The stopping of the sun was from the vantage point of Earth dwellers.

Also, that and the Creation were miraculous events. We don't get truth about the nature of our natural world from miracles ...
It’s INSPIRED writing. If it says the sun stopped, it stopped or God lied to the people he inspired to write this scripture.

God also said that He was a vine. Either God was lying to His listeners ... or its reasonable that He used language (i.e. from particular vantage points ... as well as metaphorically) ... just like we do ...

The SUN was made to stop and even go backwards. It also was made after the Earth on day 4. Heliocentricism DOES contradict scripture.

This argument makes no sense. A miracle, by definition, overrules the normal laws of physics.

You might as well claim that since Jesus rose Lazarus from the dead, that means that human beings never actually die and all of the claims that they do are just part of a big conspiracy.

Figure or speech. That’s not even on the same “page” as a description of a miraculous event.

To make the sun go backwards? Yes, that’s awesome. However, Heliocentricists would have to assume that it was the Earth which STOPPED spinning and then spun backwards, STOPPED again, and spun the other way.

However, on a magnetic model of Earth, this event becomes far more understandable but still awesome, considering the size of the field.

I cannot but be constantly surprised by Christians.

I disagree with Strathos, fundamentally. But he's sincere.
He has faith. He accepts that some things are divine miracles. They are miraculous.

Then there are those who believe in a God who musn't act in a way they thenselves cannot understand. And if that means going against everything that has ever been known or learned or believed... that this everything must be wrong, so that their God can remain in their tiny little box that they have made up for him.

I do not believe in deities. I would never claim to understand why people really believe in deities.
But it never ceases to amaze me what kind of warped views some people have about the deities they claim to worship.

If one arrives at their beliefs without evidence or logic then no amount of evidence or logic will ever be enough to change their beliefs.

ver, on a magnetic model of Earth, this event becomes far more understandable but still awesome, considering the size of the field.

Can you give me a source on this "magnetic model" because, even though I have been a scientist for over 50 years, I have never heard of this.

AE model with a toroidal field of what we call aether. The sun and moon are suspended in this. It’s NOT a scientific model, for the record.

Well, that was far from edifying. I don't suppose it would help to point out that the aether theory was disproven over a century ago.

God could make the sun shrink down and fly into the palm of your hand, without burning it, then fly back up into the sky like nothing had ever happened. You act like the things God does are limited by the way the laws of nature work (which makes no sense as He created those laws of nature in the first place).

You better go back to the science, the Bible is not a source to prove sciences globe.

Agreed.

But to me, as a believer, I think FEers have limited the Creator to constructing a giant sand table, placing a dome over it, and populating it with little all kinds of little things to have fun with.
This is not the Creator I believe in, especially when I contemplate the utter vastness, complexity, and character of the universe.

Oh, I can see the Flat Earther's reason behind this idea. Why would a creator make a whole universe of utter vastness and complexity... and then care predominantly about a single speck of dust of it where some carbon-based lifeforms cling to the thin outer crust?

There is something threatening about the utter vastness of the universe, and something cozy and comforting about the idea of living in a safe, protected bubble.

Then there is the realization that this "Flat Earth" type creator has created a safe, protected, cozy little bubble, because he has created humans who are frightened to live outside of a safe, protected, cozy little bubble.

But such a creator would be restrained by the limits of the very beings that he created. He could not be different from what his creation thinks he is... and he created them this way.

No, I can't wrap my head around that.

I think people forget both pilots and NASA astronauts must have clearance to fly. Pilots need lower level clearance, but still can't tell the layperson everything they see, do or discover in their activities. Astronauts must have top secrete clearance
That's not true. You need the appropriate qualifications to be a pilot and of course you need ATC clearance for your journey, but unless you're a military pilot there are no reporting restrictions.

In earlier times (e.g. cold war), astronauts needed fairly high-level security clearances, and still need security clearance for work involving DoD tests and payloads, but now there's no specific requirement beyond background checks, and no NDAs are required. Obviously, they can't talk about secret or restricted military matters, but there's no problem with the everyday stuff.

Yes, but according to FE'ers (in order to maintain and propagate their farce), the "real" truth about it all is "secret stuff", that the astronauts are not allowed to talk about.
