The age old question, which commandments?

Eph 6:2 "Honor your father and mother for this is the FIRST commandment with a promise" in that still valid - unit of TEN

Matt 19 "Jesus said if you would enter into eternal life KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS" -- then the rich young ruler asked "WHICH ONES?" - And Jesus listed commandments from the TEN Commandments.

Romans 13 - Paul gives that SAME LIST -- unchanged even after the cross.

:)

It just does not get any easier than that!

Exodus 20:6 "LOVE Me and KEEP My Commandments"
John 14:15 "If you Love Me KEEP My Commandments"

So can we ignore these?

Thou shall love your brothers and thou shall also love your enemies.
Thou shall pray for those who persecute you.
Thou shall turn the other cheek when required.
Thou shall make no vows by heaven or earth.
Thou shall only divorce on the basis of unchastity.
Thou shall not marry a divorded women if her husband is still alive, that is adultery.
Thou shall not lust in your thought life, that is fornication.
Thou shall reconcile with your brother before presenting an offering at the altar.
Thou shall not call someone a fool.
Thou shall acquire a righteousness that exceeds the righteousness of the Pharisees.
Thou shall endure to the end, always believing in Jesus.
Thou shall not get drunk.
Thou shall not speak poorly about others, thou will be judged by your words.
Thou shall not blaspheme the Holy Spirit, that sin will never be forgiven.
Thou shall be humble.
Thou shall bind the strong man.
Thou shall not scatter, thou will in fact gather with me.
Thou shall shine your light before men.
Thou shall not worry about tomorrow.
Thou shall not worry about your own life.
Thou shall not serve money and God.
Thou shall not store treasure on earth, thou shall store treasure in heaven.
Thou shall not wear a gloomy face when fasting.
Thou shall forgive others otherwise thou will not be forgiven.
Thou shall not use repetition in prayer.
Thou shall pray in secret, in the inner room.
Thou shall not sound a trumpet when giving to the poor.
Thou shall not practise righteousness before men.
Thou shall not judge others lest thou be judged by that same measure.
Thou shall not give what is holy to the dogs.
Thou shall love as Jesus has loved you.
Thou shall focus on things above and not on earthly things.
Thou shall place others first at all times.
Thou shall rejoice at all times.
Thou shall be thankful at all times.
Thou shall seek the greater gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Thou shall not forbid prophecy.
Thou shall be Holy as your heavenly Father is Holy.
Thou shall enter through the narrow gate.
Thou shall beware the false prophet.
Thou shall do the will of the Father.
Thou shall act on these words of mine.
Thou shall follow me and allow the dead to bury their own dead.
Thou shall not pour new wine into old wineskins.
Thou shall beseech the Lord to send workers into the harvest.
Thou shall bless others and not curse others.
Thou shall pray in the Spirit always.
Thou shall be baptized in water for forgiveness.
Thou shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit.
Thou shall not work for earthly bread but thou will work for the heavenly bread.
Thou shall give, and it will be given to you.

I hope your not saying, that we selectively quote the commandments that we prefer?
What I am saying, and forgive me for my attempt at tongue in cheek humor, is that most who say that we MUST obey God, never seem to see the ones they are not obeying.

Please understand. I am not dismissing the importance of obedience. What I am doing, however, is trying to impress upon us that no matter how hard man tries to obey, we do not even approach the two most important commandments, loving God with ALL of our hearts, and loving our neighbors to the same depth we love ourselves.

Given this, shall we fold up our tents and run to the false grace that tells us no one is perfect so let’s not be ‘sin conscious’ and just relax in our prison cells, pardon sin hand. Just the opposite!

Let us fall on our faces and confess to God that we want to obey, but like the man in Romans 7, we simply do not know how to get free. Let us see ourselves as wretched men, imprisoned in fleshly bodies and cry out for the secret of how to go from overcome to overcomer.

God will not disappoint. No way, no how.

Blessings,

Gids

I guess the question then arises, is it working for you? Not fully attempting to obey, but actually doing it.

Bottom line guys. Either we know how to fully obey, or we do not. It is not a question of what we believe we should do, but what we are actually doing. If we do not have the answer, we need to fall on our knees and ask Him for the how of holiness.

Do we love God with all of our hearts? All is a big word.

Do we love our neighbor as we love ourselves?

Profound questions. When we can finally admit we haven’t a clue how to see these things manifested in our lives, we are at step number one.

Blessings,

Gideon

we simply do not know how to get free.
LOOK for those who do know how to be free, and how to stay free, in Christ.
Every day,
First, as Jesus says, turn to YHVH CREATOR for HIS KINGDOM is at hand.
Second, LISTEN to Jesus , as He teaches everyone how to be free of sin, the consequences of sin, saved from the devil, and from the power of the world, and from the power of the flesh.
Third, READ HIS WORD. Test all things by His Word, and don't accept all those things that are directly contrary to His Word, which are most commonly posted and taught most places.

All in all, put all trust in the Father in Heaven, rely always on Him, for all things. Seek Understanding, and Keep Seeking His Understanding, as He is Delighted to grant to little children, Revelation of Salvation that He Hides from scholars.

I can say it no more plainly.

Is what we know of Christ leading people to actually succeed in full obedience combined with a cornucopia of spiritual fruits where bring every thought....EVERY thought..... into the obedience of Christ?

You see, dear brother, if our answer is no, then it is time to hit our knees and press deeper for the answer, for sure to God, He has one for us if we will pray with hungry hearts that will accept nothing less than the free indeed He has clearly promised us.

