And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. - Acts 20:7

And we have been doing it ever since. No word on worshipping on Saturday.

Hi rockytopva,

Nice to meet you and welcome. Thanks for sharing your thought here. Accoding to God's WORD God's people met EVERYDAY of the week

ACTS 2:46-47
[46], And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
[47], Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

The first day of the week was one of many days God's people met to share God's WORD and break bread.

Where does it say God's 4th Commandment has been ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day?

God bless.

First show us where in all the Bible does it say that everything we need to know about the true faith is found in the Bible. Start with where it tells us which books are actually supposed to be in the canon, and which aren't.

Hello brother chilehed, welcome here brother. Nice to meet you here and thanks for sharing your thoughts. According to God's WORD JESUS is the LIVING WORD of GOD who has given mankind the spoken and written Word of God. God's WORD say ONLY God's WORD is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it *ROMANS 3:4. This OP is asking the question where in God's WORD does it say that God's 4th Commandment is ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY DAY. Do you have any scriptures to share?

Why do Saturday keepers make such a big issue out of Saturday keeping?

If you want a verse or two about the abrogation, abolishing, ending of the ten commandments written on stone tablets for Moses then take a look at:
2 Corinthians 3:1-18 Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some do, letters of recommendation to you, or from you? 2 You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on your hearts, to be known and read by all men; 3 and you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 4 Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God, 6 who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not in a written code but in the Spirit; for the written code kills, but the Spirit gives life. 7 Now if the dispensation of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such splendor that the Israelites could not look at Moses' face because of its brightness, fading as this was, 8 will not the dispensation of the Spirit be attended with greater splendor? 9 For if there was splendor in the dispensation of condemnation, the dispensation of righteousness must far exceed it in splendor. 10 Indeed, in this case, what once had splendor has come to have no splendor at all, because of the splendor that surpasses it. 11 For if what faded away came with splendor, what is permanent must have much more splendor. 12 Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, 13 not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not see the end of the fading splendor. 14 But their minds were hardened; for to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. 15 Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their minds; 16 but when a man turns to the Lord the veil is removed. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Hello brother GingerBeer, nice to see you and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

However you may wish to re-visit your intepretation of 2 CORINTHIANS 3:1-18. No where does this chapter say that God's 10 commandments are ABOLISHED it is talking about the OLD and NEW COVENANT and the LAW written on stone being written in the HEART through the SPIRIT to LOVE because LOVE is the fulfilling (expression of God's LAW) in those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD.

Let's look at the scriptures and show all the context shall we?

2 CORINTHIANS 3:1-10
[1], Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
[2], You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
[3], Since you are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.
[4], And such trust have we through Christ toward God:
[5], Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
[6], Who also has made us able ministers of the new covenant; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life.
[7], But if the ministry of death, written and engraved in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
[8], How shall not the ministry of the Spirit be more glorious?
[9], For if the ministry of condemnation be glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness exceed in glory.
[10], For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excels.

Now take a look at v3 highlighted in RED which is the CONTEXT or what follows. Now take a look at the NEW COVENANT promise from Jeremiah 31:31-34 and repeated by the same same author as Corinthians in Hebrews 8:10-12 and 10:16-17

Hebrews 8:10-12
[10], For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
[11], And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
[12], For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

2 Corinthians 3 is talking about the NEW COVENANT of God's LAW written on the heart through faith that works by LOVE by His Spirit. Moving from the tables of stone to the fleshly tables of the heart (2 Corinthiand 3:3; Hebrews 8:10)

Let's look at the scriptures laid out together side by side...

2 CORINTHIANS 3:3, [3], Since you are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.

links to...

Hebrews 8:10 [10], For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.

links to...

JEREMIAH 31:33 [33], But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, said the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

links to...

EZEKIEL 36:26-27 [26], A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. (Compare this to 2 CORINTHIANS 3:3)

links to...

2 CORINTHIANS 3:3 [3], Since you are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.

continuing in Ezekiel 36..

[27], And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them.

God's Spirit of love...

ROAMNS 13:8-10 [8], Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law. [9], For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. [10], Love works no ill to his neighbor: THEREFORE LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW.

.................

CONCLUSION
: 2 Corinthians 3 is talking about the NEW COVENANT of LOVE written on the heart to walk in God's LAW, through LOVE. It is NOT talking about ABOLISHING God's LAW it is talking about FULFILLING God's LAW in those who BELIEVE God's WORD. This is RIGHTEOUSNESS (Salvation) by FAITH for a SINNER that BELIEVES the WORD'S of the SAVIOUR (JESUS). What is being ABOLISHED is the condemnation and the penalty of sin [DEATH] through FAITH in Christ by walking in the Spirit under the NEW COVENANT.

