Good for you! I hope that you can find time to do that often.

If you enjoy riding your bike, maybe there is a group that you can ride with on a weekly basis in your area. Most of the time, they are social groups for all age levels and abilities. You might get to see some neat stuff in your area and meet interesting people.

woo hoo, bike in honor of Lance Armstrong! (he is from the city I live in so its a really big thing for us here :) )

I am not doing so well on my healthy eating. I think I am GAINING weight. I have realized though it is because I don't have a good schedule going. I am at school/work from 10 am till 5pm and rarely have time (or the money) to take a break to get some grub. So I need to figure out how to pack a lunch that isn't too nasty or unhealthy. But hey, the first step is to realize what needs fixing right?

I just returned from holidaying and i have to admit to having had more than a few wonderously calorific meals - they were sumptuous, but did little to halt the weight gain! Having said that, i haven't been able to resume normal eating habits since my return, because my normal eating habits weren't healthy anyway! Still, i am going to try, honestly.

JesseB.,

How did your bike ride go? I hope pleasantly.

Blanton, ukok, and OpenBook hope you are all doing well on examining and planning your eating habits! I had fast food for lunch today, so today isn't a poster day for me either! Tonight I think I'll make veggie beef soup--so that will get some actual veggies into me.

Plus, I didn't get my scheduled run in this morning, because I didn't have a clean sports bra! But, that load goes in the wash this evening so I will be able to run in the morning! I'm also thinking about adding a long walk in the mornings that I'm not running, so the habit of getting up and getting moving is strengthened.

Blanton, have you thought about having leftovers from your (healthy ;)) dinner as lunch? That's what I've been mostly doing, and killing two birds with one stone--eating better and cleaning out the fridge! Maybe you can get some healthy snacks and bag them up to take with you during the day--pretzels, raisins, fruit, raw veggies and some ranch or other dip--and having these in a bag/container somewhere is much better than eating out of a vending machine, healthwise and moneywise. Plus, if you're like me, you won't feel like pigging out when you get home if you have a snack.

Edited to fix paragraph order so it doesn't read like I'm hopping around from random thought to random thought.

hey..i'll join if it's not too late :)

i'm 18, and my main goal is to have a more healthy lifestyle

i need to exercise regularily...biking, running, and lifting weights...plus i'd like to get into a regular sleeping pattern (no more staying up all night!)

also i need to eat healthier!

and all that should lead to weight loss (i'm not overweight..but could still do without some :) )

I'm struggling as well. I won't go into details right now, but I'm trying very hard to cut down on carbs and sugar- the real things that make us overwieght.

Actually, the real things that make us overweight are all those calories that we eat that we don't burn off. Carbs and protein have 4 cal per gram, fat has 9 cal per gram and alcohol has 7 cal per gram. If we overeat cabs and protein, then that can turn into fat.

Cutting carbs can help you lose weight--just like cutting down any source of calories.

I hope that all of you have done well this past week in making healthy choices and becoming more healthy and more able to live life to its fullest! Welcome, Matt and princess_ballet, and I hope you can make good choices for yourself this week.

I ran again this morning--faster than usual, which was nice. I'm doing week four's program over again, since I like to feel really capable at the end of the week, and not like I'm dragging! Yesterday's meeting with the measuring devices saw me up a pound from last week, and holding steady on the inches. That's still two pounds and an inch down from when I started, and a major shift in attitude about my body image.

Sleep! That is my focus now--getting in the bed and then getting up earlier! That will be quite a hurdle, since I go to bed and just lay there awake for a couple of hours now--until it's as late as I usually go to bed. So I need to get myself tired during the day!

Also, tomorrow I will try to get up and go for a walk to get in some exercise every day that I'm not running.

How are the rest of you doing in making healthy choices?

I convinced Mr. Rain to go for daily walks with me! Part of it is to improve our "together time" but part of it is to get us both in shape!

I've also beeen using fitday.com, when time allows! My schedule is so hectic and stressful lately! I'm hoping my new daily walks will help me to calm down a lil bit!!!

Congratulations, Rain! I hope this gives you the encouragement you need to keep making healthy choices!

Well, last week, I ran once and then was just too lazy to get out of bed in time to run. :( But this morning, I got up and got going--and felt great about it (as usual once I get my tail out the door!).

I noticed that I'm currently four pounds lighter than I was when I started--that combined with the great feelings I have when I'm out jogging should be enough to keep me aware of how much better it is to make healthy choices than unhealthy! Now if I can just translate that into less sweets and more veggies, that would be fantastic.

Hope to hear how the rest of you are doing in reaching your goals!

Yes, as a matter of fact I do! heehee

I found the program I'm using on the web--it's called couch-to-5k--where you start off slow and build up to 3 miles/30 minutes of running over 9 weeks. I just started week 5--although I've been lazy a couple of weeks (and repeated a week) so it's really the 7th week I've been doing it. I thought I would die the first day--running one minute and walking one minute, but now I can run/jog five minutes straight--something I thought would be impossible the first time I had to do it.

This really works for me (so far) because it is structured and yet I can still work at my own pace. The site also has a forum to talk to other people who have/are using the program and it's helpful to read other people's experiences.

Each time I start a new week, I can't believe that I can actually keep going at the new rate/time--but I seem to be able to! At the end of this week, I'll have to run/jog for 20 minutes no walking! eeks! But I really feel like I've accomplished something when I can mark off the weeks and look at how far I've come.

I've never liked running, but it was because I tried to go too fast and too far--which is just miserable. But now I have a system to stick to. Good luck!