Hesitate here, as if 3/4 commitment to obedience is acceptable, then we are the man in the temple saying “Thank God that I am not like those satisfied with 1/4 commitment.”

God is about to open our eyes to a miracle, where the one entering the rest that remains for the people of God fully ceases from his own labors. The highway of holiness is for the weak, the failures, not the strong. It is for those who have ZERO confidence in our fleshly efforts, those who know they need a flat out miracle to be able to overcome fully the world, their flesh and the devil.

And praise God forevermore, God has one with each one of our names written on it. Let us ask in faith, nothing wavering, for He is faithful that promised that He would indeed cause us to obey and walk in real, manifested holiness.

Blessings,

Gideon

I did not understand your post.

Thou shall only divorce on the basis of unchastity.
Christians should form loving marriages, if they choose to marry.

In reality, not everyone is a Christian. People divorced in cases of domestic abuse, mismanagement of funds, drug abuse, alcoholism and incompatibility. A woman who is being beaten by her husband may choose to flee whether her neighbors approve of it or not.

Commandments and Precepts of Jesus in the Bible

http://biblehub.com/john/14-15.htm

https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/words/Precepts

1 John 2:5
But he
who keeps (treasures) His Word
[who bears in mind His precepts,
who observes His message in its entirety
truly in him has the love of and for God been perfected (completed, reached maturity).
By this we may perceive (know, recognize, and be sure) that we are IN Him:

Romans 13:9 (NASB)
9 For this,
“You shall not commit adultery,
You shall not murder,
You shall not steal,
You shall not covet,” and if there is any
other commandment, it is summed up in this saying,
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

The "Big Two" = Love God + Love Neighbor as Self

Hey I know this has probably been posted a lot but I have really been thinking about this verse. I realize and believe works DO NOT save us, Jesus sacrifice does.

I have been switching my focus from a life of fear to a life of love. I have treated God, and the people I love most as a a result of fear and them leaving me etc. Which is not sound in the mind at all.

I want to love, serve and obey God (and people too!) out of pure love and not out of fear of Hell.

Please pray for me I really feel The Holy Spirit working on me and could use some prayer warriors :prayer:

So what commandments does He Jesus mean? Is it the 10? Thanks for your input and prayers God Bless.
In both Jn 14:15 and 15:10 Jesus says to keep His commandments. The word "My" is possessive. So does this mean the 10 Cs are the commandments of Jesus? No way! Jesus compares His commandments with those of His Father. Jesus did not say I keep my commandments. So when someone quotes Ex 20:6 and compares it with Jn 14:15 do not be deceived. The Speakers are different, thus so are the commands. Jesus did not appear to Israel in the desert. Gal 3:19 The law was given until the Seed (Jesus Christ the Messiah) came.

Way! :)

The only difference is that in the OT, Jesus is pre-incarnate,
and the NT Jesus is incarnate...

Both are God-the-Word...

Lamb7...when Christ found us... in LOVE with Him were we? How can we love someone we dont know. Most here I would guess will say "YES I LOVE JESUS".. do you know Him like you know your spouse your mom and dad or your best friend?

This is NOT a walk where you hold hands with EVERYONE else and Jesus lol. Its a personal walk. He is a personal GOD. So.. you see Him with all your heart soul and mind.. love your neighbor as your self. You do these and you are doing the law. All the law is in this.

See He asks us to have faith.. to trust that EVERYTHING He says.. if we keep His word.. have faith that when we do this.. EVERYTHING works our for our best through Him. Gods WAYS.. man will come the laws or rules.. yet its His way of having everything He wants us to have..to enjoy this world that He made for us.

If we don't love our neighbor...if we hate our enemy.. this opens a DOOR so to speak for the enemy to get in and bring destruction. If we love our neighbor.. love our enemy...the blessings and joy of the lord and.. WOW.. with your FATHER IT NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER STOPS! He gives and gives and gives and gives. He is your GOD He is your Daddy.. He is NOT against you..He is for you. And though some things may seem hard.. yet.. His plan...oh what HE HAS STARTED IN YOU.. He will finish.

So.. seek Him.. put Him 1st.. there is NO NONE condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.. He does not judge you.. The more you draw near to Him He does to you. And.. you will see find a love you have never seen or known. Just take it ALL by faith. If He said it He will do it

Dear lamb7. What did Jesus mean? It is straightforward, if you love me, you will keep my Commandments. What does Jesus tell us in Matthew 22: 35-40: If you love me you will keep my Commandments. Jesus gave us two Commandments; The first is; Love God with all thy hearts, with all thy souls, and with all thy minds. The second is like it: love thy neighbour as thyself. Love God with hearts, souls, and minds. In verse 40, we are told: on these two Commandments, hang all the Law and the Prophets. VERY important. Love me and keep my Commandments. 1) Love God with all thy hearts, with all thy souls, and with all thy minds. God is Love, and Love is the strongest and greatest feelings, without love there is nothing, and remember that God is LOVE.
The Bible tells us: give up all selfish and unloving desires and feelings, ask God for LOVE and Compassion, then thank God and share all between each other. LOVE is the GREATEST. What did Jesus mean? exactly what He said: If you love me, you will keep my Commandments. What are His Commandments? IF YOU LOVE ME, YOU WILL KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS. That is easy to remember. Keep my Commandments. What are His Commandments? Love God and love each other. I say this with love, dear lamb. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.
