The nasty, vicious attack on Brett Kavanaugh may backfire, turning voters against the Dems in the mid-term election. My take is that whatever he did (if indeed he did it) as a stupid high school teen he has redeemed many times over by his distinguished legal career.

You forgot to link a story.

Would you be kind enough my friend to copy and paste the reference you are referring to?
The couples therapy and individual therapy she was undergoing.

Ford said she told no one of the incident in any detail until 2012, when she was in couples therapy with her husband. The therapist’s notes, portions of which were provided by Ford and reviewed by The Washington Post, do not mention Kavanaugh’s name but say she reported that she was attacked by students “from an elitist boys’ school” who went on to become “highly respected and high-ranking members of society in Washington.” The notes say four boys were involved, a discrepancy Ford says was an error on the therapist’s part. Ford said there were four boys at the party but only two in the room.

Notes from an individual therapy session the following year, when she was being treated for what she says have been long-term effects of the incident, show Ford described a “rape attempt” in her late teens.

I don't have confidence that he is guilty as for evidence you should know that most sexual assault cases are he said/ she said. Very few except for full penetration have any other evidence. I'm certainly not claiming he is guilty, but I am patient enough to await an investigation. Considering the position her claims should be investigated.

AFAIK it has been. From what the Senate Majority leader has stated, of the four people Ms. Ford claimed were present at the time, four have, under risk of felony if they were untruthful, said they have no knowledge that such an incident took place. If you can think of any other way to investigate the claim other than asking those Ms. Ford claims would have witnessed the incident, I would like to know what that would entail. The only remaining item for concluding any investigation would be Ms.Ford also testifying under oath.

There was no risk of felony as none of them were under oath I believe.

OK, now where's the part that says "she received repressed memory therapy" as you have alleged?

Why do you have confidence he is guiltless?
Two items that stand out for me is his journal. He was not there at the time, he was on vacation with his parents so he has an alibi. Also he says he was a virgin and even for years after that when he was in college he did not EVER touch women. He simply was not a player. He did not play with women, he was not a womanizer. He does not question that somebody did something to her, but it was not him so it was simply a case of mistaken identity. They had a guy in prison for 20 years in Texas because 60 women accused him of raping them. Then DNA tests came out and it turned out it was not him at all. When they found the guy who really did do the crime he had raped 15 additional women. So it is pretty common for the wrong person to be accused and even go to jail before the evidence can be used to show that they are innocent and did not do the crime.

If I were a woman, I wouldn't trust an attempted rapist and sexual predator to know what is best for my body.
Do you trust the constitution to know what is best for your body? Kavanaugh would permit government to impose stricter regulations on abortion. But there is a good chance if they passed him up for appointment the person to replace him would be even more anti Roe Vs Wade then he is. We are told that he accepts Roe v. Wade's right to abortion as settled -- "important precedent". The story I heard is that Kennedy hand picked Kavanaugh to be his replacement on the court. So Kennedy clearly must have felt that Kavanaugh was the best person for the job. Even if they outlaw this on a federal level, then the decision goes back to the individual states.

My comment was not specifically about abortion, but about reproductive rights in general. There is a big push right now to divert federal funds to "faith based" family planning, despite the lack of scientific merits to that proposal.

I just remember what Megan Kelly said about how people need to be very very very very very careful in passing him up because the person Trump would appoint to replace him may be even less of what you are looking for in a supreme court justice. Kelly is an attorney and as a reporter she was assigned to the Supreme Court so she does know a little bit of what she is talking about. I do not think Kennedy would have wanted him appointed if he was not more of a moderate then people are giving him credit for.

May help indeed.

Sexually assaulting women doesn't seem to have a noticeable effect on most 'family values' voters.
There has long been a tread to victimize the victim.

According to McConnell they were at risk of felony. Take it up with him if you disagree.

I've worked with plenty of teenage girls who were FULL on raped and despite my and several staff's very strong recommendations to report the crime, they choose not to.

"serious enough to be reported" means nothing.

Someone should instruct these girls to report rape immediately.

1) Not sure if you read that correctly. There were 12 of us. As a team there were several conversations had with her about doing that.
2) If your life or safety is threatenned (or you are degraded and demeaned and "tricked" into believing "no one will believe you") you start to clam up, believe it or not. Not only that but the "no one will believe you" line is also frequently used to disempower those victims. Sadly, when the trite "innocent until proven guilty" what that really means is "we don't believe the victim"; EXACTLY what their attacker told them.

So...

As we all know, a rape/sexual assault allegation is only valid for the hours/days immediately after it occurs. If a woman makes the mistake of taking more than a few days of reporting an assault that happened to her, that means that's it's immediately invalidated, totally didn't happen, and she's a lying so-and-so for daring to bring it up

If she's carrying the 'evidence' of rape she must do a rape kit immediately to preserve that evidence, regardless of whether or not she presses charges immediately.

With all the 'empowering' of women going on why can't they empower themselves to report sexual assault immediately, regardless of those threats? Aren't there advocacy organizations that can render immediate help for such victims?
