  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Don't try too hard, as the opposite usually happens when you try to be positive. I'll give you some tips...

When a negative situation happens (something annoys you, etc) respond in a positive way. Make it so this person annoying you is a good thing. Make the traffic jam slowing you down something you appreciate. Don't even try that hard, just let it happen.

When a negative thought comes your way try to ignore it. That will stop it. But of course some thoughts are hard to ignore, so if you can't do that, then laugh in its face. You can usually stop negative situations by 'shocking' the situation. Basically doing the opposite of what the situation would call for. So laughing like a loon at a negative thought will make that thought run away as it will be confused.

Thanks. : )

A lot of helpful tips I haven't thought of.

It took me a long time before I thought I could look someone in the eye, being the shy type that preferred time alone growing up so your not alone. My girlfriend was the same way, when anyone ask her why she wouldn't look at them she would say because your ugly. Ah, the good old school days - not - I disliked school so much I had nightmares of being back in it for years after I graduated.

The Occult was a natural attraction to me too - Demonology, Pentagrams, Witchcraft in my late teens. I was not so much a practitioner of it but emersed myself in deeply studying the various schools of thought.

Yeah lol, some people are just plain not pleasant to look at. Disgust usually comes easy to me.

I hated school too. While no one really bullied me, I was extremely shy and it sucked. School was also not a very nurturing place for me. Most of the time I didn't dare think for myself, but just say what I thought the teacher wanted to hear to receive a better grade. A lot of it is just robotic. You play the system.

I loved high school, sure their were bullies but if you push back they didn't bother you so much, in fact they kind of befriended me. The teachers couldn't believe it when I got detention cuz I always got good marks. I still remember when me and my buddies all got kicked out of being able to be outside during lunch.

The only amusing thing about school was how immature some of the teachers were.

I remember having a substitute teacher in German class once. He'd make jokes about how if we didn't concentrate harder he'd send us to a concentration camp. He also made jokes about how ugly Anne Frank was.

Pretty inappropriate.

Some of the German films were also weird and perverted too.

And in third grade we'd watch a full movie (like Disney/Pixar) everyday. It was cool. Too bad he later went to prison for sexual assault of his students.

And we'd watch tons of R rated films in middle and high-school.

I can't tell if I went to fairly uneventful schools or if I just can't remember right now what weird things might have happened. It seems like so many people had crazy stuff happening at their high schools especially.

You probably just can't remember, maybe because it was that crazy lol.

I have other ridiculous stories too. Maybe later.. lol.

Still, I liked a few of my teachers. Some of them were competent and had good heads on their shoulders, and actually encouraged me to think and be creative. And sadly my public school was probably one of the better ones in this country, lol.

Highschool was okay for me. I really began to come out of my shell and realize that I could actually have friendships without compromising myself. But the administration and processes of school were pretty insane. Not really applicable to real life at all besides maybe the social situations.

I've just had two medical school competencies today... firstly, I did a muscoskeletal examination, and then a cranial nerves examination. I pray to God I've passed them both.

Have eaten honey on toast for lunch, with crisps and grapes. Looking forward to grilling some quarter pounder burgers for dinner, and having them in toasted wholemeal bread with cheese. Mmmm.

In terms of culture, I have an insatiable appetite for Iranian and central Asian history at the moment. In my opinion, along with the Medieval history of England and the Ancient history of the Middle East, Iranian history is the most interesting.

Genghis Khan seemed like quite a ferocious fellow- apparently, his love of women have ensured that 1 in every 100 Asians is descended from him. Moreover, the Mongol forces almost invaded and conquered the entirety of Europe, putting our tiny army of knights and peasants to shame, but were only stopped by the death of the Khan. In Afghanistan, where my girlfriend is from, so great was the Mongol terror that parents still use his Genghis' name to frighten little children.

Yeah, I love history.

One of my friends sent me a bunch of edible insects. So I have some crickets with a sour cream and onion flavoring, meal worms and crickets coated in chocolate. and a strawberry lollipop with a scorpion in the middle.
alright so the crickets sour cream and onion powder kinda dissolves in the mouth and the crickets themselves have a kind of nutty flavor. pretty good
the chocolate is actually mint flavored a nice surprise and the insects inside provide a good crunch. and im saving the scorpion till later.

I thought you were going to tell us you had an insatiable appetite for Iranian food!

Spent the whole afternoon watching films.

Argo and Zero Dark Thirty.

Not sure what to watch tonight.

I was thinking Birdman. Emma Stone is pretty cute, and the premise sounds interesting.

Spent today watching Birdman and Interstellar.

Didn't care for Birdman's ambiguous ending. Found the rest of the movie pretty engaging though.

Interstellar was more interesting but didn't care much for it's themes of love.

Man, I've been watching a bunch of movies lately. But when I'm depressed I have to binge on something. Food/Alcohol/Film content. Lol.
