  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

But I find it hard to believe that the problem is as extensive as they say it is.
It is dreadnaught.
I used to be catholic and I know catholic priests here personally, I'm very sorry about this. It's worse than I even thought.
Instead of removing priests from the priesthood, they would just get sent to a different parish.
I mean, think of what the priesthood represents...it's MORE than what a pastor represents in the Protestant faith. A Bishop laid hands on him like Jesus did to the Apostles. It's very bad. A priest should be above reproach.

I agree. What is that saying?:
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

About Jephthah, I was taught that the Israelites did not permit human sacrifice and that because of this they were more advanced that they're counter parts of that time.
Leviticus 18:21 speaks to this. I'm going to have to read up on this. I haven't concentrated on the O.T. in many years, being the necessity of knowing the N.T. and I'm no scholar!
(necessity because I taught our faith to kids).
Moses never taught human sacrifice, but the plan of Baalim was to get them to intermarry with the Canaanites so their pagan influence would corrupt their Mosaic teachings. It worked.

There aren't enough good priests to go around. That's one reason they should let women be priests.

Yes, I do know about the inter-marrying, which is also why the Semaritans were so disliked; they had intermarried during their exile.

I will read about this and study up on it a little, but it seems like one of those studies that will make my mind get fuzzy....
I remember once I was reading maybe Leviticus and it said not to boil the kids. At first moment I thought it meant a child...
Happily, I realized it meant the animal. Will this turn out to be the same??

I doubt the CC will ever do that. Did you know that woman can't teach men? Only men could have "real" bible studies. I used to do the book of Mathew in my home but it was "us girls" and the priest knew about it and he was OK with it.

How about allowing catholic priests to get married? It would abolish the difficult decision of having to decide between having a wife and family OR being a priest. The Early Church Fathers (or theologians) did not believe in the celibacy of priests...a pope came up with this idea. Long ago, can't remember the history.

Only a small percentage of Muslims are terrorists, so we shouldn't see Islam as evil.

Only a smaller percentage of Catholics abuse children, but we should see the Catholic Church as evil?
Right. Compared to Islamic jihadi terrorists, Catholicism doesn't look half bad. lol
Unless we are talking about the Crusades. Then all bets are off.

Not funny.
How does one make jokes about this?
Oh dear, my emotional womanhood must be getting in the way of my ability to think straight.

What's getting in Your way?

We expect evil to flow from false religions, because the people following these religions are deceived. How can one say Islam is not evil when it leads people away from the truth? Doesn't mean all the people being decieved become evil. But, we do not expect evil to flow from a religion that claims Christ as it's King. They have to be held to a higher standard.

Only a small percentage of Germans were NAZI’s. Should anyone have feared Germany? Plus there may only be a small percentage that are actual terrorists. But a very large percentage believe in the involuntary subjugation of mankind to Islam and are willing to war to accomplish that.
Have you read the Koran by the way? Mohamed personally was EVERYTHING ISIS is and more. Should we fear an Islam who’s prime example is its founder?

More than a pastor represents in the Protestant faith? That's a prejudicial comment.

1Pe_2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
There is no need for a priesthood when all believers are a royal priesthood.

I remember once I was reading maybe Leviticus and it said not to boil the kids.
Personally I think it was an idiom, not a commandment.

Exo_23:19 The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

The context is bringing the firstfruits to the Temple to thank the Lord for the beginning of the harvest. What does seething a kin in his mother's milk have to do with first fruits? Thinking through literally what it means is that the offspring (kid) is being killed by the source of its life (the mother's milk). I think it is similar to the expression, Don't cut your nose off to spite your face. In other words I see it as a warning from God to Israel to not forget that He is the source of their harvest.

Great post!
Of course it's an idiom...how would one get so much mother's milk???
Great conclusion and reasoning. I see Your mind doesn't get fuzzy!

If it wasn't for the crusades, much more of the world would be speaking Arabic.
For that we are eternally grateful. Not that there is anything wrong with Arabic.

Interesting.
It's supposed to make themcevoted to God by not having family problems.
But some became priests as a job.
Sorry, can't write too much on here.
