  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Maybe in 10 years time, people will forget about the Visibility Day, which I hope we all forget soon.
Are you saying National Visibility Day will dissapear? I can't see that happening. But I know that some people forget that World Alzheimers Day is on Sept. 21.

Yeah, National Visibility Day may be forgotten. No one celebrates April Fool's day it seems, or Columbus Day (well, Columbus did some awful things to indigenous Native Americans, and did not discover the New World). Also, I sense humor about how some people forget that World Alzheimer's Day is on September 21st. I see what you did there, subtle humor, as those with Alzheimer's tend to forget things. :)

Thank you for informing me. Yeah, I have never heard of half of these days. These presidential proclamation days get lost to history, it seems. Maybe in 10 years time, people will forget about the Visibility Day, which I hope we all forget soon.

You're not required to celebrate any holiday or xyz day. Many do not participate in Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Valentines, Sweetest Day, National Aviation Day, Senior Citizens Day, Woman's History Month, Black History Month, Trans Day of Visibility, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, National Library Workers Day, Parents Day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Halloween, Memorial Day, Cinco De Mayo, St Patrick's Day, Chinese New Year or Birthdays, etc.

There are hundreds of holidays or events that people commemorate that you and I probably haven't even heard of, or don't care about because it holds no significance for us. They can observe their special day and I can live my life at the same time. Jehovah's Witnesses don't participate in any of the national holidays but you and I can enjoy Christmas and Easter just fine.

I only know one Transwoman (that I know of) personally. If she celebrates this day, I have no clue. It doesn't affect my day either way. Most people who are upset about this had never heard of it and only knew to be mad about it after 15 years when a news agency, which should have had the intention to inform vs enrage, told them to. It only serves then point to amplify it.

I agree. A lot of news agencies are trying to get both sides to fight each other. Sometimes, I wish we lived in a world with less social media. Then, less people would talk about the news. For your trans woman friend, I will pray for her. News companies used to inform people, say 10 years ago. Now, the news companies try to start flame wars. For black history month or MLK Jr. Day (I am not black, but am white with Roma ancestry), I watch a civil rights documentary. But, I do not celebrate Valentines day or Halloween, as both are materialistic days asking folks to buy candy.

Trans people can celebrate Visibility Day, but it would be nice if that day was moved, so that on the 3% chance it falls on Easter, that the Visibility day can be shifted forward a day (so, April 1st).

Well, I am bi guy (so part of the LGB community) but just prefer more important issues to be talked about. If Biden wants to get reelected, he should focus on bipartisan issues first. I don't want Trump to win, so Biden needs to keep quiet about the trans stuff for now, and probably forever. 2024 is a critical moment in US history, and I do not want Biden to lose it. If Trump wins, the US could become a dictatorship similar to Russia or China.

Should 45 become 47 we’ll be okay; he’s not going to become a dictator.

Easter in 2029 is supposed to be on April 1st. It won't be on March 31 again until 2086.

I agree, as that is when the days get longer. I have a not-so-good sci-fi plot, where the inhabitants of an alien planet use their solstice as the beginning of each year. The planet has a day length a few hundred seconds shorter compared to ours, and a year length a day and a few hours shorter compared to ours. But, that is not the point.

The point is, is that modern made-up holidays are starting to happen.
And then a month every new or full moon. I'm not so sure about the week. Maybe go metric. 10 days in a week. and then redefine hours. 10 in a day? redefine minutes, 100 in an hour?

O well, it will never happen.

I like that idea. The planet in my sci-fi thing uses that time system. But yeah, totally irrelevant to this thread, but interesting. The French almost came up with this time system in the late 1700s.

Then, keep the Day of Visibility in June or something, far away from Easter.
But you have all these Holy days in June.
  • June 1 – Saint Justin Martyr. ...
  • June 3 – Saints Charles Lwanga and companions. ...
  • June 5 – Pentecost. ...
  • June 11 – Saint Barnabas the Apostle. ...
  • June 13 – Saint Anthony of Padua.
  • June 16 – Feast of Corpus Christi. ...
  • June 24 – Feast of the Sacred Heart. ...
  • June 25 – Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. ...

Well, June 2nd or 6th could work. We should let the people of our country vote on this.

You realize that there would be a lot that would VOTE to get rid of religious holidays then right?
And HALMARK would have fun, the more holidays the more cards they can sell :D
But the singles might vote to get rid of Valentines day.

I am single also, and vote to get rid of Valentine's day. Valentine's day is not supposed to be a Hallmark holiday, but a feast day for St. Valentine. So, I am not sure how to solve this issue then. I do not want our religious holidays (freedoms) to get removed. At the same time, the trans folks do not want their freedoms removed. We should find a time of year where there are no religious holidays, then the trans people could have their own holiday on that day.

I had to ask AI, and this is what it came up with for the prompt, "Which day of the year has no religious holidays?":
Mixtral 8X7B said: "I don't have real-time capabilities or access to a database that would allow me to provide the exact date, but I can tell you that it is extremely unlikely that there exists a specific day of the year on which no religious holiday is celebrated anywhere in the world. This is because religions and their associated holidays are spread across different cultures, geographical locations, and calendars. Therefore, what might not be a holiday in one region could very well be observed as a sacred day in another. However, if we consider secular holidays (non-religious celebrations), then yes, there will certainly be dates with no widely recognized religious observances. An example might be February 25th, but again, this depends on the particular regions and cultural contexts being considered."

So dont have religious holidays with dates that bounce around from year to year.

What in the world does Christianity have to do with the moon anyway? This sounds totally pagan.

Because the Jewish Calendar is based off of lunar cycles.
