The OP is a typical example American nationalistic megalomania about some fairytale-like "exceptionalism" and "greatestness in the history of mankind".

Propaganda and indoctrination are either cute or creepy, depending on context.

Now, where's the lofty background music? Suomipoika doesn't get brainwashed without good music.. :D

]Born In The USA[/u]

Ummmm wait a minute, have you ever actually listened to the lyrics of that song? When you do, you'll notice they're nothing like the fairytale style I was talking about.

This one would score a lot better:

YouTube - Brooks & Dunn - Only In America

"Looking at the promise of the Promised Land" (Wow, "the Promised Land" :D)
......
"Only in America
Where we dream in red, white and blue
Only in America
Where we dream as big as we want to
We all get a chance
Everybody gets to dance
Only in America"

Yay -PRICELESS! :D I wonder what kind of weird "red-white-blue" propaganda-shaped pictures these cowboy rednecks really hold about the "outside world"! This is just simply unbelievable!

You're probably better off with Sibelius.

OK, OK, since it bothers some so much, I edited it out.

Grew up with a lot of Finns as a youth, and have great respect for them. But, really, Finland is nothing more than a tiny speck in America's rear view mirror, growing smaller all the time. So, I should be interested in your opinion,..why?
Because we're all equals on the internet?

Why? Because anyone who is anyone can rattle off those things that Finland has done to to make it a land of exceptionalism and how it has contributed to the greatness of mankind. Everyone knows how they built....well, who can forget how they created the....or lead the way in...or pioneered the first...hmm.

Finland ranks the best country in the world in the 2010 Newsweek survey based on health, economic dynamism, education, political environment and quality of life.[9] Finland has also been ranked the second most stable country in the world[10] and the first in the 2009 Legatum Prosperity rating.[11] In 2010, the World Economic Forum deemed Finland the 7th most competitive country in the world.[12] Finland is currently ranked as having the 3rd highest graduation rate, percentage of graduates to the population at the typical age of graduation, in the OECD Factbook 2010.[13]

Well, they do have Nokia. Oh, and great saunas, where I spent many happy evenings with friends, getting roasting hot, and then out into the snow, and back in the sauna. Ah, youth!

Thomas Sowell, one of the most respected economists and political philosophers of our time, recognizes President Reagan's greatness.

Thomas Sowell praises President Ronald Reagan

"There are many ways to judge a President or anyone else. One old-fashioned way is by results. A more popular way in recent years has been by how well someone fits the preconceptions of the intelligentsia or the media."

"By the first test, Ronald Reagan was the most successful President of the United States in the 20th century. By the second test, he was a complete failure."

"Ronald Reagan left this country -- and the world -- a far better place than he found it. And he smiled while he did it. That's greatness -- if you judge by results."

Reagan's results: Illegal amnesty, trading arms with the enemy, increasing the debt and raising taxes.

I am not really questioning why the republicans think the man is great, rather why they are such hypocrites for attacking democrats when they do the same thing!

As an aside, the languages of Finland and Hungary have a common origin, being brought west by the invading Mongols. My familly is Hungarian, and a family friend - one of our many Finnish neighbors - always joked "Yeh, when the Mongols invaded, the smart ones went to Hungary and the dumb ones went to Finland."

He's so funny.

I wasn't going to post that.

I think "nationalistic boasting" is stupid and childish and that's what I've wanted to criticize in this thread as well. And looks like that's what we keep seeing. That, combined with totally childish and ignorant attempt to "belittle" or "intimidate" others from the standpoit of the supposedly "greatest" (country).

Imagine elementary school "tough guys" arguing over their detention hour about whose daddy has the loudest voice and the largest nation flag. Then take a look at this thread.

So, I wasn't going to post that.

But.. thanks.. kind of, yeah.

Have a nice day, everyone.
