Jesus never literally said no to all divorce.
But we can read His attitude towards it.
[Mat 19:3-9 KJV] 3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made [them] at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
It is the same with the 10 commandments. Or the 10 Accusers. Constantly Accusing us of sin. Just like Satan does.
They were given to the Jews. As guide rails to show them their sin.
The 10 Commandments are just a litany of accusations against us.
- You failed.
- You failed.
- You failed.
- You failed.
- You failed.
- You failed.
- You failed.
- You failed.
- You failed.
- You failed.
They were not even given to the Gentiles.
Now, Christians, Jews included if they embrace Jesus as Lord and Savior, have a truly righteous high priest.
[Heb 8:1-6 KJV] 1 Now of the things which we have spoken [this is] the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; 2
A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. 3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore [it is] of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. 4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: 5 Who serve unto the
example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, [that] thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. 6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
The law was used to accuse us, and it was used by men to keep power and authority. Jesus removed the fear, threat, damnation, and power of accusation that the Law brings upon man. If you are still under the law, you are a victim of the laws accusations, you are not under grace. And Jesus cannot make you white as snow in the Father's eyes.
[Col 2:13-22 KJV] 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him,
having forgiven you all trespasses; 14
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the
sabbath [days]: 17
Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ. 18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God. 20
Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, 21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22
Which all are to perish with the using
after the
commandments and doctrines of men?
[Heb 10:1-11 KJV] 1
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, [and]
not the very image of the things,
can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3 But in those [sacrifices there is] a
remembrance again [made] of sins every year. 4
For [it is] not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith,
Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not,
but a body hast thou prepared me: 6 In burnt offerings and [sacrifices] for sin thou hast had no pleasure. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. 8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and [offering] for sin thou wouldest not,
neither hadst pleasure [therein]; which are offered by the law; 9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God.
He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once [for all]. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
The message is no longer Law, Punishment, Anger, and Sorrow.
The message and relationship is now Love and Love God.
[2Co 13:11, 14 KJV] 11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. ... 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, [be] with you all. Amen.
[Eph 2:4 KJV] 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
[Eph 3:19 KJV] 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
[Eph 5:2 KJV] 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
[Eph 6:23 KJV] 23 Peace [be] to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
[Col 2:2 KJV] 2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
[1Th 1:3 KJV] 3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
[1Th 4:9 KJV] 9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
[2Th 3:5 KJV] 5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
[1Ti 6:11 KJV] 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
[2Ti 1:7 KJV] 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
[Tit 3:4 KJV] 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
[Heb 6:10 KJV] 10 For God [is] not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
[Jas 2:5 KJV] 5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
[1Pe 2:17 KJV] 17 Honour all [men]. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
[1Jo 2:5 KJV] 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
[1Jo 3:1, 16-17 KJV] 1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. ... 16 Hereby perceive we the love [of God], because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren. 17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels [of compassion] from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
[1Jo 4:7-12, 16, 21 KJV] 7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. ... 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. ... 21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
[1Jo 5:3 KJV] 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
[2Jo 1:3 KJV] 3 Grace be with you, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
[Jde 1:21 KJV] 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Peace and Blessings
