"There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven."
"There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea."

"When these things begin to happen, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."
Verses found in Luke 21

Exactly my point. These are only affecting a few places in the US. The whole world isnt in anguish over this.

I dont see most of these events as being even close to what the Bible was refering to.

Yeah, that's a cool map! Lots of earthquakes around the world! A tornado in Ireland? Is that unusual?

These arent the signs the Bible spoke of. Look at their listed "emergencies":

Flood in Uraguay - deaths = 2
Flood in Afghan - deaths = 12
Tornado in Kansas - deaths = 10
Flood in Sri Lanka - deaths = 15
Irish Tornado - 1 person affected.

What youre saying is that every little event on the planet is a sign of the times. I'm not trying to take away from what those affected are going through, I'm just saying these are not of biblical proportions and are not "signs of the times".

Not even significant. Believe it or not earthquakes happen every day. They are not the earthquakes the Bible is refering to.

So if not earthquakes and 'roaring and tossing of the sea' along with pestilences, what are you on the lookout for in this regard? I wonder what "fearful events" Jesus was talking about? A rash of tornados is a pretty fearful event!
Hurricanes and typhoons make the sea roar and toss. Once they hit land, they spawn tornados.
Do you really think we're grasping at straws here or noticing things are happening as predicted.
There's not just weather events...there's cultural signs too mentioned in 2 Timothy:
2Ti 3:1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.
2Ti 3:2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self‑control, brutal, not lovers of the good,
2Ti 3:4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God–
2Ti 3:5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
2Ti 3:6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak‑willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires,
2Ti 3:7 always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.

You are looking at this from just "today".....I have been watching this site for a few months now....and there are more things that have happened in just the last week that aren't reflected here. I've been keeping a log of them.

05/03/07 - Bangladesh 70,000 chickens destroyed because they were determined to be infected with bird flu.

05/03/07 - India... outbreak of malaria

05/03/07 Floods in Columbia.....Syria....Turkey

05/03/07 Peru .... overpopulation of bats...some suspected to carry rabies

05/02/07 - Hungary frost.....almost full destruction of apricot growth and affecting all other fruit crops there

05/01/07 - Heat Wave in India

04/17/07 - Fiji outbreak of typhoid fever ... 100 cases....thousands at risk

I am not saying it is pointing to the END of the world....I am saying.....these are the birth pains.....

WATCHMEN STAY ALERT

Grasping at straws. I think what Jesus was talking about will be clearly identifiable. These events while terrible to those affected, are not on a mass scale. They are very localized.

I agree, but I'm going to just suggest that all of could be much worse. I think, that maybe (and maybe I'm thinking wrong), all of this could apply to humanity at any time after Christ's return to heaven. To say this list in 2 Tim. applies to today's people may be a little premature.

Maybe you're right...maybe it's going to get a whole lot worse...but remember the birth pains analogy that Jesus used. Think frequency and intensity.

A lot of things that are happening are reported as "the worst tornado since..." or the "worst hurricane since..." or "the worst tsunami since..." or the "the worst earthquake disaster since..."

This is happening in conjuction with all those things listed in 2 Timothy which, in my own mind, makes it significant.

He also said when these things BEGIN to happen, to stand up and look because our redemption is drawing near.

The wrath of God starts after the great tribulation against the church and the tribes.
See the end of the 6th seal -as the trib is over before the wicked hide in the rocks.
Tell me more...do you think we've been in the trib since ??? ....since Jerusalem fell? Since WW1?? or is it yet to come?

Revelation 6 and Zachariah 6 go hand in hand, it seems...

red horse = war on earth, no peace
white horse= Christ victorious- went West (Christianity is Western).
black horse= famine/expensive food (oil and wine ok) - went North (Russia/China?)
pale/dappled horse = forth of earth killed by sword, famine, plague, and wild beasts of the earth - went South (Africa - with wars, famine, plague, HIV?)

& Martyrdom has happened since Stephen up until this very day!

If this is accurate and represents the tribulation, we've been experiencing it since Christ overcame on the cross!

So what does this have to do with the end times?
Bad weather is one of the zillions of Signs of the End. So is heavy traffic, toenail fungus, drought, flooding, cold winters, warm winters, bird migration, mosquitoes, race riots, NASCAR racing, nuclear wars or the lack thereof, and just about anything else you can think of.

For the same reason we pick December 31st as the end date for the Gregorian calendar. The Mayans had many calendars, some shorter than ours, some longer; the one ending in 2012 just happens to be their longest
The Mayans had a very good reason for picking 2012. It is the end of the galactic cycle. we will cross to the other side of the galaxy on 2012.
