no moral or judicial issues with it, especially when there will obviously be no romantic interest involved.

nothing wrong with mentoring the younger women, that's biblical. I would be concerned if someone looked at people much younger than them as their peers though.

I think I made a new friend at work. A girl and I'm happy bc it'll be nice to have someone to hang out with... But I am like...26 but she seems very mature for her age.

I'm also nervous bc I haven't had friends in a long time.

What's ur thoughts :)
I do not think you need anyone on this forums permission to have a friend. She is 18. You are 26. That is not much of a difference since you both are not children anymore.

I've got a good Christian friend who's 96! :)

If we were only to associate with people of exactly our own age, our own class or background, our own interests I don't think the church could function properly. The good news of the gospel can break down all barriers! God Bless All. :)

I'm 23 and even though I live in FL, which has a law that allows people under 24 to have sexual relations with a 16 or 17 year old (I'm planning on one besides kissing or hugging until marriage), I still prefer to go out with a Godly woman who is at least 18 years old. I don't want to take a chance with 16 or 17.

Well perhaps OK but here's the thing. You say the two of you hanging out. Where you take her can end up being 3, 5 or 6 hanging out together and what are their ages? Are those others going to be young men perhaps in their 30's or whatever. At 18 legally she's allowed but you know....is it fair to have her in a more mature grown up grouping which well...I think you might agree you don't know what could happen. 21 years of age or above feels more reasonable to me for a young lady to be with older groups but if it's just you and her alone going out to a movie or for coffee, no problem. I see my opinion is different then others but that's how I feel.

I see people above thinking you have to be a mentor and to set a good example. Why? If she asks for any advice, as in any relationship, it is fine to give your opinion. If someone tries to mentor someone who isn't seeking that kind of a relationship, though, the "mentoring" might be seen as interference, even being critical. You don't have to set a good example. You just have to be a good person and a good friend, as with anyone at any age.

P.S. I got married at 17. My husband was 14 years older than me and his friends were included in my friends - though I had friends my own age, too, and honestly was closer to them. If any of those older people had tried to mentor me I would have been offended. They didn't do that and they were just themselves, with no need to act any different than usual around me and "be a good model." Actually some of them were awful models. That didn't hurt me, didn't even affect me. I had my values and they were not changed. It was like water off a duck's back. When I got divorced I just went my way and let them go theirs.

Just be nice. Just be a nice person. In all things, be nice.