................

SIN is still the same as it has always been which is the breaking of God's Commandments (James 2:9-11; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4) Those who CONTINUE in UNREPENTANT SIN will NOT enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN.

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

Sorry brother God's WORD disagrees with you. If you do away with God's 10 Commandments, then you have no knowledge of what sin is. If you have no knowledge of what sin is, you have no need of a Saviour. If you have no Saviour, you have no salvation because you are still in your sins and have not been born again to walk in God's Spirit by faith that works by love.

Hope this helps

Seems to me that several things are true that are not stated in the bible. For example 27 divided by 9 is three is true and not stated in the bible. Tuesday is the day after Monday and that is true yet not stated in the bible. Donald is currently the President of the USA and that is true yet not stated in the bible. Maybe you are overstating your case when you write "only God's WORD is true"

Hello Brother GingerBeer,

What does this have to do with the OP which is asking where in all of God's WORD does it say God's 4th commandment is ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY day? Did you have any scriptures to share with us?

If GOD'S WORD and GOD himself tells us that in the NEW COVENANT His ETERNAL LAW (10 commandments) give us the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSALMS 119:172 and that God's 4th Commandment is one of the 10 Commandment that show us what SIN is when broken and it is God's WORD that says that if we break ANY ONE of God's 10 commandments in the NEW COVENANT we stand guilty before GOD of sin *JAMES 2:10-11, then would you not want to know where in God's WORD does it say God's 4th Commandment has been ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY DAY?

It is God's WORD that says All those who CONTINUE in KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN will not enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN *HEBREWS 10:26-27 because they reject the gift of God's dear son *ROMANS 6:23. OBEDIENCE to God's LAW is not how we are saved it is the FRUIT of God's work in us as we BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD. If our faith has no fruit it is dead *JAMES 2:18-20; 26 and our tree will be cast down and thrown into the fire *MATTHEW 3:10; 7:19-20; 13:49-50.

For me I believe God's people are in every Church. These are those who are living up to all the truth in God's WORD that God has revealed to them. In times of IGNORANCE God does not hold us accountable to sin *ACTS 17:30-31; JAMES 4:17 until we RECEIVE a KNOWLEDGE of the truth and grow through as we CONTINUE in his WORD *JOHN 8:31.

Once a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come God calls all men everywhere to REPENT and BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD *ACTS 17:30. If we reject God's WORD then we are no longer BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God because we are still in our sins. ALL those who CONTINUE in KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN (breaking any one of God's 10 Commandments) will not enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN *HEBREWS 10:26-27 because they reject the gift of God's dear son *ROMANS 6:23.

God's people are in every Church. God's is calling all his people where ever they may be to COME OUT of following the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God to worship GOD in SPIRIT and in truth. *JOHN 4:23-24

In times of IGNORANCE God winks at but when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come calls all men everywhere to repent and BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD *ACTS 17:30-31.

Titus 3:9 does not say "ceremonial law" it says "the law".

Thanks for sharing your thoughts however on Titus 3:9 brother most of the scholars and commentaries (linked) on Titus 3:9 of this verse also agree that this scripture is talking about questions and geneologies about the ceremonial laws of Moses not God's 10 commandments. Geneologies is tracing generations and the GREEK word used here for law is

νομικός; nomikos From G3551; according (or pertaining) to law, that is, legal (ceremonially); as noun, an expert in the (Mosaic) law: - about the law, lawyer.

As posted earlier we are not posting geneologies in the ceremonial laws of Moses. We are discussing SIN and God's 10 commandments.

Many people try to use this verse because they either do not understand it or as an escape to avoid talking about God's 10 commandnents that give us the KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is when broken *ROMANS 3:20

Hope this helps.

This discussion is played out. I don’t even feel like answering. Both scripture and tradition make it clear that the seventh day sabbath is not a requirement and that Sunday is the Lord’s Day which is God’s Holy day for Christians. Do we really need to post all those arguments again?

Hello brother David, nice to meet you and thanks for sharing your thoughts. If your statement above is true brother can you please answer the qestions in the OP? Where is the scripture that says that God's 4th commandment is ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY DAY? Where is the scripture that says that the LORD'S DAY is Sunday? If you cannot show any scriptures then it is only your words against God's WORD. Thanks for sharing.

