John Kerry wastes a lot of jet fuel flying around in his private jet to push for money to combat climate change. That's a lot worse than flying first class. However, she is using taxpayer money and is supposed to be a servant of the people.
I read that no government money was used for this particular trip.

That would be great. If it is her own money she can spend it as she wishes and I withdraw my objection.
I would be surprised if she used her own money, she did not for the $35,000 ticket to the event where she wore the $30,000 dress. Who pays for these things?

Are you talking about the Met Gala? That was hypocritical.

I read that no government money was used for this trip last night and have to find it again.

Although most polls use campaign funds for such trips, Team AOC declined to say why he was selected to fly first class, how much the ticket cost, or who paid for the trip. Spokesman Lauren Heath will only say that “no government funding was used on this flight.”

What kind of transportation would be acceptable to you for public servants?

The most important thing to me is that people lead by example. The office of President aside, they should use the same transportation that the majority of people use. Kerry is publicly very much for getting rid of fossil fuels, but he wastes fuel like crazy. If the mayor of New York thinks crime is under control he should ride the subway.

I'm not seeing the problem. If she wants to tax the rich, that doesn't mean she can't be rich. It just means she'll have to pay more taxes lol. Start a thread when she gets what she wants but refuses to pay; that's when she'll be a hypocrite.

Is she even that rich? AOC seemed like upper-middle class at best to me. Serena forbid she do first class every now and again.

I think that is a valid enough point.

Good call; I really don't know. I took advantage of the premise to make the point, but I don't know that she's rich. :)

My understanding is that the government will not pay for domestic first class travel for members of Congress. At the same time, government workers (including military) can have frequent flyer accounts with various airlines and accrue points for trips paid for by the government.

Because of this, because of the number of points that some Congresspeople accrue, they often use their points to upgrade their flights to first class. I also believe they can pay to upgrade to First Class, using their own money. Last, some airlines apparently will frequently give a free upgrade to members of Congress if there is space available on the flight.

They should sit with the regular people and listen to them.

Or they should be left in peace like any of us want when we fly.

Oh noes! Flying first class on a US airline! A whole 40 inches of legroom!

The pearl-clutching is hilarious. First, it's about a $500 fare at best, assuming that she didn't score a free upgrade from the airline as a status flyer, use FF points, or simply pay to upgrade.

Second - the idea that she was enjoying some swanky 1%-er experience in what amounts to the equivalent of Premium Economy on any decent airline is roll on the floor funny.

For the record - here's what the oh-my-goodness first class experience on AA domestic looks like

I think AOC is one of those social media personalities who utilize the internet to hear concerns of constituents. After interactions with "regular people" in the Twitter-verse online I am certain you can ascertain why she chooses to pay for first class. Too many people ask her for dates in coach!
