This has been a odd year in Christianity.
We've lost Pope Francis, Jimmy Swaggart, John McArthur, now Charlie Kirk
When was the last time so many prominent church or Christian leaders have passed away.
Stay on guard
When was the last time you heard a lesson on 'being a servant' or Jesus's teachings on the Sermon on the Mount? We've discussed in the past why doesn't this church have 'fun' events? I'm even talking a simple picnic is too much apparently.
I see a lot of Christians promoting homeschooling online. It sounds wonderful, but we don't live in a bubble either. What happens when you get a job & your coworkers have little fear of the Lord? Would they even hire you? What happens when temptation comes calling? What happens when you're exposed to the horrors of the world we live in, & the reality is the world is full of sin & sinful people & the consequences of that sin? I don't understand how homeschooling can produce people who need to function in the real world. & I don't mean this b/c 'they're too different'. I mean this, like, the world is very different from the world these homeschoolers seem to think their child is going to live in, like they somehow think the world is a Christian Paradise their child is going to live in someday when they're older, & that's not reality. Heck, I can't even go to church & can't help but think 'back to reality' when I step out. Jesus says 'I'm sending you out as sheep amongst wolves.' That's the reality Jesus says you live in
I couldn't agree more. Well said.Homeschooling isn’t about living in a bubble or avoiding the realities of a fallen world. There’s no comparison to one on one instruction and personalized attention is preferable. That’s why governesses were popular and they’re making a comeback. Homeschooling is the affordable approach to the same. Most parents use materials designed by educators and you can find curriculums for preschool and up.
Many discovered the merits of classical christian education through that medium and work with schools who provide instruction online. Yes, you can be homeschooled and have a teacher too. There‘s many approaches to instruction and you can find the one best suited for your child instead of forcing them to adapt to a system that may not meet their needs or challenge them. Gifted and special education exist for that purpose.
The other reason many lean in that direction beyond the obvious is due to influence. Children are impressionable and needn’t know the world’s ills before they have the maturity to grasp it. The controversial subjects and teaching methods many complain about aren‘t an issue at home. If you place your child in another’s care for several hours a day don’t expect to call the shots. It isn’t a nanny and they’re beholden to the state but you make the rules in your home.
It’s a question of priorities and what you’re willing to accept in relation to your children. Whatever you decide you’re accountable. You see the state of the world and what crosses your path and what children have experienced in kind. And if you’re not informed you should become so before they’re born. The Lord entrusted them to you.
Training a child in the way they should go isn’t about convenience. It’s about doing the hard things for the greater good even when sacrifices are necessary. You can put your child in a traditional setting if you want. But make sure you can live with the results. The world isn’t getting holier.
You have the opportunity to consider what others did not while you’re single. This isn’t a decision you can make later on. You have to marry with it in mind. It’s difficult to convince someone to do this who doesn’t want the responsibility. Homeschooling is a ministry. The video below is by a christian mom who’s home full-time and has a YouTube channel. She’s sharing her routine for a family of 7.
