I'm closing in on 73.
I replaced the toilet seat with a self lowering function. No more bending over. Just give it a smack and it closes very gently in about 10-15 seconds.

What do people do in retirement homes?
Socialise more. Where we are going is a village, like retirement homes are generally in Australia. People have to queue to get a unit where we will be. Wait time is around 7 years, depending on the unit.

There are a number of facilities. A Chapel, craft room, bowling green, croquet, table tennis, snooker, hobby workshop and even garden plots for growing vegetables.

The village was built originally by a Baptist church (I happened to be a member when it was started). It is now owned by the Baptist Union and maintains Christian values. No one has to be Christian to move there but it is clear that it is Christian based.

Some retirement villages revolve around a golf course, others include a bar and more secular pursuits. Each to his own.

I’m giving up: ‘I can’t’, I’m fearful’. Much to live for, my life is fine as it is. 71, not ready to quit - nothing personal.
im hard to get to know but pleasant company to my wife. Giving up on intimacy for the masses of strangers, but will keep trying to be a friend, however misguided. Not ready to give up my hobby. Giving up bread and potatoes presently. What an amazing evening. 75 degrees today.

"I can't" is one of the easiest things to say and one of the hardest things to overcome. If we look back on our lives we'll all see those times when we decided "I can't". Wouldn't it be nice to go back and redo some of those times... As for fear, it's difficult not to be afraid sometimes, but most times what we think we're afraid of doesn't exist or never happens. ;) We just need to remember God is with us at all times.

Friendship is good, hobbies are good. I could give up potatoes but not sure about bread. I do bake most of our bread. Guess that's a hobby!

I've been collecting more ideas for handmade cards and can't wait till payday. Sometimes I have trouble thinking of words to use so I bought some rubber stamps with greetings or Bible verses.

Wonderful post!

Potatoes have always been a favorite of mine, but I gave them up a while back because they are in the nightshade family and cause joint inflammation. I also take krill oil.

I didn't know that about potatoes. They're one of the foods I can take or leave. I do like them baked or lightly fried with onions. But if I don't have them on hand I don't think about them.

I'm giving up liquid coffee creamers. I love the Hershey's chocolate one from International Delight and the Snickers flavor from Coffee Mate. Right now all I have is about 1/4 of a container of Cinnebon flavor. When that's gone it's all out of my life forever. :( I've been seeing and reading a lot of info about sugar, especially added sugar, being at the root of most of the illnesses in the world. So, slowly giving up sugar as much as possible, starting with the creamers. I don't put sugar in my bread anymore when I bake. Also switching from buying canned soup, like Progresso, to making my own. I looked at the label of a can of Progresso (and I only buy it when it's bargain basement on sale) and it had added sugar. In soup?!

My husband takes fish oil. I just take a multi and a D3.

I can't tolerate fish oil; I discovered I can take Krill oil. Yes I take D3 and a multi also. :) I never read the label on Ptogresso! Thank you for the info.

Salt too, a lot of salt in canned soup.
Absolutely. And in many other canned and frozen foods, too. The good thing about homemade soup is that you can use remnants of fresh veggies, etc. and not let them go to waste. Just chop, throw in the slow cooker with broth, or water and bouillon, maybe some pasta or rice, and you have soup. Food doesn't need added salt or sugar.

Guess I'm starting a little late in life to make dietary changes, but better late than never. ;)

I seldom buy canned soup except as emergency food. But since I no longer cook from scratch, I can't remove the salt from my food.
Most soups I wouldn't buy. I eat what I do buy for lunch on occasion or, like you, for an emergency when I don't have time for anything else.

My wife makes some great tomato soup. Bakes a bunch of veges and some seasoning. Then grinds it in the bullet adds a little cream cause it’s keto. A really good thick soup. Only a little salt. When she’s cooking I’m eating. Where she gets the energy I don’t know. But she’s a never say never kinda girl. We all have our can’t s, don’t want tos, or no time, but when serving the Lord it should always be yes lord,. Even as older we can still be instrumental in getting our families or neighbors saved. I’m from a church where we say it’s one of our main purposes in life.

My only emergencies are if I ran out of delivered groceries. All my microwave meals are a maximum of 6 minutes. The microwave has saved me lots of money on pots and pans and not having a kitchen fire.
