I am sick of the threads. So any time the police would like to stop brutalizing people, it would be nice. It would be really nice to better train and equip our police too, as many of these incidents are a result of improper training, staffing, and equipment.

Most cops are great, but there are enough bad ones out there and good ones that will look the other way that I make myself scarce when I see a cop I'm not familiar with.

sure but what if group x has been shown to hide evidence of its wrongdoings on multiple occasions over and over again?
If group x is homogeneous, then I suppose it would be fair to blame the group as a whole. But, within the group we're talkinfabput, there are many good and a few bad members. Those who cover up evil arrno less evil than those who do it. But, they're still the minority.

The problem is that good cops are not turning in criminals in their midst, sometimes by misplaced loyalty, and sometimes by fear of retaliation if they do uphold their oath.

Until those who help cover up crimes committed by their fellow officers feel free to turn them in, we have a huge problem.

Think again. Broad brush strokes that encompass all police as bad is stupid.
Like with Muslims and their more extremist varieties... How do we tell the good ones from the bad ones? To me, all cops come in the same uniform and as a citizen, I don't get to choose what kind of cop I'm gonna have to deal with. That's why I'd rather hold them all up to a higher standard, to insure the most protection for the most vulnerable.

The way to deal with good cops is the same way to deal with bad cops: say nothing other than your name. Don't argue. Make it clear that you're not a threat to their safety. Record everything. Comply with all lawful commands. If you think a command is unlawful, ask "are you ordering me to ...?", and if the answer is yes, obey the command. If you're arrested, call a lawyer as soon as possible and demand your right to call one.

that's assuming they let you record everything.
i recall cases where people were arrested for recording other peoples arrests or something along those lines.
and if you don't have any other witnesses around and no recording it's your word against the officers so most of the time tough luck.

You shouldn't have to be at full butt-clench levels of paranoid activity when interacting with the police. One should be able to have a professional yet friendly interaction with them without you having to worry about them digging for something to arrest you on, or them flying off the handle and abusing you. The fact that so many people are having to practically become nearly mute lawyers whenever a cop interacts with them is a dire sign of what policing is.

I was wondering when someone was going to see through all the horse manure and post something with a bit of insight.

Well I mean think about it this way. At any given moment you or I could be Walter Scott. Killed by a member of an organization that swore to uphold the law and then have evidence planted on you to clear his name, because it's his word> your word without proof. It's pretty nerve racking to know that me getting pulled over could be my final breaths because a cop didn't like the look of my face. So yea no.

It's not that all police are bad but it's more like well I don't know which one you are that particular day.

Part of the problem is numerical analysis and media representation...neither are any good.

I don't think its paranoid or unreasonable at all. The officer's job is to investigate crime. If he or she thinks you might have commited a crime, it's often not prudent for them to tell yoh at the outset. So, when you're pulled over, you don't know whether it truly is for a driving violation or suspicion of something worse. And, so you have no idea what innocent comment from could unwittingly arouse suspicion. And, generally speaking, people are nervous around police, which further increases the possibility that you might unwittingly make an incriminating statement. I can't blame cops for being hyper-vigilant; it's their job. But, I can choose to make sure that I don't say or do anything that arouses articulable suspicion.

Is anyone else sick of how people are cherry picking isolated incidents (some not even known as a fact but alleged) to point a bony finger at cops, yet not a single thread about police protecting the people, putting their lives on the lives, saving others (etc etc etc).......which they do on a daily basis. I guess that's not "newsworthy" enough or just cause to get one's gut tied in a self-righteous knot. Nah, let's just cop bash and paint them all with a broad brushstroke.

Yes, there are bad cops who sometimes do bad things. I hope they are all brought to justice. But using these incidents to pile on to the oh-so-trendy cop hate is lame. You could cherry pick any group like that and the implications of an entire group that just as nonsensical.
Instead of whining about people discussing cops gone bad, why don't you post some good things done by cops?

Funny that instead of making this something positive, you have created another hate thread, only you are going after members here....

And last time I checked, cops in general aren't carrying out a reign of terror doing whatever they please in some nazi-like fashion

In some places, they are. Ferguson, for example, is being sued by the DOJ for failing to implement reforms that their own advisers approved of. NYPD plays fast and loose with the legal definition of a "gravity knife" so they can shake down stagehands and carpenters going to work, and Chicago had a friggin torture dungeon. Unwarranted property seizure is up across the board.

Granted, in some cases, it may not be the police pulling the strings - sometimes, it's because city government has put assigned them the role of revenue generator instead of public protector, but even in those cases, it's still the police carrying out the orders.

On the one hand, I understand your point. On the other hand, it's still kind of sad that we have to be so cautious around a group of people who are supposed to be here to protect us.

And that is the biggest lie we are told....that they protect us. LIE!

If they actually protected us we would not need all the guns we have for protection.

I agree. I also think the officer who does something wrong should be held accountable rather than being let off because he is a cop.

I think its stupid. Most cops aren't killers who open fire instantly. They are people with families, lives...etc. They are people that when they have no choice but to shoot, usually go see a psych after because of the trauma of it. I personally was disgusted by Beyonce at the Super Bowl dressed up as a blank panther in a song about hating cops. Mind you she DEMANDED a cop escort (cars) to the event and to the stage. Irony.
