This thread had a clean up. There are a few rules to keep in mind:

Congregational Forum Restrictions
Members who do not truly share the core beliefs and teachings of a specific congregational forum may post in fellowship or ask questions, but they may not teach or debate within the forum.

Statement of Purpose and Off-Topic
Read and abide by each forum's Statement of Purpose; Statement of Purpose threads are sticky threads located at the top of the forum's page. Not all forums have a Statement of Purpose thread. Start threads that are relevant to that forum's stated purpose. Submit replies that are relevant to the topic of discussion.

Posts that did not comply with those two rules were removed.

Simon is spot on.
People do not realize that many popular Preachers make their money off of their investments ,Book deals and other means besides the congregation.
But as the old saying goes some people can't stand prosperity.
When you look at a Mega Church, millions of dollar's are put to the Gospel, the hurting and the poor.
Even still I believe a Pastor should be paid ,what any other CEO would make for enabling the Church to prosper.

1 Timothy 5: 17. Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

Need to pray for Joel Osteen as his dad was a strong man of God who left us too early........

I will say Joel is encouraging at times and tries to build hope.......
However after working in Title 1 schools among inner city kids I dont believe he understands the struggles of the poor and at times can be very insenstitve.....

By giving his success stories about how all these rich business men used to flip burgers are work at walmart or whatever???????
He is demeaning and criticising the poor...although he probably doesnt do it on purpose....
I have ministered in jails...drug rehabs...restitution centers.......
For these guys to even keep a job thats major progress for them.......
James warns us not to exalt the rich and opress the poor
James 2:1-6

I do not think Joel is being offensive in any way, pertaining to the joy the love of Christ brings.
The power to over come barriers that hold back the blessing of God on his Children.
What is rich?
To the upper middle class it may be three million dollars at you disposal.
To some it may be a billion because they have a hundred million.
To some it may mean a affordable mortgage on a house ,and a job that provides
Just enough.
If Joel doesn't understand poverty then why does he preach against It?
Or is it possible to be predestined to poverty, and that is the concept Joel misses?

How are the Blessings of God determined?
Is the financial test bar ,a job at Wal-Mart?
If so that's fine too, except Joel would tell you God's best would be a manager rather than a greeter.

I do not follow Joel,I may watch three of his sermons a year but through the years I have learned that teaching the Blessing of God is better than teaching the Gospel of poverty.
No one can tell me people in the ghetto would be offended by a better life.
I love the people there and have ministered there myself.

I keep multi colored necklaces of twine on my steering wheel, because the little ones would not ask for money they would take what they could find and offer their work to us,and it's beautiful.

Never heard him preach. If all you have against him is that he is rich, then you better repent. It is not a sin to be rich. By the standards of many, EVERYONE posting in this thread is rich.
Judge not lest you be judged with the same judgment. God knows his heart, and he knows your heart too.
Best think twice about doing His job!

True that. It's not money that's the problem, but the love thereof.

The critics well know... that Joel Osteen doesn't take a salary from his Church. They will then say,"Well, big deal"... He still makes millions off his books." My answer to them is, "then, YOU go out and write a book!"

Welcome back andreha...

Here's a good biblical reason to stay far away from such church: www.gotquestions.org/amp/Joel-Osteen.html

You realize of course a term such as prosperity Gospel, is a oxymoron... when you use it to condem others.

What is the definition of Gospel?

often capitalized :the message concerning Christ, the kingdom of God, and salvation
What does not seem to be prosperity in Christ?

What Church , or human being exist with out any monetary means?
We have people here who are authors that work and sell books.
I bet where ever your from your people do the same.

God's Word says the love of money is the root of all evil.
God's Word also says lust when it is conceived brings fourth sin, and sin brings death ( paraphrased)

Good ole Christian jealousy is the main reason people lash out at others that are blessed with more than they have.

Do you go out of your way to write post about how bad Steven king is , I'm sure he is well off.

Have you ever read his books or watched his movies?
For that matter do you watch any television or movies , listen to songs?
Every one of those things have writers, that get paid.
There pay is based on how much they sell.
I know Churches built on property that suddenly became valuable.
Huge offers and relocation came in, and they took the offer.
Same people who critiques others for having anything beyond poverty.
You know there answer?
It is so wonderful God has Blessed us, now where do I sign?

"For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil." - Hebrews 5:12-14

When living in a glass House.....

Revelation 14: 9. And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10. The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11. And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

I did a little digging around a while back and discovered that the guy behind GotQuestions - Shea Houdmann - is basically an internet entrepreneur with a dozen or so sites all tied together to boost the site's search engine ranking. He's not an actual seminary professor or anything like that. Nothing against internet entrepreneurship, but it's something to keep in mind. His opinion is no more valid than ours.

It doesn't matter what I or you or him or anybody else thinks, what really matters is the truth without a shadow of a doubt. Our opinions count for nothing because above all else, what God says is final, God won't judge us by our standard but His. We are to discern everything through godly wisdom according to the Bible.

The Thessalonian believers do not have the kind of faith so often promoted by TV preachers - the "name-it-and-claim-it" teaching. That kind of populist theology treats God as a cosmic ATM machine-just insert your faith, punch, in your prayer, and withdraw whatever you want. The name-it-and-claim-it are nothing but self-worship falsely labelled as Christianity. According to this false doctrine, God wants you to have it all here and now. You have to feel sorry for the apostles and martyrs of the early church-if only they had enough faith, they would have had gold chariots to ride around in, mansions in the ritziest section of Jerusalem, and vacation villas on the Sea of Galilee. Instead, most of them owned nothing, suffered persecution and died by crucifixion, stoning, or beheading.

What must I do to get saved?

Acts 16:31
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, and your house."

I believed and confessed Jesus as my Savour and became born-again. (IOWs) I NAMED Jesus as my Savour and I CLAIMED Him as my Lord. I trust and obey (in Him) for there is NO other way. BTW... How did you get saved?

and here's more!

**** Our household is blessed.
**** Our health is blessed...
**** Our marriage is blessed...
**** Our finances are blessed...
**** Our relationships are blessed...
**** Our businesses are blessed...
**** Our jobs are blessed...
**** Our children are blessed...
**** Our grandchildren are blessed...
**** Our parents are blessed...
**** Our siblings are blessed...
**** Our ministries are blessed...
**** Our decisions are blessed...
**** Our friends are blessed...

How did I receive these blessings? (I-named-it-and-claimed-it)

I name all the promises of God, and I claim them because they are yes and amen.
If it's not in God's Word then I don't need it.
God gives us all our needs wants and desires.
Our needs and wants ,are fulfilled by the desires of our heart.
I am delighted to be a Child of the living God,I am delighted that through Christ all things are possible.

Psalm 37: 3. Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. 7. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