God bless.

No mention of the sabbath here.
Sabbath is Saturday (7th day of week), not Sunday (1st).

Hello sister Rubiks, nice to meet you and welcome.

According to God's WORD God's people met everyday of the week sharing God's WORD and breaking bread together.

ACTS 2:46:47
[46], And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
[47], Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

God's people meeting everyday of the week does not say God's 4th Commandment has which is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what SIN is when broken *ROMANS 3:20 has been ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY or everyday as a Holy day does it?

God bless.

Sabbath or Sunday?

Hi David, thanks for your website c&p. However nothing you have posted is scripture and only references outside of God's WORD. Only God's WORD is true brother and according to JESUS we should believe and follow it over the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God *MATTHEW 15:3-9.

This OP is asking for scripture to answer any of the questions provided in the OP. Where in all of God's WORD does it say Gods 4th commandment is ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY DAY. Do you have any scriptures? I can also provide you if you want scripture and historical references showing the Sabbath has been kept by God's people unbroken from GENESIS to JESUS and the APOSTLES to after the death of JESUS unbroken to the very present day if you are interested?

God bless

Yes brother ..sadly people gather in buildings on a certain day(s) and a certain time and call it worship . They did the same thing in Isaiah 's day and in Amos day . ( Amos 5:22 ) Bring no more vain oblations : incense is an abomination to me , your new moons and SABBATHS , the calling of assemblies , I can not endure . You would be surprised at how many people think they are worshipping God by keeping the old covenant sabbath rather than doing truth and love every day . We are very task oriented by nature ...we want to "do" something for God but we know that He must do something for us ...we must be born again .
Everyone knows that Jesus was Jesus every day ...as is His body ..Not just Friday night to Saturday night . But also as the part is included in the whole , every day is His . Monday is Holy or it is not . Be ye Holy , for I am Holy ( I think Monday is Holy along with every other day . ) But as your and my apostle Paul sent by Jesus Christ says " Some people esteem one day more special than others and others esteem every day alike . " So in answer to your question ..Yes , we are to keep the sabbath for the Lord of the Sabbath said " I will never leave you nor forsake you . "
Now the whole " forsake not the assembling of yourselves together " from Hebrews is what you may be referring to ...which DAY do we assemble ? That is up to the individual but I say as often is possible . ( Just be careful that one does not start patting their selves on the back because they keep the letter of one of the laws . ) It causes a blindness ...a spiritual pride if you will ...It will cause one to take the highest seat at a gathering ..only to be asked to take a lower seat by the Master of the feast .
( I am aware of too many martyrs that have given their lives because of their great love for Jesus ...and some "worshipped"on Sundays and others observed Christmas . ) I hope to be able to see them crowned from the tiny corner of God's Kingdom that I can rightly claim by my sacrifice . How about you ?

Hi brother NeedyFollower, nice to meet you and thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
Yes I agree that we need to seek JESUS everyday because it is only as we continue in his WORD by BELIEVING and FOLLOWING him that he changes our hearts to LOVE as he first LOVED us. JESUS tells us that if we knowingly follow the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God we are not following God *MATTHEW 15:3-9.

God's 4th commandment is one of the 10 commandments that gives us the KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is when broken *ROMANS 3:20. God's WORD says if we break ANY ONE of God's commandments we stand guilty before God of SIN *JAMES 2:10-11. If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

I believe God's people are in every church *JOHN 10:16 and He knows that many break this commandment out of IGNORANCE because what they have been taught in the Churches they may be in. JESUS says that the hour is coming and NOW is that he will call his people out from following the teachings and tradtions of men to worship God in Spirit and in truth according to his WORD *JOHN 4:23-24

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9) There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God? In times of ignorance God winks at but now ,<when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come> calls all men everywhere to REPENT (FOLLOW) (Acts 17:30-31).

God bless and thanks for sharing.

Acts 15 had everything to do with the commandments! Specifically speaking it deals with what is called Halacha in Judaism.

The word "halakhah" (from the root halakh, "to go"), the legal side of Judaism (as distinct from aggadah, the name given to the nonlegal material, particularly of the rabbinic literature), embraces personal, social, national, and international relationships, and all the other practices and observances of Judaism. In the Bible the good life is frequently spoken of as a way in which men are "to go," e.g., "and shalt show them the way wherein they are to go and the work that they must do" (Ex. 18:20). Originally the term halakhah (pl. halakhot) had the meaning of the particular law or decision in a given instance, as in the frequent expression "this is a law given to Moses on Sinai" ( *Halakhah le-Moshe mi-Sinai ). This usage persisted, but side by side with it there developed the use of halakhah as a generic term for the whole legal system of Judaism, embracing all the detailed laws and observances. For instance, the Talmud (Shab. 138b) comments on "the word of the Lord" (Amos 8:12) that this means the halakhah.

