"nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." (1 Peter 5:3)

Read and feed on 1 Peter 3:1-4, about how "without a word" Christian wives by their good example can win a disobedient husband.

This uses a principle which I believe can work in any relationship. God uses our example.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
~2 Timothy 3: 16-17

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. ~Hebrews 13:20-21

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. ~John 15:4-5

What these things mean is clear: the word of God is the very thing in which we must feast on to have the strength to do what God has called us to do, which is also clear; speaking the gospel message, remaining unstained from this evil generation, and visiting the widows and orphans, the prisoners and poor in their affliction.

The equipment is this: And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.” ~Matthew 13:52

When you are reading the word regularly, both night and day, then you are gaining treasures in your house. These treasures are always precious and valuable, both the ones you gain in your infancy in Christ and the ones you gain to gray hairs and the end of your days. They are all still good to give to people in the right time. As Paul asked us to do, Only let us hold true to what we have attained. ~Phillipians 3:16

If you hold true to what you gain as you feast on God's word then these things always bear up for fruit to the Lord. This is the equipping of the saints. So allow me to equip you now by showing you how to start:

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. ~Joshua 1:8

And we must not forget the word which addresses us as priests:

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
~1 Peter 2:9

Therefore, because of these things, we all must read the word both night and day as the Lord has commanded us. Then we will have good success, for this is who we are in Christ, priests of God, that we may declare his word in season and out of season. This is the equipping of the saints. And, I've equipped you to know how to be equipped that you may also equip others to the glory and praise of God.

So read the word night and day and take everything which God gives you and treasure it within your heart. Soon those things will become invaluable to others as they cry out in want of strength and nurturing which they cannot have by this evil generation. Then you will be ready for every good work as you hold to the teachings of the teacher, Jesus Christ.

Reading/studying/believing/applying/upholding the Bible, regular prayer, regular meeting with "the church", abiding in Jesus... equips the saints.
