"goodbye" is from the Old English way of saying "God be with you". So "Goodbye" is certainly very appropriate thing to say. The Romance languages have their counterparts in the way they say "goodbye". Adios, Adieu, Adio, all mean "To God" and "Vaya con Dios" means, "God go with you."

I never thought of that - but that's actually very cool!

I tend to avoid analyzing all this to keep myself from mixing up my past Evangelical beliefs with Orthodox theology. It's all too easy to do, even after 8 years.

Knowing the viewpoint on the Orthodox theology regarding the afterlife is something I try to learn (though not focus too much on it) but the end times...I know I need to be prepared at all times - and I honestly have too much I need to work on spiritually to figure out the details of when the end times will happen. Interesting topic to read about though!
