So when people "go to heaven" does that mean they become as thin air?

"The dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it."
- Ecclesiastes 12:7
When we are "absent from the body," we are "at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8).
"If He should set His heart to it and gather to Himself His Spirit and His Breath, all flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust."
- Job 34:14-15
Our life is in His breath, and our flesh is animated by His Spirit.
"In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men."
- John 1:4
We do not become "thin air," but do return to our eternal home (Psalm 90:1) from which we originated.

Just curious.
well no ... what happens is what happened with Jesus .... not some "spirit" that has no form or substance ..... we'll be given incorruptible bodies .... you will still be you less sin and corruption. This happens at the 1st resurrection (when Jesus returns) and not before.

Thin air is still physical. St. Paul simply speaks of being present with the Lord and absent from the body. But as others have already noted, at the resurrection our bodies are transformed, made new, glorified.

We simply don't have the language to describe or any comprehension of what existence apart from the body is like. Which is why it's perhaps best to simply stick with what Paul says: present with the Lord.

What do you mean by "go to heaven"?
Are you talking about the rapture in Matt 24 and 1 Thess 4:13-18??

People have physical bodies in the rapture as we see in 1 Cor 15.

But if you are talking about Eccl 12:6 Remember your Creator before the silver cord is broken and the golden bowl is crushed, the pitcher by the spring is shattered and the wheel at the cistern is crushed; 7 then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Then "no" there are no "puffs of air" shooting out of our atmosphere and going to heaven when someone dies.

People say it as a figure of speech.

Based on word usage patterns in sentences, it means when you die, you go to God.
