  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The difference is that the terrorists (I would argue) are following the mandate of their religion (to establish Islam with violent means) while those priests and pastors (of any clergy) are violating Christ's words when it comes to harming children.

Islam is evil intrinsically. Certain Catholic priests are evil and go against their confession and purpose.

To be fair, the religion has some good features too - fidelity, honour etc. But all false religions are ultimately of great evil, as they lead to hell.

I do agree that Islam is very evil when it comes to treatment of women and promotion of terrorism.

Only a smaller percentage of Catholics abuse children, but we should see the Catholic Church as evil?
But if the children did not have a way of communicating with their parents to get the parents to rescue them, why????

Why have parents not brought up their children so their children can seek and get effective rescue by their own moms and dads? Why haven't the parents been prepared to find out quickly about such an atrocity and stop it immediately when their children let them know, or they see the signs in changes of the child's behavior?????

Have not the parents somehow let themselves become shut off from their own children so this can happen? Jesus' sheep are not fooled into trusting a wolf pretending to be a shepherd. So, why have so many parents failed to be able to sniff out a predator, plus they have not been able to have communication with their own children??

I consider that the abuse is the tip of an iceberg supported by a giant mass of neglect. If we neglect to submit to God, we will not have the ability to take care of ourselves and others the right way, plus if we neglect to submit to God we will not have the emotional strength to keep from suffering when evil people are cruel to us.

It appears there is a culture of expecting victims to suffer for the rest of their lives. This is negligent, because Jesus can make us strong with forgiveness plus strength of His love with almighty power of His peace to keep our hearts and minds from ongoing suffering and ongoing self-medicating with substances and pleasures to try to feel better. Such negligence has many ready to keep expecting victims to suffer and need endless support. This is waiting lower in the dark of the iceberg, to ensure that victims keep on suffering instead of getting with Jesus.

And this sort of negligence is lurking to help keep victims suffering after they have been hurt in other ways, not only by abuse by clerics in the Roman Catholic culture. But it is quite kosher for negligent parents to keep pointing at the ones at the tip of the iceberg which they have supported by being negligent.

The Bible is full of things to help us so we do not help with this negligence.

It was easy, when I was young, fr me to instruct other folks that were sometimes older than myself, on their errors in raising their children, children I had no vested interest in and I recall that I was foolish and often spouted off, shoving the foot in my mouth down my throat. This begs me to ask, not for an answer that will lead to embarrassment for either one of us but that you might consider Prayer, scripture reading at the feet of Jesus and meditation on this matter.

I understand what you say, here, I offer. It is meant only for anyone to whom it applies. And it applies to me; so I am sharing what goes for me, at least.

Only a small percentage of Muslims are terrorists, so we shouldn't see Islam as evil.

Only a smaller percentage of Catholics abuse children, but we should see the Catholic Church as evil?
We should see the specific bishops and priests as evil, just as we see the specific terrorists as evil. Why doesn't the pope do this? And why don't the bishops do this? Are they evil too?

This is a terrible argument in support of the purity of the Catholic Church, that not every bishop or priest is evil.

We've been waiting for the Catholic Church to purge this evil from itself. We're still waiting ...
Casually waiting, or praying for us? This kind of thing cannot be expelled without prayer and fasting.
