  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

DOJ Quietly Deletes Study After Charlie Kirk's Death That Says Right-Wing Extremists Engage in 'Far More' Political Violence

Donald Trump Jr and Elon Musk I remember off the top of my head.

Donald Trump Jr. did mock the attack on Paul Pelosi, and Elon Musk pushed a baseless conspiracy theory about Paul Pelosi. But neither of them "celebrated" the attack.

After it was announced that Kirk had died, as I was scrolling through TikTok and Instagram, there were countless people laughing, dancing, and otherwise celebrating that Kirk had died. Nothing even remotely similar happened when Pelosi was attacked.

No. Two contradictory views where one believe is dealt with by just outright denying it, as in deleting it from record.

There were countless examples of cognitive dissonance throughout COVID. The most prevalent example was people who would wear a mask believing it protected them from being infected, and they'd get infected anyway, and they'd still believe their mask protected them. Heck, there are STILL people today masking and still getting infected, apparently incapable of dealing with that cognitive dissonance.

OTOH, confirmation bias is evident here on both sides. I have no idea why this study was deleted. Was it disputable? Did Trump not ike the conclusions? I don't know. But what I do know is that the right is ready to say it's disputable while the left is ready to accept it unquestionably. And why is that?

Confirmation bias.

It's good thing people were asked to mask up and social distance. Those two actions did help stop the spread of covid.

Thank you for that.
You're welcome.

The point I'm making is that your claim that this study is "indisputable" is nonsense. As the definitions make clear, there is all kinds of subjectivity in this study, and reasonable people can debate its conclusions.
I have read numerous studies and have attended several classes and forums focused on violent extremism over the years, and while the methodology and definitions used in these studies may vary, the outcome is always the same: far-right violence has and continues to outpace any other ideology in the United States over the past 30+ years. While the studies themselves may be challenged because of their biases or the methodology used, the outcome of the studies can't be denied.

I can't attest to that, I don't tik tock or Instagram. I think trying to be funny with conspiracy theories or memes, or jokes given anyone's death be it Kirk or George Floyd; is no beuno. My views of Kirk does not prevent me thinking about the loss given his wife and his young kids. I extend to them something Kirk would disapprove of, and that's empathy. Apparently empathy, that thing that is said separates humans from the rest of the animal kingdom, is just some made up word to Kirk.

It's not a forgone conclusion, it's an opinion. There’s no evidence that the study was removed from the site for being disputable or faulty.
What other likely conclusion is there?

Here's my question:
Is there an obligation to have conversations based on facts?
Yes. And Some of this has been brought up in the news..but in the hearing today it was mentioned by Tlib in screeming match. Not much came out. So, let's wait for those facts come out.

"THESE people." "THEY did it." "THEY are coming to get us!"
"We are at WAR with THEM!"
Thanks MAGA politicians and newsreaders.
Way to turn down the temperature!

ABC reporter Matt Bevan compares this to when the LEFT's celebrity Martin Luther King was assassinated. What did RFK say? Did he pour fuel on the fire? His speech is included. The way he spoke of his own brother's assassination ...

Compare THAT speech to the incendiary rhetoric today - and it might hint at a better way - at how previous generations thought Statesmen and women should behave. How far our culture has drifted from earlier ideals. (In some areas. We also had MASSIVE blind spots back then as well.)

THEN Bevan covers the Republican's plans to be carried out "In Charlie's name." Wow!

Because I'm politically left of centre, and like to TALK about lefty subjects like healthcare and the climate - I somehow share in the guilt of SHOOTING Charlie Kirk dead! Yet evidence suggests the shooter was a socially isolated, registered Republican. Planet America suggests he was a FAR-right crazy - way outside even MAGA's political range.

I've tried to contact someone who accused me of celebrating Kirk's assassination - and has ghosted me. I thought we were friends? I thought he understood I would never say something like that? I'm collateral damage in this MAGA crusade. If that's happening here in Australia - how toxic must it be in the States?

Oh my ghosted? Charley died......
Not to say your friend should ghost you, however there is no equivalence.

I'm talking about MAGA's response today compared to the Democrat's response to MLK being assassinated.

Watch the video. Apparently it's the only way you're going to grasp what I'm actually discussing - and how your indignant response just confirms everything my favourite ABC reporter has been saying.

(I mean - as IF I was comparing being ghosted with being assassinated! You've just conducted a classic bait-and-switch in an attempt to induce guilt and avoid the actual point!)

And this video is as well. It really is nothing different than has been going on for the last ten years.

The U.S. Department of Justice appears to have quietly removed information online regarding right-wing violence following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
As of Friday, Sept. 12, a 2024 study titled “What NIJ Research Tells Us About Domestic Terrorism” no longer appears on the DOJ website under President Donald Trump's administration. However, it is still viewable as an archived post on Wayback Machine. “Militant, nationalistic, white supremacist violent extremism has increased in the United States. In fact, the number of far-right attacks continues to outpace all other types of terrorism and domestic violent extremism,” the first two lines of the study read. The study went on to say, “Since 1990, far-right extremists have committed far more ideologically motivated homicides than far-left or radical Islamist extremists, including 227 events that took more than 520 lives.”--HERE
No matter how much gaslighting the Trump admin and the right may invoke, that is the reality.
I mean exactly how many liberal radicals militias are out there in the woods playing army in preparation of a revolution?
But kind of like climate change and science itself, anything the Trump admin doesn't like gets deleted from government websites.
They are literally whitewashing reality.

Hmm, let me think...

Since 1990, far-right extremists have committed far more ideologically motivated homicides than far-left or radical Islamist extremists, including 227 events that took more than 520 lives. In this same period, far-left extremists committed 42 ideologically motivated attacks that took 78 lives.
This is the claim at the beginning of the study in question. Anyone who exhibits critical thinking skills should immediately have some questions:
  • What is the definition of "far-right"?
  • What is the definition of "far-left"?
  • What criteria were used to determine if an event was deemed to be "ideologically motivated"?
  • What was the distribution of those events over the time-period studied?
And that's just off the top of my head.
So basic questions about the study are "just off the top of your head"?
Didn't you think that reading the study would answer those questions? There's usually a glossary of terms. Could probably fet all that info within 5 minutes.

What was the purpose.. just to sow doubt?

I don't know what that sentence means. I don't know what you mean. I don't know that you understand what I have said. I'm not going to bother explaining it to you - even though this video seems to be unpacking the cultural forces surrounding you - and that you appear (from my vantage point at least) to have inhaled without analysing.

So now it's finally being confirmed that Tyler Robinson is a member of the left-wing.

That's a really good quote - it should go viral.
I don't think that is correct? Please let me know if you've found other information?

Tyler Robinson does not seem to be a registered voter. He has a trans-partner - which may be part of the motivation. Indeed - his family are conservatives - and much of his online behaviour and troll-calling comes from the far-right online culture, including dressing up as Pepe the frog and the "Bella Ciao" chant! This is from the Groyper's playlist for followers of Nick Fuentes - a white nationalist who himself got famous trolling Charlie Kirk.

Elsewhere in the episode they unpack the CATO institute's political violence study. The "radical left" (Democrats) are 5 TIMES LESS LIKELY to commit political assassinations and killings than the right! The CATO institute analyse 3599 political killings across the last 50 years (most of which were 9/11) - and they found that right wingers committed 11% of the killings - and left wingers only 2%.
