Oh it's mutually assured destruction with a nation with a comparable nuclear arsenal. It's basically the exact same plan.

Nuclear war is still something of a fantasy scenario. Sure it's scary in movies...but your modern nuclear weapons don't have the same fallout as the earlier models so the whole "nuclear winter" thing isn't necessarily a forgone conclusion...

Honestly, AI driven drones and early model robots are extremely terrifying and I think the Ukraine war is essentially a preview or V1.0 of what's to come. Watch the videos of those Russians trying to hide from primitive drone bombs or shoot the more sophisticated water drones out of the sea as whatever boat their on is at top speed. It's not the same as fighting a person....there's a real sense of hopelessness there in that even if you survive to fight another day, you aren't any closer to killing those who want you dead.
