The New is not an upgrade of the Old. God made the Old with Abraham, and then He the Old was renewed/improved when God renewed it with Isaac, and again when He renewed it with Jacob, and again when He renewed it with Moses. But in Jeremiah, and again in Hebrews, He talks about a NEW, not a renewal/improvement of the Old.Do upgrades make something obsolete, or improved upon? The foundation remains the same.
Doug, tell us then what is the new covenant, what does it contain, be specific and use scripture like I did. We should refrain from our personal bias but use the proper scripture only. The New is not an upgrade of the Old. The New Covenant is sealed and established in Jesus' blood (Luke 22:20).Doug, tell us then what is the new covenant, what does it contain, be specific and use scripture like I did. We should refrain from our personal bias but use the proper scripture only.

No, not the same foundation. Different promises, different surety (Jesus' Blood), different results (indwelling of the Spirit).Still the same foundation, based on His will, not ours to do with as we please.
Now respond to the rest of my post.Exactly
Sorry, but that is wrong. New Kingdom, new covenant, new law, new promises, new hope, new .... About the only thing that remains unchanged is God.New Kingdom.. same requirements
You must not know the OT very well. He required a lot more than that of them. But if you want to boil it down to that, it is a very, very condensed summery of God's desire. There is much more to what we owe God, but you can have it as you will.Which as i said has only requested His will ahead of our own ever since the beginning.
True.. part two said to love all as self. He does His thing and we do our part as commandedBut if you want to boil it down to that, it is a very, very condensed summery of God's desire.
To make sure no one mistakes me I shall list the Ten Commandments as they are received by the Catholic Church.
Nothing in Ex 20 or Deut 5 says that the Sabbath commandment was to be ignored, not maintained etc.Obviously, the commandment to "keep the Sabbath holy" was not to be maintained
on the contrary - we are still to honor parents, worship only God, serve only God , we are still to avoid taking God's name in vain and for all eternity after the cross in the New Earth "from Sabbath to Sabbath shall all mankind come before God to worship". Is 66:23What was given to Israel to practice out of deference to God's holiness no longer was required of those who had entered into God's holy presence by the grace of Christ.
True - but none of that says that we are now to take God's name in vain, worship other God's or ignore what God Himself calls "the Holy Day of the Lord" Is 58:13Heb 6.19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
Heb 9.He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption....
For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence.
same law.Sorry, but that is wrong. New Kingdom, new covenant, new law, new promises, new hope, new .... About the only thing that remains unchanged is God.
Jesus gave no "ignore scripture" teaching. But Jesus gave us 2 simple commandments on how to live.. We do that, we do God's will and that is a start at making him happier with us.
Why not use the Ten Commandments as Moses told them in Deuteronomy chapter five? It's the same ten.Why not list them as they are actually stated in the Ten commands spoken by God at Sinai directly to the entire congregation by God Himself.
1. Deut 5 is 40 years later and simply points back to the Ex 20 event when the commandments were actually given. Why not use the Ten Commandments as Moses told them in Deuteronomy chapter five? It's the same ten.
Isn't Deuteronomy 5 as inspired as Exodus 20?1. Deut 5 is 40 years later and simply points back to the Ex 20 event when the commandments were actually given.
2. The Ex 20 statement did not get deleted by Moses' re-wording summary and paraphrase of Ex 20
3. Moses is not chiseling new stone in Deut 5. The stone tablets are still in the Ark of the Covenant unedited in Deut 5
4. It makes sense to add whatever new wording in Deut 5 -- but not to delete/edit replace the actual ex 20 statement that is the one and only one actual in stone, and the only one spoken to the entire congregation by God Himself.
5. The reading in Deut 5 is not identical to the words spoken and written in Ex 20. A number of things in Deut 5 would not be included in what was chiseled on stone in Ex 20 and still there unchanged at the Time of Deut 5 - but inside the ark.