Halakhah

Hello brother Pavel Mosko,

The law of MOSES is not God's ETERNAL LAW (10 commmandments) *DEUTERONOMY 31:24-26; EXODUS 24:7. ACTS 15 is not discussing God's 10 commandments it is debating the question; IS CIRCUMCISION A REQUIREMENT OF SALVATION? *ACTS 15:1-2 which is the CONTEXT and question for consideration of ACTS 15.

Your interpretation of the scriptures here brother is in contradiction with what PAUL says elsewhere and the rest of the NEW TESTAMENT scriptures. This outcome of ACTS 15 was that CIRCUMCISION is not a requirement of SALVATION.

1 CORITHIANS 7 [19] CIRCUMCISION IS NOTHING, AND UNCIRCUMCISION IS NOTHING, BUT THE KEEPING OF THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD.

CIRCUMCISION is from the MOSAIC BOOK of the law and is not one of God's 10 commandments but was a SHADOW law pointed to a NEW HEART by under the NEW COVENANT by faith in God's WORD.

FORTOLD IN THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES….

DEUTERONOMY 30:6 [6] And the LORD your God will CIRCUMCISE YOUR HEART AND THE HEART OF YOUR DECENDENCE, TO LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITHYOU’RE YOUR SOUL, THAT YOU MAY LIVE.

JEREMIAH 4:4 [4] CIRCUMCISE YOURSELF TO THE LORD, AND TAKE AWAY THE FORESKINS OF YOUR HEART, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

DEUTERONOMY 10:16 [16] CIRCUMCISE therefore THE FORESKIN OF YOUR HEART, and be no more stiff-necked.

NEW COVENANT FULFILLMENT of the SHADOWS of the CEREMONIAL ORDINANCE of CIRCUMCISION pointing the CIRCUMCISION of the HEART through faith in Christ…

ROMANS 2:25 [25] For circumcision verily profits, if you keep the law: but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision is made uncircumcision. [26], Therefore if the uncircumcision keeps the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? [27], And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfils the law, judge you, who by the letter and circumcision do transgress the law? [28], FOR HE IS NOT A JEW, WHO IS ONE; NEITHER IS THAT CIRCUMCISION, WHICH IS OF THE OUTWARD FLESH: [29], BUT HE IS A JEW WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY; AND CIRCUMCISION IS THAT OF THE HEART, IN THE SPIRIT AND NOT IN THE LETTER; WHOSE PRAISE IS NOT OF MEN BUT OF GOD.

1 CORITHIANS 7:19 [19] CIRCUMCISION IS NOTHING, AND UNCIRCUMCISION IS NOTHING, BUT THE KEEPING OF THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD.

This is the operation of GOD in the NEW COVENANT…

HEBREWS 8 [10], For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS, AND WRITE THEM IN THEIR HEARTS: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people

What you have written above applies to the MOSAIC BOOK of the COVENANT and it's SHADOW laws fulfilled in Christ. ACTS 15 however is not referring to God's 10 Commandments that the NEW TESTAMENT tells has give us the KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is when broken *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4. You mix up your SHADOW laws from the MOSAIC BOOK of the OLD COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7 with God's ETERNAL LAW that gives us the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTOUESNESS in the NEW.

Hope this helps.

For a Bible guy, I'm amazed at how unscriptural you are when it suits your purposes!
Really brother? Yet here you still are not able to answer any of the questions in this OP?
2 CORINTHIANS 13:1
KJ21 This is the third time I am coming to you. “In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.” (Deuteronomy 19:15, Deuteronomy 17:6)

Proverbs 22:28 New King James Version (NKJV)
28 Do not remove the ancient [a]landmarkWhich your fathers have set.

1 TIMOTHY 3:15
KJ21 but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou ought to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
How does any one of these scriptures address anything in the post you are quoting from?
Where is the scriptures that says that SUNDAY is the LORD'S DAY? Or where are the scriptures that say God's 4th commandments is ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY day?

