Am I the only one who feels like the relationship between Steve and DJ is tainted?

I've been wanting to rant about this for a long time.
To preface: I really enjoy Fuller House. I think it's fantastic.
But with the original writers back on, one thing they wanted to correct was the Steve and DJ breakup in Full House. Ok.
I'm fine with that. I loved their relationship in the original series.
But what I can't stand is that she got involved with Matt and had to break his heart first.
Matt is a great character, and she clearly had chemistry with him.
Not to mention he was great with the boys.
And she went and broke his heart, all because she had history with Steve.
It blows my mind how selfish this all is.
If the writers wanted to get Steve and DJ back together, fine, but don't get Matt involved and make this complicated mess.
I have a hard time watching Steve and DJ now because of this.
Is anyone else annoyed by this?

Coming in late but what about CJ, I felt even worse for her.....
....although lol, it's a sitcom.
