  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

This has been a odd year in Christianity.

We've lost Pope Francis, Jimmy Swaggart, John McArthur, now Charlie Kirk

When was the last time so many prominent church or Christian leaders have passed away.

Stay on guard

You forgot to mention Dr. James Dobson.

The church I go to is very good. I can find little holes in their teaching. If there's one criticism, most messages are tied to evangelism. They can find evangelism in any Bible chapter. I don't think the church is incorrect in their teaching on it, I like the emphasize it & think that's very important, many churches talk about evangelizing very little (in my opinion b/c they incorrectly think everyone is saved), but my opinion is there's a lot more to Christianity then evangelism. When was the last time you heard a lesson on 'being a servant' or Jesus's teachings on the Sermon on the Mount? We've discussed in the past why doesn't this church have 'fun' events? I'm even talking a simple picnic is too much apparently.

But the church is very good. I don't think they are 'nefarious' in their evangelism (I have been involved w/ churches that are). I think a lot of churches to put it simply they just get locked in on one theme

"Preach the whole counsel of God"

Always read your Bible. Listen to different pastors. Talk to different Christians

The body has many parts. Look at their teachings and ministries to discern their areas of focus. There’s usually a few that stand out in every setting.

I see a lot of Christians promoting homeschooling online. It sounds wonderful, but we don't live in a bubble either. What happens when you get a job & your coworkers have little fear of the Lord? Would they even hire you? What happens when temptation comes calling? What happens when you're exposed to the horrors of the world we live in, & the reality is the world is full of sin & sinful people & the consequences of that sin? I don't understand how homeschooling can produce people who need to function in the real world. & I don't mean this b/c 'they're too different'. I mean this, like, the world is very different from the world these homeschoolers seem to think their child is going to live in, like they somehow think the world is a Christian Paradise their child is going to live in someday when they're older, & that's not reality. Heck, I can't even go to church & can't help but think 'back to reality' when I step out. Jesus says 'I'm sending you out as sheep amongst wolves.' That's the reality Jesus says you live in

I'm not in favor of homeschooling because I think it shelters and hides them from the real world too much.

I have a number of relatives who are teachers, so I know a bit about what goes into it.

I don't want kids, but if I did I would want their education to be handled by trained professionals. Especially in the early years as there are things which teachers know to look out for which the average person might miss, and those can lead to greater problems down the line if they're not caught early.