It is a historical fact that the Early Church worshiped both on Saturday (the Sabbath) and Sunday (The Day of the Lord, because the resurrection took place on that day). I can quote a multitude of ancient witnesses to establish those facts (and will do so if need be), and the testimony of the Church has never been that Saturday is the Lord's day! But for this time, I will just link this article. https://orthodoxwiki.org/Lord's_Day

Who said that for a time God's people did not worship God on Sabbath and Sunday?
Do you have any scriptures to share? Where is the scriptures that say God's 4th Commandment has been ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY DAY? Where is the scriptures that say the LORD'S DAY is SUNDAY? Yep you guessed it there is none.

God bless.

I'm surprised nobody's brought up Colossians 2:16. Colossians 2:16 "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day."
Also, we worship on a Sunday because it is the day that Christ rose from the dead. But that's been said already.

Already been brought up and addressed early in this thread in post 55 linked. Follow the links in the early post if your interested.

The OLD TESTAMENT is written in HEBREW and translated into the GREEK. The HEBREW WORD for SABBATH is SABBATH SHABBATH שׁבּת (H7676) Intensive from H7673; intermission, that is, (specifically) the Sabbath: - (+ every) sabbath.

The GREEK translation of the HEBREW word SABBATH SHABBATH שׁבּת is σάββατον; SABBATON; sab'-bat-on Of Hebrew origin [H7676]; the Sabbath (that is, Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); by extension a se'nnight, that is, the interval between two Sabbaths; likewise the plural in all the above applications: - sabbath (day), week.

NOTE: The application of SABBATON from the GREEk translation of SHABBATH has a wider application than merely GOD'S 4th Commandment or SEVENTH DAY. It also includes ANY DAY OF WEEKLY REPOSE FROM SECULAR WORK. The use of the word SABBATON is not retricted only to the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH of God's 4th Commandment. It can also mean the intervals between the SABBATH depending on the context it is applied in also ANY DAY of the week NO WORK is done. Therefore as the GREEK word has many meanings and applications the CONTEXT of how the GREEK word is used determines the correct definition.

This means ALL the annual feast days that were not the SEVENTH DAY but where no work was to be done are also translated as SABBATON.

These ceremonial "SPECIAL" Sabbaths (plural) were connected to..

* Annual festival of The blowing of trumpet (Leviticus 23:24)
* Annual Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:32)
* Annual Feast of tabernacles (Leviticus 23:39)

These "SPECIAL" Sabbath could fall on any day and were connected directly to these festivals that were prophetic in nature pointing to Jesus and God's plan of Salvation in the NEW COVENANT.

................

The within scripture and chapter CONTEXT is where we then must determine the correct application and meaning of COLOSSIANS 2:16-17 which is in reference to the OLD TESTAMENT scriptures.

COLOSSIANS 2:16 [16] Let no man therefore judge you in MEAT, or in DRINK, or in respect of an HOLYDAY [FEASTIVALS], or of the NEW MOON, or of the SABBATH DAYS <plural>:

PAUL'S within scriptures CONTEXT and use of COLOSSIANS 2:16-17 is in reference to the OLD TESTAMENT scriptures.

EZEKIEL 45:17 [17] And it shall be the prince's part to give BURNT OFFERINGS, and MEAT OFFERINGS, and DRINK OFFERINGS, in the FEASTS, and in the NEW MOONS, and in the SABBATHS, in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation for the house of Israel.

NUMBERS 28 [9] And on the Sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a MEAT OFFERING, mingled with oil, and the DRINK OFFERING thereof: [10] This is the burnt offering of EVERY SABBATH, beside the continual BURN'T OFFERING, and his DRINK OFFERING.

ISAIAH 1:10-14 [10] Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.[11] To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I AM FULL OF THE BURNT OFFERINGS of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.[12] When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?[13] BRING NO MORE VAIN OBLATIONS; incense is an abomination unto me; THE NEW MOONS AND SABBATHS, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.[14] Your NEW MOONS and your APPOINTED FEASTS my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

LEVITICUS 23:4 [4] These are THE FEASTS OF THE LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. [5] In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is THE LORD'S PASSOVER. [6] And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread…… [13] And the MEAT OFFERING thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the Lord for a sweet savour: and the DRINK OFFERING thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin.

HOSEA 2:11 [11], I will also cause all her mirth to CEASE, HER [ISRAEL'S] FEAST DAYS, her NEW MOONS, and HER SABBATHS, and all HER [ISRAELS] SOLEMN FEASTS.

wait for it back to the NEW...

