My dad has problems again

I'm afraid things are stagnant and I had a meeting with a doctor and social worker today. Things don't look that great He'll probably have to have a tube in his stomach or else he will have to starve to death after his nose tube is removed, and the latter is too unbearable to fathom. However, that means I have to consult an elder law attorney for Medicaid planning. The social worker gave me a list but I have so much anxiety from the prospect of calling one of them. I don't want to be judged. I need to compare rates. What's the most acceptable rate so that I don't have to spend hours comparing across firms?

For the past two days, I've been swamped in calls and meetings with hospital staff that I have not been able to see my dad for more than a few minutes each time and he told the nurse that he wants to see me and he was on the phone with me just now and sounded terrible He wants to see me yet I can't go because I have too many phone calls to make regarding elder law. Only I can explain the situation best to the elder law because my brother can't be relied on in this. My dad is sad he can't see me and I can't do anything about it and I feel so darned guilty.

So I’m curious what the doctors say about him not taking food and water. I realize that these things can happen quickly with the elderly but have they given you any official explanation yet?

Oh, he's on feeding tubes, but not a stomach tube. He's also on this nose tube but it can't stay any longer than a couple weeks. It's almost a couple weeks in already. Once the nose tube is removed, then the option of stomach tube comes in. If I choose that, then I'll have to apply for Medicaid for him because he "can't" come home like this.

After his post-surgery seizure, he lost the ability to swallow. They tried a couple of swallow tests this week and they both failed, and the doctors are losing hope that he'll gain that ability back.

As far as why he had the seizure, it was allegedly due to waning off the anesthetic used in the hip replacement surgery. I wish I could know better about this.

Well, seizure or not, he lost that ability after the surgery

I looked it up. It happens but the info was pretty sparse. I’m sure because each situation is different.
