Who cares about any heavenly rewards. An afterlife is good enough for me, nonexistence is terrifying.

The issue is that we can prove that hell is not a physical place within the earth (I suppose if you want to get all supernatural about it, you could say it occupies the same space on another physical plane) and therefore someone LIVING could never get there.

That still assumes that if that physical impossibility (for now) were ignored, that it is a physical distance away a person could, theoretically, travel, which has been proven 100% incorrect.

We don't have to dig deep enough to "see" into the earth. We can do that with seismic waves. We know what's in there, and there is no hell there. None whatsoever. You do really understand this, don't you?

Well, what other option does a person in her position really have? I mean, when reality contradicts your beliefs, you can either 1) Change your beliefs accordingly, or 2) Ignore reality (evidence). So, really, I can hardly blame her, I suppose. But.. sheesh!

How often do you see a believer choose option 1 on these boards?

It just doesn't happen, but you do see cognitive dissonance which then leads to option 2.

On their own time and in their own place, they may eventually choose option 1, depending on if there psyche allows reality to trump a current belief.

Don't forget about lurkers. And further, even if not on these boards, people change their minds in light of evidence all the time. I did. Granted, I wasn't a Christian when I first started posting here, but I once was.