HEBREWS 9:1-12 [1] Then verily THE FIRST COVENANT HAD ALSO ORDINANCES of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.... [9] WHICH WAS A FIGURE for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;[10] WHICH STOOD ONLY IN MEATS AND DRINKS, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.[12] NEITHER BY THE BLOOD OF GOATS AND CALVES, BUT BY HIS OWN BLOOD he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

HEBREWS 10:1-9
[1], FOR THE LAW HAVING A SHADOW OF GOOD THINGS TO COME, AND NOT THE VERY IMAGE OF THE THINGS, CAN NEVER WITH THOSE SACRIFICES which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
[2], For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
[3], But in those SACRIFICES there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
[4], For it is not possible that THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND GOATS should take away sins.
[5], Why when he comes into the world, he said, SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS YOU WOULD NOT BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME:
[6], IN BURN'T OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES FOR SIN YOU HAVE HAD NO PLEASURE.
[7], Then said I, See, I come in the VOLUME OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME, to do your will, O God.
[8], Above when he said, SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND BURNT OFFERINGS AND OFFERINGS FOR SIN YOU WOULD NOT, neither had pleasure therein; WHICH ARE OFFERED BY THE LAW;
[9], Then said he, See, I come to do your will, O God. He takes away the first, that he may establish the second.

NOTE; the LAW in reference here is NOT God's 10 Commandments but the law of sin offereings from the SHADOW laws of the MOSAIC BOOK of the LAW *DEUTERONOMY 31:24-26 from the OLD COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7 (Please look at the attached scriptures)

Your use of the GREEK leave out the context of application and word use that PAUL is writing about from the OLD TESTAMENT scriptures which are the sacrificial SIN offereings and JEWISH annual festivals that where shadow laws from the MOSAIC BOOK of the OLD COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7 that pointed to JESUS and God's plan of salvation in the NEW COVENANT *HEBREWS 8:10-12.

Ok the above section addressed the use of the GREEK word SABBATON and application and word use in the WITHIN scriptures CONTEXT applied to COLOSSIANS 2:16-17. Let's now look at the within CHAPTER CONTEXT leading up to COLOSSIANS 2:16-17 to determine the topic of conversation.

COL 2:11-17 CHAPTER CONTEXT
[11], In whom also you are CIRCUMCISION with the CIRCUMCISION made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
[12], Buried with him in baptism, in which also you are risen with him through the faith of the working of God, who has raised him from the dead.
[13], And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, has he made alive together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
[14], BLOTTING OUT the HANDWRITING of ORDINANCES that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
[15], And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
[16], Let no man therefore judge you in FOOD AND DRINK, or in respect of a HOLY DAY [FESTIVAL], or of the NEW MOON, or of the SABBATH DAYS:
[17], Which are a SHADOW OF THINGS TO COME; but the body is of Christ.

CHAPTER CONTEXT OF COL 2:14 AND SUBJECT MATTER (COL 2:11-17)

V11. Shadows of the CEREMONIAL ORDINANCE of CIRCUMCISION pointing to CIRCUMCISION of the HEART MADE WITHOUT HANDS by the CIRCUMCISION of Christ.

THE SHADOW LAWS FORETOLD IN THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES….

DEUTERONOMY 10:16 [16] CIRCUMCISE THERFORE THE FORESKIN OF YOUR HEART, and be no more stiff-necked.

NOTE: NEW COVENANT FULFILLMENT of the SHADOWS of the CEREMONIAL ORDINANCE of CIRCUMCISION pointing the CIRCUMCISION of the HEART through faith in Christ…

ROMANS 2:25-29 [25] For circumcision verily profits, if you keep the law: but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision is made uncircumcision.

HEBREWS 8:10 [10], For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS, AND WRITE THEM IN THEIR HEARTS [NOTE: THE SHADOW OF CIRCUMCSION]: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

CONCLUSION; The CEREMONIAL ORDINANCE of CIRCUMCISION is a Shadow law from the MOSAIC BOOK of the COVENANT pointing to a NEW HEART to LOVE and OBEY GOD in the NEW COVENANT. The SHADOW laws of the CEREMONIAL ORDINANCES of CIRCUMCISION from the Mosaic BOOK of the Covenant are the within CHAPTER CONTEXT BEFORE COL 2:14

Did you wish to answer the OP now? Where in God's WORD does it say God's 4th Commandment is ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep Sun day as a Holy day?

Hope this helps.

Acts 15 is clear that Gentile converts aren’t required to keep the law of Moses.

