Can a non-Christian be saved without confessing the name of Christ?

Basically the OP is inspired by meeting various Muslims who are clearly aware of their sins and repentant of them , who are trusting in Gods mercy for their deliverance.

Well what does the NT say about how one is saved?
What name is the only name that can save?
In whom does one have to believe in order to be saved?
Who is it that indwells us assuring us of salvation?

Hello. :)

Without christ we would be 'ians'. Islam may be in peril as it openly rejects Jesus as Son of God.

Jesus is the truth, the light, and the way. No one can come to the Father but through Jesus. An antichrist rejects Jesus as Son of God.

God bless :)

Do you mean to say "non-Christian...without confessing the name of Christ" who, nevertheless, knows something about Christ and Christianity and the Gospel (as is the case with Moslems) OR do you mean the proverbial pagan who lives decently according to his culture's standards and has never even heard of Christ (which is why he could not be a believer)?

If it's the former group of people who have consciously rejected the Lord, I'd say the answer is "no."

A person could be saved in Muslim country by consciously trusting and Christ and rejecting Islam, but having to do so in secret out of fear of punishment or death. This is different though than Anonymous Christian belief in Vatican II Catholicism, which I would reject.

No... If one rejects the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ they will be judged for their sins.. Feeling guilty for ones sins helps us to accept the forgiveness on offer.. But if one rejects the offer of forgiveness then they will not have it..

The NT says and I wholeheartedly agree that there is no other name in heaven and earth by which a man can be saved than that of Jesus. That is not my question however. Can the substitutionary atonement that Jesus provided mankind on the cross be applied to those who accept the essence of what Jesus stands for without confessing his name. Afterall all OT believers from Enoch to Abraham to Elijah never confessed Christs name and yet each of these salvation is affirmed in scripture.

Look how weird the videos in YouTube can be:

There are aspects of Islam that cohere with Christianity. For instance God is acknowledged as Creator, Sovereign and the Judge. There are other aspects that are blasphemous lies such as regarding who Jesus was , whether he died on the cross and indeed how redemption works. But it is too simple and too convenient to dismiss all Muslims as worshipping Satan.

It all depends on how you understand Gods mercy and grace.
If you believe that one must confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord then those who do not know his name won't be saved.

If you believe that God will judge them depending on the knowledge that they do have then they could be saved.

The OT saionts are a special case as they trusted in God for salvation but had no knowledge of Jesus. There are very few people today who can claim to have no knowledge of Jesus.

Most Muslims I meet are not that well educated and many do not really even understand their own religion that well. They accept Jesus as a prophet and special but do not go further to see who he is. But in cultures where the very language they speak has been crafted over centuries to deny Christs divinity and his coming in the flesh what are they rejecting when they reject Jesus as Son of God. In a sense they are innoculated against the gospel much like Jews and trained from birth to resist the simplistic formulas by which most Christian evangelists offer the gospel to them. But am i really rejecting Christ if I stand before God repentant of all the bad things I know I have done, begging God to be merciful and trusting that God is good enough, wise enough and loving enough to find a way to save me. That in essence is what I see the most devout Muslims doing. I have seen Christians mouth the formulas for salvation but it is as if they are just going through the motions and the deepest realities of their lives have not changed. Who is begging Christ to save them - the one who says he will work in his fathers vineyard but does not or the one who says he will not but does?

Those who consciously reject Christ and who He is cannot be saved. But those who merely mouth the Muslim formulas while zealously seeking God and earnestly begging him to be merciful to them are the ones that raise questions in me. In essence Christ came to bring mercy. If a man seeks God for His mercy then it only comes through Christ. But does he have to consciously subscribe to the Christian salvation formulas to be saved?

Hard to know with absolute certainty, but the Bible does seem to say that accepting Christ (as opposed to doing good, keeping the Commandments, going to church, etc.) is essential to salvation. It might be that God has plans for such people that we're not privvy to, but IMHO we are not at liberty to conclude that he does.

Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
1 John 2:23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.

This is a clear warning there is only one path to the Father. If this is not who they are trusting in, then they are still in their sins.

Hello and thank you for the reply.

Please excuse me i may have been rather general and too blunt.

Not all muslims are uneducated or ignorant. There are ones who understand their religion very well, some know bible scripture better than some christians.

To sum up what paul has said, those who have never been offered Jesus or are completely ignorant to Jesus are judged by their own conscience - possible explanation - what morality they know.

Those who know of Jesus and reject Him are at peril. Accepting Christ as a prophet does not go far enough and any devout muslim has read the quran.

The quran denies the crucifixion

they did not slay him, neither crucified him, only a likeness of that was shown to them" (Qur'an 4:156).

The quran rejects the deity of Christ and the Trinity.

O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) an apostle of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His apostles. Say not "Trinity" : desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah. Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs." (Koran, Surah 4:171

A devout muslim appears to be instructed in the quran to deny Christ. Christians are people of the Book.

If a muslim - by definition - somone who submits to allah, does not understand his own religion than i may ask, why is he muslim? Christianity is spread throughout the known world and is known in all muslim countries.

But am i really rejecting Christ if I stand before God repentant of all the bad things I know I have done, begging God to be merciful and trusting that God is good enough, wise enough and loving enough to find a way to save me. That in essence is what I see the most devout Muslims doing.

If someone is truely ignorant to Jesus and does not understand what he has rejected, then that is between him and God and he will have to explain him self. He will be judged regardless. God will make His own decision but personally it is better to do things the right way ie through Jesus by the Spirit.

Another question arises, is allah in the quran the same as the Christian God?

We are saved by grace and not works. Want to know more ask. :). Judgement day is like noahs ark. Once the doors are shut the offer is over.

Who is begging Christ to save them - the one who says he will work in his fathers vineyard but does not or the one who says he will not but does?

Please watch out, it is unfair to judge another christians relationship with God. The one who will be saved is the one who hears the words of Jesus and does them.

God bless you

Are they confessing Jesus the Christ, the only begotten Son of the living God, in their heart?

The biggest problem with confessing the name of Christ is that people assume that Yeshua is a carbon copy of the messenger. They assume he is selfish and harsh. Condemning and confusing. And then we want others to join up and be like that.
Try and look at it from the other persons perspective. They can't see Yeshua. All they can see is us. The messenger. Then they look at the messenger and think, "well, that person is no better than me, they just cling to some invisible person to make them feel better about themselves and I don't need that".
You would be hard pressed to find people who have never heard the gospel. Especially in the civilized parts of the world.
So I guess it would be better to not speak the name of Yeshua but to treat others according to his character than it would be to keep pushing it and acting like a jerk.

Yes that is the point, if 90% of the message is the messenger then maybe people do not always communicate the gospel as it is in Jesus.

It depends on what saved means. I think sins can be forgiven, but the eternal life is for righteous. Forgiveness is not useful, if person is not righteous, or doesn’t become righteous.

These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
Mat. 25:46

I have understood righteousness is like right understanding and attitude, which makes person do right actions. Difficult to see how person could be righteous, but not confess that Jesus is the king of Jews (=Messias, Christ).

Yes the Quran has a false view of Jesus. No the Muslim view of God is not the same as the Christian view. Trinity and Incarnation and Redemption ( Crucifixion and resurrection) are all missing.

It is one thing to have an intellectual understanding of a religion and another to come to a personal understanding of how God is known and who exactly he is. I wonder how many Muslims have had an encounter with Christ in such a way that a real choice was possible.

On the road to Emmaus the travelers spoke of Jesus as a prophet. Jesus showed them how he was so much more than that by working through the scriptures that anticipated him with them. But this kind of dialog is mainly missing in Western intellectual circles today.
