The hypocrisy of some Christians is astonishing. They want the government to enforce biblical law and biblical principle, but when those biblical commandment doesn’t align with politics they claim personal views shouldn’t be imposed through government.

Absolutely and THAT is my point exactly. It may surprise you to know that I support welfare from the state. I absolutely believe there are those we as a society should help on humanitarian grounds.

Everything Jesus commanded is intended for individuals, addressing personal belief and conduct. When the Bible refers to homosexuality as a sin, it is speaking to individual believers rather than prescribing government policy regarding marriage between a man and a woman. The message is that one should personally avoid what is considered sinful behavior. However, this has not prevented some evangelical Christians from advocating for government definitions of marriage over the past fifty years.

I agree. And everything Christ commanded concerning helping others is also intended for individuals rather than prescribing governmental policy. If we are going to say scripture should prescribe governmental policy then all of scripture should guide it and not just the ones we personally approve of.

Sure, but the argument against abortion can be made without an appeal only to scripture. It is no more incorrect to use scripture to oppose abortion than it is to support certain immigration and welfare policies.

What does tgat have to do with allowing someone into yours or your neighbors house who will trash it and rape your wife and daughter? Does the evil doers life and desires matter more? Is that what Christ is saying here?

Interesting observation. Many Christians really are very selective about what Biblical morality belongs to the state and which to just the individual or church. And it sure does look like personal political preference is where the line gets drawn.

Totally agree on this. And that has been the point I have been making. But because it opposes those who have used scripture to support their political preferences concerning a welfare state or certain immigration policies, this is rejected.

Scripture was never intended to force a secular society to conform to it. It was written to the church and meant for Christ followers. It is perfectly okay to use it to express our views as long as we are following all of it and not just the ones we think are supporting our personal political view. But they were never meant for a secular government and for us to use a secular government enforce it.

just to clarify I understand your position, you don't think the government should ban abortion, gay marriage, or transgender surgery—even though these are considered sins in the Bible—because you believe the government should not get involve in religious commandments and sin which are directed to individual believer?

I do think think that government should ban all those things. But not becauae they are sin. Because we don't ban every sin. We are all sinners.

There arw legitimate reasons to ban theae things outside of a religious context. We cannot ban people into heaven. Banning sinful acts will not save people.

There are other reasons to ban these things that have nothing to do with sin.

Preaching the gospel is the way to bring people to Christ. People will not come to Christ because we banned a certain sin.

You are among the few Republican evangelicals who genuinely maintain a distinct separation between these issues ( biblical principle) and government involvement. While I may not agree with many of your positions, I do appreciate and understand your perspective.
