  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sometimes I make fun of movies with my brother. I saw "Rock your decision" where it preaches about how rock and roll will lead you to Satan, but don't worry hell apparently has a monopoly on rock and roll so you'll have some sweet tunes in hell.

Yeah, I like to watch stupid movies with my friends too.

Ever seen the movie The Brian That Wouldn't die?

His wife and him get into a vehicle wreck. His wife's body is horribly burned. So he takes her head and runs to his laboratory and puts her on life support. Then he prowls through town checking out the hot ladies and looking for the perfect body to use.

Great misogynistic fun.

I found out the other day that as a child I was actually tested for autism.

The results were inconclusive.

Wow, huh. Apparently as a baby I did not like to be held and would avoid making eye contact with people and had language problems.

I've pondered autism before, but never knew I was actually tested for it. Apparently they did extensive testing. They thought something was wrong with me put could never put their finger on it. Sigh.

Although I've always been extremely good at recognizing facial expressions. Higher than the average population, and way higher than the typical male. And I have a pretty good grasp on humor. If I do have it, it's extremely mild. Perhaps this could explain why I have trouble feeling connections with people and have difficulty with love.

Interesting. Apparently there was a lot of paper work done on me, when I get the chance I want to shift through the documents.

You might have aspergers, the mild side of autism. I consider it simply a normal, human variation. Some of the world's greatest genius were likely aspies.

Isn't aspergers the type with high language and vocabulary skills?

Admittedly my ability to write and describe things have always been awful. My writing can be pretty awkward. Which I have been working on fixing.

Many times words just seems to float around my mind in random order, and I'll mix match things all the time. Language seems to be fluid and ever changing for me. Probably the most frustrating part, lol.

I tested positive for autism even had to be part of what they call "The ASD room" in high school. least I never had to use a locker they had cubbies to store stuff in much more efficient.

Really?

All I remember is attending a lot of speech classes.

Since they couldn't draw a conclusion either way, I was never put into any autism programs.

Do you have trouble connecting with others? Do you have trouble with love?

Oh, you had to work at it?

I can feel empathy for people, but I always feel distant to them.

Since I can fully feel sympathy for people I always stick up for my friends if they're ever bullied but I just can't get close to them. So it's not really like I'm a monster.

I can do loyalty.

These past few years I've been able to make a little head way as far as love goes, but it's still extremely faint and very forced.

I wonder how many other autism people post here, lol. Me thinks forums probably attract such types. Lol.

I had to work really hard for conversations they were foreign for me. They have a momentum to them like a river it took most of my life to figure out how to enter that momentum. But in the ASD room I was always the best at that, and even the others I was with have greatly improved.

Hmm..

I never had that problem. I can understand the nuances of conversation. Did you have trouble with things like humor?

Humor is one of the few things I understood very well. My ability to make jokes helped me make friends despite my lack of carrying out other conversations.

Ah, that's good to hear.

I couldn't imagine life if I didn't understand humor.

Did/do you have trouble reading facial expressions?

Do you have aspie eyes? I wonder if I do. Some pictures I take I look like a corpse, and in others I look lively.

I do have trouble looking people in the eye when talking, I just don't like it. I hope I don't come across cold in that way.

It may be quite linked to some mutations in the MTHFR and perhaps COMT genes.

At least, there are autistic people who are no longer autistic, and all they did was add some appropriate supplements and tweak the diet to circumvent the mutations' effects in metabolism. Well, and limit contact with certain toxic metals.

Fascinating study, and really recent research work.

But yeah, those on the spectrum do seem to have an unusual ability to focus. I'm not sure it's a very smart thing that we should stamp that out. Rather, let people focus. It can produce some amazing results. Everyone doesn't need to fit the same mold.

Aspie eyes? Some describe them as eyes that look stoned/or dead. While sometimes people describe them as childlike and innocent.

I'm sorry to hear about the facial expression difficulties. Must be one reason why you may avoid eye contact. If the face looks blank, why look at it?

Which is strange for me, since I can pick up on facial expressions really well. Still I don't tend to like looking people in the eyes. It's just awkward. The exceptions being if it's a pretty girl or something unusual about the person, lol.

I have a friend with autism. He says he had to manually learn facial expressions and humor. He says hanging out with me is nice, since I tend to joke around a lot. He says that I really give him a good exercise for picking up subtle humor.
