I do lol and it makes me feel so old. Although, i will admit i take them bc of my poor diet which can obviously be altered but im on the go so much.. its just easier to pop so vitamins and get what im missing when i cant always sit and eat.

The vitamins i take are magnesium. I notice i tend to experience alot of muscle tightening (Charley Horse) before i took them.. then i stopped for a bit and had one again lol so back to the vitamins i went.

Im really just rambling now lol what vitamins do you all take?

My doctor recommended that I take a vitamin D3, I take it in addition to a basic multi vitamin.
My African American son-in-law was told to take D3/K2. I told my kids to take a blood test, but they won't listen. Someday, they'll find out because three of them work indoors.

I also work indoors but everyday, I get 1 hour of direct exposure from sunlight by exercising outdoors from 3 pm to 4:30 pm. There's a 30 minute session in between where I'm exercising underground, that's why I only get 1 hour exposure.

On weekends, I get 4 hour exposure from exercising outdoors 7:30 am to 9:30 am. It may be not 4 hours in total due to trees and buildings blocking the sun in some parts of my skating route.

That's natural Vitamin D I suppose. I also get them from fortified milk and cheese which also provides calcium in addition. I also get calcium from bones in sardines and chicken bones. I don't recommend eating chicken bones. I can chew the bones thoroughly and fully digest the bones. I think some people can't digest bones and can cause major problems in the gut.

You seem disappointed I quoted your post. Just trying to lessen your worry that an indoor job is going to cause problems.

They still have plenty of opportunities to get natural Vitamin D by exposure to the sun even if they work indoors. Maybe they also exercise outdoors or get sun exposure when they drive or walk to work.

It still is a legitimate worry because your physiology is not everyone else's. Just like in the case of my son-in-law, he's outside more than my kids, who are indoors.
It's all about the lab results.

If they manifest signs of muscle weakness, frequent teeth problems, weak bones, it could be vitamin D deficiency and definitely needs to be checked. It becomes a huge problem later in life to have weak bones and muscles.

Unfortunately, when you manifest signs, the damage is being done. When I was diagnosed with diabetes at 40, luckily I took a blood test and found out before I had symptoms. Alredy insulin resistance happened.

There is a better test now HOMA-IR, that checks fasting insulin, and if insulin is too high, it shows the start of insulin resistance and high glucose in the blood.

Take K2 with that D3 to prevent calcium buildup in the bloodstream. In nature, you'd be getting both because they operate synergistically.

Studies done in Hawaii with professional surfers, lifeguards, and other people who get immense amounts of that subtropical sun indicate that when the body gets all the sunlight it wants, the body tops out natural vitamin D production at about 80 ng/mL. That suggests 80 ng/mL is a good target to reach.

A lot of people taking megadoses of vitamin D might have hundreds of ng/mL in their bloodstream...the body never creates that much on its own.

It's a good bet that during the winter months nobody gets enough vitamin D from sunlight exposure north of the Kansas-Nebraska border. That's a matter of sun angles.

People with melanated skin are not getting enough sunlight anywhere in mainland US unless they explicitly spend enough hours sunbathing...and very few of us do that.

As you say, it's all about the lab results. As I mentioned in another post, the human body--given all the sunlight it could want--hits a target of about 80 ng/mL.

For the record, I for several years I've been taking a daily pill of 5000 IU with 100 mcg of K2. My blood levels test consistently in the high 70 ng/mL. of vitamin D, which my doctor is comfortable with and close to the apparent limits the body itself would produce.

I had prediabetes at the same age. I'm also at high risk of diabetes. Grandma from dad's side had diabetes and Dad had it in old age. Thank God, it got cured with some lifestyle changes because I wouldn't have afforded the medication and maintenance required of diabetes.

I also have high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) from mom's side and had angina and hypertension in my late 30's. Also cured with the same lifestyle changes.

I also had weaker bones before from very little exposure to sun and probably insufficient vitamin D from diet. Not that would require medical intervention. But there were physical activities I wasn't able to do without hurting/damaging my bones and joints like running more than several miles for instance. I now could after few years of specific workouts and increased intake of calcium and vitamin D from diet and exercising more outdoors.

The damage can still be reversed even without medical intervention if the problem is addressed while the body is still able to cope with the lifestyle changes required.

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know my vitamin D levels. I assume they are good because Doc has never mentioned them. My focus is blood sugar and my A1C. My cholesterol is always high, 230, but it's been that way since the Army, so maybe genetics. I had triglycerides at 1500 on one test while fasting. My dad was worse. I watched diabetes eat him alive, he died at 54. I was 24 at the time, and I thought he was old lol.

My diabetes and the rest of the bad things are from my Dad's side. My Japanese mom lived to 92; maybe it was the rice lol. She started getting "old peoples" ailments: high blood pressure and diabetes.

All it takes is walking and diet to prolong your life.