The law of MOSES is not God's 10 commmandments *DEUTERONOMY 31:24-26; EXODUS 24:7.

OK - I'll give a "crack" at this thread.

First off get out an Interlinear Bible. Because I'm going to point out a couple of passages in the Greek.

Every place in the New Testament where you see the phrase "First day of the week". This comes from the transliterated word out of Hebrew "Sabbath". It is 8 places in the New Testament.

Matthew 28:1,
Mark 16:2,
Mark 16:9,
Luke 24:1,
John 20:1,
John 20:19,
Acts 20:7,
I Corinthians 16:2

Now pay real close attention to Matthew 28:1 - A literal Greek translation is: "At the end of the Sabbaths as it began to dawn toward the first of the Sabbaths came Mary Magdalene....."

"First day of the week" and "Sabbath" are exactly the SAME GREEK WORD! Note also, they are in the plural. The "end of the Sabbaths" (plural Sabbaths) and "the first of the Sabbaths" (plural Sabbath).

Mark 16:2 - Same Greek word "Sabbath" also in the plural.
Mark 16:9 - Same Greek word "Sabbath" although in the singular. (This particular one is referencing the day of the resurrection.)
Luke 24:1 - "Sabbath" plural
John 20:1 - "Sabbath" plural
John 20:19 - "Sabbath" plural
Acts 20:7 - "Sabbath" plural
1 Corinthians 16:2 - "Sabbath" singular.

Now it's pretty clear from the Greek here that we have one set of "Sabbaths" and another set of "Sabbaths".

It is also very clear that in Acts 20:7 they are gathering on the "first of the Sabbaths". To say that verse means "7th day Sabbath" would not make contextual sense. How would the church be gathering on the "first of the 7th day Sabbaths" when that "Sabbath" was enacted back in Genesis?

Now for the Hebrew:
The Hebrew has a separate word for "week" than "Sabbath". The Hebrew word for "week" is a derivative of the Hebrew word "seven", not a derivative of the Hebrew word "Sabbath".

Next question - Does the ancient Greek language have a word for "week" that is separate from the New Testament Greek word "Sabbath" used in the Scripture? That, I'm not sure (I would assume they do) but I have not been able to find what that word is.

Now that being said; if the writers of the New Testament took the word "Sabbath" transliterated out of the Hebrew and used that for "first day of the week", they could have just as easily transliterated the Hebrew word for "week" (derivative of the word seven) and used that for "first day of the week" had they not been led by the Holy Ghost in the penning of the Scripture to change the day of the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday, once Christ rose from the dead.

Now, there is additional information I could pull together related to what Sabbaths and the Old Testament law means; but I won't get into real complex explanations of that.

I will say this though. Here is how redemption works as it is related to "The Law". It is true when Paul says that if you've transgressed one portion of the law, your guilty of transgressing the entire law. This encompasses the entire Old Testament, both what is sometimes called the "ceremonial law" as well as the "moral law".

One who is regenerated by the Spirit of God and redeemed by the blood of Christ is indeed dead to the entirety of the Old Testament law. (Because by the law is the knowledge of sin). When a person is regenerated though; the Spirit of God has inseparably cleaved Himself to the spirit of this individual. So the Holy Ghost Himself now is the "law written on their hearts". The Holy Spirit being a moral agent (because God is holy) cleaved to this person compels them to moral obedience, even though they are "dead to the law" (moral law included); they are "alive unto Christ" - and the agent that makes them "alive" is the Holy Ghost.

So here is how the Christian who is not even technically under the moral law, still follows it because they are possessed of by God through the Holy Spirit and God can not deny Himself.

Can those born of the Spirit still sin? Yes they can and they do. They do not live a "lifestyle of sin" (that is not the fruit of the Spirit) and they still sin because the remnants of the fallen nature they still possess as the seed of the first Adam have not been made perfect. That will not happen until the destruction of this cosmos and the recreation of the new heavens and the new earth. At that point, our redemption will be fully enacted upon.

Hello Righterzpen, great to meet you and thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

I am happy to share the GREEK with you if you like but the problem with your post here is in your application and definition of SABBATON. The GREEK word used to translate the HEBREW words SHABBATH has a wider meaning then SHABBATH.

The HEBREW WORD for SABBATH which the GREEK word comes from is שׁבּת; shabbâth from H7673; intermission, that is, (specifically) the Sabbath: - (+ every) sabbath.

