Would republicans use Trump to win the White House with plans to impeach and remove him?

I'm interested in hearing what thoughts are on this topic. I have been wondering if politicians would do something that underhanded. It would seemingly alienate Trump voters, yet I wouldn't dismiss the possibility. Anything seems game for politicians to attain or retain power. I have been watching Haley angling for the #2 spot in republican primary polls. Either she legitimately wants to be Trump's VP nominee or else she might have an ulterior motive. She may honestly believe a Trump conviction would knock him out of the running. The entire republican coalition seems so disorganized it's hard to figure out. Anyone have any thoughts regarding the question posed in the thread title?

They might be that stupid. One would hope they knew enough history to realize that when similar things have been tried elsewhere the results have often been disastrous.

Do note it takes 2/3rds to convict and that aside from Trump no member of a president's party has ever voted to impeach him.

I think it is high. Trump can't help but push the boundaries. The question is, if he is elected, would the impeachment come before he becomes President-for-life.

I understand it takes 2/3 of our senate vote to remove a president. Yet seven Republicans voted for his removal once. America hasn't seen a CIC of Mr Trump's destructive caliber in quite some time either. Norms and precedent seemed to fly out the window when Donald assumed office. Equal branches of government acted like subordinates for Donald when they were not. No president's party has ever enabled such divisive, unlawful chaos from their leader before in my 55 years either.

I don't believe I am able to flatly say "No, republicans would not be that underhanded to sabotage their nominee". Curmudgeons like McConnell seem to have had enough of Mr Trump. And the older members of congress might try to redeem themselves for enabling Trump by taking him down before they retire soon. I recall several retiring politicians finally give us a glimpse into their true feelings about Donald Trump. Their consciences magically reappear once voters don't determine their future.

I concur. And I'm not even basing it on the contingency of democrats winning the house or senate. The man will not be president for life, tho I'm sure it's his aspiration.

Oh, he's certaily capable of declaring a national emergency and suspending the Constitution. He'll appoint his loyalist in key postions at DOJ, the Pentagon, etc

This whole "Trump is a dictator, he's trying to become president for life" is so overplayed and untrue. Can we have a serious discussion about Trump here without devolving into a fantasy? It would be a literal impossibility.

As for the answer to the question, I don't think the Republican party would turn their backs on Trump voters just like that. They make up most of the party and good luck getting them back during midterms and 2028 if you take away the guy they voted for.

No, the large majority of Republicans wouldn't want to do anything to alienate Trump's base. If they move against Trump, Trump and his cohorts will retaliate big time. So they won't have plans to impeach and remove him. They'll be able to forgive a great deal of misconduct on Trump's part.

Having said that, I wouldn't put it past Trump to do something so mind-bogglingly demented that the House Republicans feel forced to impeach him. It would have to be something really amazingly bad, but this is not beyond Trump's capabilities.

Was talking to a fellow veteran who's hoping Kennedy gets elected. Now, I'd actually vote for Kennedy and I'm not even a Democrat! But I highly doubt he'd get the nomination; because he'd blow the whole Covid sham out of the water.

Now wouldn't a Kennedy / Trump (or Trump / Kennedy) ticket be a hoot!

Both.... I mean the uni-party is such a mess. I wonder if we'll survive the 2024 election regardless of who gets .... the votes stolen from them!

Republicans seemed to elevate Desantis as their best chance to elude another Trump debacle at the ballot box. Ron's odds have since dropped a bit. Now Ms Haley seems to be rising some in the polls. Yet it is doubtful she can beat Mr Trump sans conviction on any of his many indictments. And it seems fairly obvious republican voters aren't ready to vote for a female president. A felon yes, but a woman no lol.

But Trump might feel Nikki Haley would be a good running mate, especially if she grabs second place from Desantis. If power is their sole motivation, it would give republicans an opportunity to claim the honor of being the party that gave America its first female president by removing Donald, providing he actually wins.

I've been sensing something in the air lately and can't put a finger on it. I'm not asking if people agree with my speculations, just the title question. I have a feeling something unforseen is afoot. Maybe it will be my original idea that this could be the election that makes a third party run at the White House.

Trump staged a coup in order to stay in power. Any talk of Trump trying to become a dictator in America is justified.

The fantasy is in denying what Trump actually tried to do and what he wants to do. Trump tells us what he wants to do.
