I'm a hypochondriac and worry about getting various diseases and sickness.

I'm using an inhaler for my asthma, but didn't read the instructions until after taking it, and I'm afraid of one of the potential side effects.

I know I'm probably fine since this is the first time I've used it, but I still worry. I know it seems silly.

Please pray that I will be okay and that I'll get over my worry. Thanks!

I think you need grounding in Christ.

For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah, set to Alamoth. A Song.

God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah.
— Psalm 46:1-3

I'm a lifelong asthmatic. And also a fellow health anxiety sufferer.

Inhalers are generally designed to be used "as needed", meaning you can bump up the frequency of use if you're experiencing worse symptoms. So try not to worry about side effects :) Most inhaler medications are designed to be perfectly safe, even with some extra dosing if it's needed.

A good rule of thumb is "never google anything medical" lol. Everything will be "this might be cancer" or other terrifying nonsense. Even something as menial as "can I take two Claritin if my allergies are really bad?" will result in a lot of "NO, THAT'S OVERDOSING, YOU COULD DIE" type responses. Honestly, if a medication is *that* deadly, it's not going to be over the counter, lol.

The worst side effect for me is that the medication tends to temporarily increase my blood pressure, which makes it hard to sleep if I use it at night. Otherwise, I've never had any problems from many, many years of using various inhalers :)

I hope you were able to get through the night without feeling too anxious.

Not silly. I've often had a bit of an adverse reaction to new medication because my system wasn't used to it. Inhalers, especially new ones that your system isn't used to, can increase your pulse rate some. Increased pulse rate can trigger anxiety/panic.
