Having an unusual or scary experience in meditation (even TM) does not equal demon possession.

Jesus had some interesting experiences in the desert, after all. There's a certain kind of spirituality that actually seeks out "scary experiences" as a kind of asceticism, like monks that go out into the desert or who decide to live a solitary life. People can experience what is called "desolation" and all sorts of negative feelings due to asceticism and even just due to prayer, and that's recognized as just a stage in development and growth.

But none of that's the same as actually being possessed by a demon.

If you folks would just take a step back, breathe for a minute, and take a look at some of the OP's other postings, you would find out that she's schizophrenic.

What you should be doing is recommending that she be treated by a qualified mental health professional instead of speculating about whether or not she has the holy spirit, or what kind of "demon" is or is not troubling her.

I would venture to say that none of us here are qualified to treat her condition.

Thank you for trying to sway my memory as a 19 year old. A powerful evil spirit was inside me,literally tossed me up and down violently, I spewed out words and screams , I had uncontrollable body movements and saw the dark spirit in my room one evening. I was not a Christian however my mother was praying for me tirelessly while I was at this Sidha training event in Utah. I was the only woman out of 1500 people that had this reaction. Needless to say I was the talk of the event as they thought I had broken through several levels of chakras. Unbeknownst to me and them, God allowed a demon to shake me around so that I can tell my story today that this is REAL and to stay very far away from it. Unfortunately, some Charismatic circles are experiencing the same manifestations. It is often the same experience in those circles.

Or maybe there are just some things we don't fully understand or that have psychological explanations. Throwing the label "demon" on it isn't necessarily helpful, except to say "Don't try brand X". While I am personally cautious towards charismatic/pentecostal religion, I'd never accuse them of being demon-possessed just because their religion involves ecstatic experiences.

You saw a "dark spirit"; did you grow up in a Christian home that emphasized a belief in demons? I'm betting you did. Confusing religious imagery, symbols, and matrices of meaning can often be a problem for people dabbling in eastern religions. It's difficult to contextualize things when you come from a completely different culture.

Discernment is at play here. Not everyone has the ability to discern spirits. I do have that ability as I experienced it. So I can rebuke unclean manifestations that come out of a church. I know the difference.

That's more or less saying the same thing. I don't accept the idea that merely focusing your mind on a single thing leads to demonic posession, or that chanting words has any particular magical power to do so, either. I think people who are demonically possessed are not necessarily affiliated with any particular religion. As @thecolorsblend pointed out, it's just not true that Christians have never experienced possession before. And also, I think possession is extremely rare in our culture, and we are better off understanding mental problems through science and conventional psychology, generally.

Hidden, unconfessed sins, previous traumatic events, hurts from people and churches causing bitterness, wrong done to others that have not been put right and restitution not made, hidden envy, jealousy, party spirit, pride, gossiping not put right with God. All these can invite demonic influence. Get rid of all this garbage through confession and discussion with God, and the demon has nothing left to feed on. I had spiritual problems with evil spirits that if someone or myself wouldn't of casted them out they would just stayed there, maybe you always where somewhat free of them and didn't experience all this, but most, a lot of them entered without me doing anything when i was a little kid. They just like taking advantage of people.

Could it be a spirit of Python? The slave girl of Act 16:16 is often described as having a spirit of divination. It is also rendered as spirit of Python/clairvoyance/prediction. Regardless, in Acts 16:18 Paul spoke to the spirit and it left the girl in the same hour.

I think many Charismatics are far too literal on this sort of thing. In the ancient context of the Old Testament was written a Cobra Spirit was a Seraphim!

Just out of curiosity, why make fun of this post? Are you saying that a dark spirit does not exist? Evil can take many forms. For example, Hinduism is such a form that believes in a "coiled snake" that is unleashed at the base of the spine known as chakras. A mongoose will not be able to help.
