half the population nothing wrong with being a quiet person. God bless you. ps I too am an introvert.

I don't believe I truly am an introvert, more that I am by nature an extrovert but because of ineptitude have adopted introversion. I'm not really suited to either mode, but introversion is simply the path of least resistance.

I do hope that your choice of being is working well for you I can understand your position. Thank you for sharing this aria that I at first did not consider.

Rarely do I consider labels, and outside of the occasional pity party my existence is pretty functional. Ultimately, this is where God has equipped me to operate in both my talents and desires and I am satisfied in Christ.

Aside from the chaos of it all, the lockdown was one of the happiest times of my entire life on a personal level. No having to go out. No expectation of going out. If anything, everyone wanted everyone else to stay home.

The masks, the social distancing, the lockdown, 2020 was one of the best years I've ever had.

If that doesn't make me an introvert, idk what does.
I can relate to that I must say the lockdown has given me much pleasure too. Thanks thecolorsblend.

I thought that I should add my own experiences as an introverted person being as I started this thread. I have always been a quiet natured person that is quiet, shy in the company of large groups I prefer small groups our better still one on one company. Growing up and as a young adult, I found it difficult to interact with people at parties and other functions as I was unable to join in with the conversation. I found myself looking for other people in the group that appeared to be introverted or shy and made myself available for conversation at least with them. I believe that being introverted is strongly associated with shyness but not all of the time as a true introverted personality is just simply a quiet person. I do open up with people once I have gotten to know them well and I have had many friends over the years I'm very blessed to have met my wife some 30 years ago and she is a quiet natured person as well they do say that opposites attract in the case of my marriage someone must have put glue on the same ends of the magnets. I would never change my personality even if I could as I'm so grateful for all the blessings in my life.

Introverted. I'm also hard of hearing which makes it difficult to socialise in noisy backgrounds. I suppose I'm seen as a wet blanket sometimes, who doesn't join in much.

But I've got my reasons. A couple of years ago a bloke I play sport with and against said to me "Now I know why you don't join in much". It turned out he lost about 40% of his hearing almost overnight. They think it was due to a virus.

He has two hearing aids now (I wear one because my other ear is so deaf it's not worth wearing a second), but even so he can't do the social chit chat that he used to. He added "... and I was pretty good at back chat!" So that aspect of things has changed due to his hearing loss.

From life long experience, I know that hearing aids are not very helpful in noisy backgrounds.

In my last job before retirement, I did a community service job driving older and disabled clients to hospitals, medical appointments, shopping etc. Sometimes I'd get a client who wanted to talk the whole way (usually a woman but not always), and if it was a long trip, I was glad to offload them! It wore me out!

There is a Dummies book "Success for Introverts" which may be of use to some people. Forget about being the life of the party - success for introverts lies in other directions.

As for myself, I see a psychiatrist a couple of times a year, mainly for spiritual discussions as we both share similar experiences in that regard. He's always at me to write, saying that he thought in my case the gift of "observation" was pretty well developed (probably forced by my hearing loss as well, as I rely on my eyes).

He remarked "Other people are doing things, but you're observing things. By itself it's a sterile gift, but it can be used to get other people to reflect on things" (if committed to paper so other people can read what you've seen and thought about).

Definitely introverted.

Usually people wear me out but then again I like to talk with people online and I don't get as weary as if I'm physically with people. I am enfp, I do need my time alone but when I have recharged I don't mind big crowds but I prefer to be with few nice people rather than big crowds talking small talk. So I'm kind of in the middle there.