The Greek translation of the HEBREW word for SABBATH is SABBATON σάββατον; sabbaton; Of Hebrew origin [H7676]; the Sabbath (that is, Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); by extension a se'nnight, that is, the interval between two Sabbaths; likewise the plural in all the above applications: - sabbath (day), week.

So the Greek Word has many meanings depending on the CONTEXT that it is being applied within the scriptures. So the CONTEXT of application can give the Greek word SABBATON a different meanings which can mean to any one of the 5 Greek definitions for the application of SABBATON, So depending on the scripture CONTEXT and application SABBATON can mean any one of the 5 definitions listed below;

1, The Sabbath
2, A rest day from working
3, The interval between two Sabbaths (e.g. any day between one Sabbath to another)
4, Plural in all application of Sabbath day, week
5, WEEK (Seven days)

So brother it is the application of the scripture that determines what definition is being applied. The scriptures you provide only show different applicaitons to the word SABBATH which can also mean the interval between Sabbaths (1st day after the Sabbath) or the WEEK itself of the Actual SEVENTH DAY Sabbath.

The naming sytem that ISRAEL used in the HEBREW and the GREEK is in relation to God's naming of the days of the week (e.g Day 1 - fist day after the Sabbath day six or preparation day) The daily naming of the days all revolved around the SABBATH or Sabbaton.

So it is the application and the CONTEXT used that determines the meaning of Sabbaton

Hope this helps.

Wrong. Read the entire chapter. Acts of the Apostles 15 is talking about obedience to the law of Moses which includes the 10 commandments. The Gentile Christians were given only 4 commandments to obey.

Answered elsewhere, where in ACTS 15 does it say it is referring to God's 10 commandments when the CONTEXT and issue of discussion was "IS CIRCUMCISION A REQUIREMENT FOR SALVATION" which is the CONTEXT of ACTS 15. *ACTS 15:1-2?

The law of MOSES *DEUTERONONY 31:24-26; EXODUS 24:7 is not the LAW of GOD (10 Commandments) *EXODUS 20:1-17 that give us the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTOEUSNESS in the NEW COVENANT *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSALMS 119:172.

My bones against the SDA are not in the doctrine but in the service. To me it is just another cut and dry denomination. In which I must say my denomination. Pentecostal Holiness, is getting that way too.

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. - 1 Corinthians 2:4-5

I prefer a heartfelt spiritual experience rather than an intellectual mindset. Here is our old pastor leading song service accompanied with shouting and a wonderful spirituality (on a Sunday morning at that)...

So, let me ask a question. Is it wrong that I keep Shabbat and do not "go to church" on Sunday?

*I think I'll start a thread "Is it wrong that I keep Shabbat and do not "go to church" on Sunday?"

Come one come all:

Is it wrong that I keep Shabbat and do not "go to church" on Sunday?

Only the Jews keep the Sabbath. In Col. 2:16-17, St. Paul tells us that the Sabbath is no longer binding to Christians. When St. Paul taught that Christians don't have to keep the Sabbath, he spoke of holy days that were specific only to the Jews. St. Paul dealt with Judaizers who were telling Gentile Christians they had to be circumcised and keep the Old Covenant law, which would also include the Sabbath and other holy days , in order to be saved. I believe the letter to the Hebrews is clear that Christians should celebrate Sunday, the Lord's Day as the Day of Rest. According to Hebrews (the bold is mine):

Hebrews 4:3-11 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest. Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said: "Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts."For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

The Holy Bible makes clear the Jewish “seventh day” has been superceded or fulfilled in “another day,” “a certain day,” that is a new “Sabbath rest for the people of God.” If Christians are bound to keep the third commandment, it involves “meeting together,” on Sunday. In Scripture, whenever we see Christians meeting to worship the Lord, receive communion, to take up collections, it's either “daily,” or especially, it’s “on the first day of the week” (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 16:2).

How can you fight for Jesus the Christ if you not of Him?

All I see is a drowning man desperately crying for help of men...

But the Word of the Lord has no place for confusion:

Are you still under the "curse of the Law" Gal 3:13 not a Christian?

..."for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain"
Gal 2:21

Read Gal 2:16

"The sting of death is sin: and the strength of sin is the law"
1 Cor 15:56

Rom 3:27, 7:4, 8:2

"For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth."
Rom 10:4

Mat 5:17

Mark 12 28:34

1 John 2:27

Once again, these are your words not God's WORD. Where does it say in God's WORD that God's 4th commandment is ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day? Scripture please.
once again this is a straw man. scripture doesn't say this nor does anyone else. you do know what a straw man is, don't you?
