  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The funny part of this is that it is just laying there 515ft long, metal detectors practically outlined the whole thing and we are saying - what shape? Can't be Noah's Ark ... some other man-made structure ... 515 ft long. :)

It is comical. :)

Let's run with that. Let's assume that their magic dowsing rods actually revealed timbers and metal as the video suggests. Let's assume that the lines they laid out in tape actually reflect the locations of support beams. Let's even assume that all of this stuff dated to 4000 years ago and somehow managed to survive the weather in some meaningful form. Let's assume that parallel lines on a rock really mean thatching was there are some point. Do we know any other wooden structures that people build that thy put thatching on? Maybe some kind of structure that we are all familiar with and something in which we are sitting as we type back and forth? Even if we accept every bogus claim they make in the video, they have done NOTHING to support their hypothesis that it's a seagoing mobile structure rather than a building.

What did you think of the video?

I think you owe me an hour of my life back.

EDIT: also, if a video is that long, it's completely reasonable to expect the OP to summarize it for the rest of the posters and for those posters to instead respond to the OPs summary. If the OP fails to summarize, it's reasonable for other posters to seak out alternate summaries to respond to.

But why would anyone want to build a 515 ft wooden boat outside of Noah's purpose?
Besides, the couplings (or whatever is holding joints together) were made of man-made metal.

Also, metals were found with metal detectors, not dowsing rods. They could not excavate the core of it because the Turkish government did not allow them to excavate.
So they marked each spot where the metal was found for every joint, ran lines - a boat under the ground.

Also, it is not a building because the above the ground outline is in the shape of the boat.
I mean it is huge.
That was why originally in 1959 people were thinking based on a location and it's shape and size that it was Noah's Ark.
Wyatt did not invent it.
He just went to Turkey to investigate. :)

It is a completely natural geologic feature.

Well, some people found it fascinating, some convincing and no one could disprove what was there.

Besides, Wyatt never discovered it nor invented it.
He just went to investigate the shape that others in 1959 thought resembled the huge boat.
Wyatt did not say that, others did.
He just went to investigate.

Fraudsters do not go to places where they could get arrested, (do get arrested), do not spend years and years coming back and working with the Turkish government for all types of permits and such.:)

And concerning your strong feelings about losing an hour (actually 45min) of your time - I do apologize.
But I am certain you have lost a lot more time in threads like these.

But it is not a completely natural geologic feature. :)

But the research done has shown this "feature" to be completely natural.

Abstract

A natural rock structure near Dogubayazit, Turkey, has been misidentified as Noah's Ark. Microscopic studies of a supposed iron bracket show that it is derived from weathered volcanic minerals. Supposed metal-braced walls are natural concentrations of limonite and magnetite in steeply inclined sedimentary layers in the limbs of a doubly plunging syncline. Supposed fossilized gopherwood bark is crinkled metamorphosed peridotite. Fossiliferous limestone, interpreted as cross cutting the syncline, preclude the structure from being Noah's Ark because these supposed "Flood" deposits are younger than the "Ark." Anchor stones at Kazan (Arzap) are derived from local andesite and not from Mesopotamia.

You've clearly already made up your mind (confirmation bias will do that to you).

I mean, if the presence of alloys that hadn't been formed yet in the time of Noah doesn't cause skepticism for you, I doubt anything will.

define "shape of a boat" is that just roughly kind of oval?

If intervention was need to hold the ark together, why bother with the ark at all? Was it just a make-work project for Noah?
In a sense, yes.

At times, God would ask a person of faith to do something that would seem strange or out of character as a display of their faith.

Building an Ark, marching around Jericho; these things served a dual purpose: that of warning observers of impending doom, and that of establishing a person as a "man of faith."

Hebrews 11 is full of such examples.

I don't know.
People in 1959 were identifying it as a shape of a boat.
And then after the earthquake the walls exposed and the shape became even more like that of a boat.
And the length was exactly 515 feet ...

Interesting point in there, Sayre, about the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

Split Rock and I once got into a conversation about my claim that the Garden of Eden was in [what is now] China.

The Tigris and Euphrates rivers came up as Biblical evidence that the Garden was in Mesopotamia, and I defended my position by saying that, in my opinion, the ones in Mesopotamia today are not the original ones.

My wife blistered me later for that, but I stuck to my guns. :)

He did, but I believe that one major benefit of these tests were: it gave that person a reputation; a legacy, so to say, and established that person (or persons) as a "man of faith."

It makes sense, but knowing what the results would be, isn't it possible that God would never give someone a test they wouldn't fail? Doesn't the Bible even say that somewhere? Argh... I am getting too theological and this is way offtopic, forget about it.

Here is a question related to the topic for you: do you think Noah's Ark was found?
