Im fine with critiquing the policies of other countries just as Im fine with people from abroad pointing out how absurd America can be.

Of course Im content to leave UK policy making to UKsians. I dont expect to have any actually say in it.
I just can't be bothered to learn about the issues...even American politics tend to leave me disinterested because they rarely intrude on my little life. Now my local school board, council, and county government...there's the ticket.

Theres a lot of national issues that affect my life, or others I care about, even day to day. So I definitely pay attention.

Fair enough, I've found that no matter who is in office in national politics my life basically goes on as normal. There may be issues I'm missing, perhaps my tax burden shifts or similar, but by and large my life is too small to be effected by issues of national importance.

I think a lot of the societal gripes and conflicts that occur are precisely the result of people not paying close enough attention to state & federal politics.

I consider "30% of my income getting taken" as more than just a minor intrusion, especially when that money will be used to dictate policy that the local and county government will have no choice but to follow.

If you look at any of the hot button issues out there today (whether it be guns, abortion, school curriculum accreditation, etc...), those are almost all going to come from the state and/or federal level and your mayor or city council will have little to no say in those matters.

Perhaps, though it seems to me people care far too much about national politics especially the presidency and far too little about downballot races. Far easier to hold politicians drawing from a smaller pool accountable, and I'm not just talking about local.

Death and taxes. Comparitively speaking, US taxes are quite low.

Most of those don't have a whole lot of effect on my life, so I don't get worked up about them. And the ones that do like curriculum generally aren't all that inflexible and aren't usually directly affected by voting since the officials who decide such things are generally appointments rather than voted into office. Part of my disinterest is I live in a state where I am grossly outnumbered and caring about state and national politics would simply be angering with little real possibility of change. So I focus on where my voice actually makes a difference, and pray that the rest doesn't get too mangled.

Waters [also gave] kudos to Bob Vylan, who led the Glastonbury Festival crowd in a chant, shouting, "Death, death to the IDF."

Bob Vylan album re-enters charts following Glastonbury controversy

With their 2024 album Humble As The Sun having reappeared at the top spot of the UK hip-hop and R&B charts, as well as at number seven in the Official Charts and eight in the independent charts, the band struck a triumphant tone.

They posted on X: “Ban Bob Vylan? The people said ‘Nah’. We need artists that speak up.

...But it didn't used to be!

I'd be more okay if Waters was just an anti-Semite. But when he became a Pro-Palestinian too, he started to seem more like a bandwagon sellout.

What if he were Pro-Palestinian, but not an anti-Semite? Would that be better or worse than "just anti-Semitic" or "both"?

Former Pink Floyd songwriter Roger Waters could face prosecution after declaring his support for Palestine Action, a terrorist organization that has been banned by Parliament in the U.K.

Waters posted a video to X on Saturday, in which the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame inductee praised Palestine Action as a "great organization," while also giving kudos to Bob Vylan, who led the Glastonbury Festival crowd in a chant, shouting, "Death, death to the IDF."

Waters said in his video that he was in his studio and was working on a piece of brown cardboard with a Sharpie.

He then switched the camera from his face to the cardboard.

I don't think there's an authoritarian left-wing or anti-western regime he won't shill for, so I'm not exactly surprised.

The UK is dead.
Looks outside to see a peaceful warm summers day with the sounds of birds and insects busy about their duties. I can hear kids playing across the way the sounds of DIY for over the old wall.

UK is great

It's only warm where you are? Where I am (suburban heat trap) it's hot enough for me to lurk in the supermarket fridge aisles for a bit when I go shopping this afternoon.

It's 26c here in Merseyside. But I live right next door to a wood and meadow. It's also really flats so it mostly makes a nice breeze, mostly. No tall buildings or too much concrete helps too.

Edit: just seen you live in Oxford. That's where I was born. I grew up in a village near Didcot.
