Gay-rights groups make covert plans to crash the annual White House Easter egg roll.

Actually, the purpose of the event is not to be a fun tradition for children. The purpose is political; it's an opportunity for Bush to pander for public opinion. That it what the event is about. For the White House to be upset about plans to attend the event by gay couples only displays the hypocrisy behind the event.

The Easter egg hunt has been a tradition as far back as the 1870's when Hayes was president. The white house and the grounds are public property, there is an expectation that in some way the public will be invited to visit. I'm no fan of Bush but this annual event hasn't much to do with him at all, it happens no matter who is in the whitehouse.

I don't know if the white house is "upset" about the plans of soulfource to come out in large numbers .. have they made a statement? It's obvious some individuals are offended but has any person at the white house made any comments?

I didn't say that Bush invented it. The event is a publicity stunt for whatever person happens to be in the white house. And based on the fact that Bush once allowed only military families to participate, it's clear that it is used to send political messages.

If the gay families successfully "crash" the W.H. easter egg hunt, then more power to them. So many republicans are in the closet, maybe this will encourage them to come out and be honest with themselves. It could be a win/win situation - if Bush, Jr. doesn't make an ass of himself and ban the gays and their children.

Hey - maybe the easter bunny himself is gay - he's a fluffy little bunny who has a fascination with brightly-colored eggs. Sounds GAY to me.

I know you didn't say Bush invented it, but your post fails to prove anything about Bush since the same event is used by every president every year. Obviously it's used for a political message, every public event hosted by a government entity has a political message of some sort.

Personally I would hope families where the parent(s) are gay would go to whatever public event they want to, as a family without feeling they aren't welcome, and if 1000 families with gay parents show up at this event while the Bush's heads spin around looking for the perfect 2 parent hetero family to use for a photo op it would be amusing.

I don't know what Bush thinks. Though his supporters are certainly upset and given that Bush has a strong record of being against equal rights for gays, I think that it's likely that Bush wouldn't be happy to have them come. Whether he actually tries to do something about it is unknown.

But the point was in response to the claim that it's all for the kids. It isn't. It's all about politics. The white house lies again.

Yeah...nothing spells covert plan like news coverage. :)

I'd be thrilled if this happens. I'd also be thrilled if legal marriage was done away with altogether, and replaced with civil union contracts.

Besides, it's a bunch of monogamous gay couples with children. It's not like my wife and her girlfriend are taking me because I love Easter egg hunts. ;) Now, crazy polyamorous people, that's something to get upset about.
