My opinion is God gave people a brain and scientists to help us learn with and from.

Yup.

God gifts us scientists for our edification.

Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering:
or he that teacheth, on teaching;

1 Corinthians 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom;
to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

The earth is as old as God willed it to be when He created it.

Plus another six thousand years now.
hmmmm...... crazy thought just now .....
Since The First Humans, Adam and Chavah, could have lived thousands of years without sin,
did Yahweh Create them already being 8000 years old ? Then their lives were cut short because of sin to under a thousand years ?

Close enough.

But the lazy and feckless figure they
know more than any researcher by
the absurd route of having it handed to them.

He did? When, and under what circumstances?

I know this is off-topic and no-one has actually answered it, but Feynman got arrested by the US Amy because he kept breaking into the offices of the other scientists he was working with to get stuff without going through all the red-tape, and then he decided to P them off even more by breaking into his own office.

Off-topic, I know, but still. It's also very funny.

I see.

Well, I do the same with Mr Hovind.

That video astro posted -- he focused on the "spinning atom" remark, while I focused on his "don't call what you believe 'science,' and what we believe 'religion'" aspects.

In short, his science may be off somewhat, but his theology is good.
What a pathetic attempt in enabling Hovind.
The reason why I focused on the spinning atom remark was to consider two possibilities about Hovind; either he is incredibly stupid for thinking modern Big Bang theory is based on an outdated idea nearly a century old or he has deliberately misrepresented the theory in order take cheap shots against science.
Given his criminal record the latter scenario is highly believable.

Where there are conservative Christians in this thread who can see through Hovind and declare him as being deplorable, you on the other hand are so blinded by your ignorance and bigotry against science you are prepared to scrape the bottom of the barrel and support a convicted criminal with your nonsensical whataboutism arguments and his “theology” being good.
His “theology” is about using creationism as a money making exercise to line his own pockets such as being a Christian minister everything he possesses belongs to God therefore he is exempt from paying tax which ultimately led to his conviction and imprisonment.
Imagine that using God as an excuse for engaging in an illegal activity.

You might have to explain what you mean to him.

This has been said numerous times. Basically, AV claims that, no matter how old the universe is, it only came into existence 6000 years ago. Could be millions of years, billions of years, trillions of years. It all started in 4004 BC.
Last Thursdayism writ large on a 6K time scale.

What a pathetic attempt in enabling Hovind.

I don't think anyone is enabling anyone.

The reason why I focused on the spinning atom remark was to consider two possibilities about Hovind;

I couldn't care less why you did it.

I pointed out you did it, and you just substantiated it.

Thanks for the QED.

... either he is incredibly stupid for thinking modern Big Bang theory is based on an outdated idea nearly a century old or he has deliberately misrepresented the theory in order take cheap shots against science.

Let me remind you that Mr Hovind was quoting a professor -- not himself.

Given his criminal record the latter scenario is highly believable.

And if he didn't have this criminal record for you to hang your hat on?

What was he BEFORE he was convicted?

Where there are conservative Christians in this thread who can see through Hovind and declare him as being deplorable,

If they want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, that's their prerogative.

Read the Bible and see what God's people did.

Especially David, known as "the man after God's own heart."

So these "conservative Christians" can just get a knife and cut out most of the Old Testament, can't they?

... you on the other hand are so blinded by your ignorance and bigotry against science you are prepared to scrape the bottom of the barrel and support a convicted criminal with your nonsensical whataboutism arguments and his “theology” being good.

Would you even know it, if his theology was good?

His “theology” is about using creationism as a money making exercise ...

Oh, get off it, astro.

Imagine that using God as an excuse for engaging in an illegal activity.

What do the Crusades have to do with this? or were you referring to the Salem Witch Trials?

You might have to explain what you mean to him.

God embedded age into His creation for the purpose of letting it work like it should.

Some things -- like cheese -- need to be aged.

Adam needed to be an adult, so he could name the animals, work the Garden, and get married and have children.

Embedded Age is "maturity without history."

Last Thursdayism contradicts Genesis 5.

And your idea of 'maturity without history' and 'embedded age' is just your attempt to have your cake and eat it in too with your 'Boolean standards' in regards on whether to wholly accept a literalist Bible or not in the face of scientific evidence of God's creation.

What’s the difference?

The difference is, it CAME INTO EXISTENCE OLD vs it GREW OLD.

Question:

Can God make a dress tomorrow, so old it falls apart with age?

I’m leaning toward returning to the RCC which is free to believe the universe is billions of years old. I know of priests who have said that it’s that old, which is freeing.

I don’t think I believe that the earth (or universe) came into existence old.

That's certainly your choice.

Others don't either.

But Peter says ...

2 Peter 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
