Yeah, I've lost a few
Mostly the ones on film

The two cameras I have now are my Nikon D50 (DSLR)
and a Canon Rebel I bought from a guy in financial trouble.

Love the little SD cards
Yeah. My Sigma didn't use them. I downloaded them via usb. Oh, before I forget, I always thought your avatar was just that, an avatar. Pretty cool to see it's just a photo shopped image.

I like it. You're much more handsome than I am as I've never been able to grow a halfway decent beard to hide my ugly mug. That's probably the greatest disappoint of my life. I had two major disappointments in my life. First one was I wanted to be 6'7" when I grew up as my favorite basketball player as a kid was Rick Barry who played for the Golden State Warriors back then qas my dream was to play pro basketball. The second greatest disappointment of my life was not being able grow a good beard. I was completely ashamed of that fact for a long time. :)

I was blessed to grow up in the mountains of Montana, Idaho. the PNW, and the country.
That sounds lovely. It's all very flat here in Aus, where I'm from the horizon only usually ends because of trees and sometimes it makes the sky look so big. But your Countries beauty is on another level, we can't really beat your mountains and forests!

This is true. In the 1970s I went to Nebraska with a coupled of college age girls I knew. Nabraska is flat. I had been kidding them about how flat it was there and they started defending their homeland and telling me I'd see this mountain near the freeway.

We got there and it wasn't more than 300-400 high. I just had to laugh as I had grown up in the Rocky Mountain area. I told them that didn't even qualify as a small hill let alone a mountain. I teased them for quite a while about their "mountain".

A special time this week

Thought I'd share here;

Son and his girls stopped by

His eldest girl has Dravet syndrome
Bouts of epileptic seizures 24/7
Heavy meds
She's not expected to see her teens

I don't know how he does it
He's been the nurse
the doctor
the EMT
and
The Father...the single parent

Little ones are so precious
This one, more so

I savor these moments

Hard to take. Maybe this will help lighten your burden.

My wife's oldest granddaughter's father has been very abusive to her for her entire life. We've been praying for her for quite a while and the miracle finally happened. She had been married to a lunatic who was extremely controlling and a month or two ago had given birth to their daughter. After she got out of the hospital he attacked her and tried to kill her. She pressed charges against him and he's now sitting in jail and it doesn't appear he'll ever make bail as he won't work. She has made comments to my wife when they text back and forth that she knows God has been working in her life and doesn't want her to go back to him. He's been in prison before for attempted murder.

Just keep praying for your granddaughter as God is well capable of healing her. I'll put her on my prayer list too.

Enjoying the last of the summer rises

View attachment 335105

Psalm 113:3 “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.”
“Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.” Emerson

It's really sad those things are no longer safe to do. Plus there is hardly any wild clean air left.

Go high enough in the mountains, it's there

But, yeah, the air is rare
Yep. Ground level ozone, a major pollutant gets less intense the higher in elevation one goes. At around 2 miles* (10,600 ft, or 3200 meters) above ground, most of the pollutants are below. Even though the air is fresh at 10,000 ft, it can be difficult for many people to breathe up there. So, what would a good compromise elevation be for those that are inclined to get hypoxia or altitude sickness? Luckily for myself, I can handle high altitudes and don't live in a polluted area, besides when the wildfire smoke covered the Midwest USA a month ago.

Our place is a mile up (5000 feet or so)
The air was fresher than I'd breathed for as far back as I can recall.
Tricky part was canning foods
The good news was deer meat is quite easy.....rather forgiving.

But, yeah, the air was 'wild'
Especially during wildfire season

Nice. 5000 ft is perfect for most people to breathe. Canning food can be hard T higher altitudes. I don't know much about deer meat. Does deer meat have less air bubbles at high altitude?

For air quality, wild fire smoke can happen at various altitudes, and can happen at a few thousand feet. One time, there was wildfire smoke over Wisconsin, and it was too high to reach land. But on other days, the smoke sank to ground level due to colder air pushing the particles down.

I really don't know the parameters
My lady does all the canning (I'm just the grunt...toting full canners around to where she needs 'em)
But, she marveled at how easy it was to can the deer meat up there.
Deer meat of itself is an easy put up
Gotta pressure can, but no need to add water (it makes it's own juices)
Just a bit of salt

I almost hate to do this to you.

Before I was born my old man was a mighty Nimrod. He was a deer hunter extraordinaire. The last deer he shot wehn he was carving it up the worms in the flesh were disappearing into it as soon as his knife would make a slice. That was almost exactly 70 years ago as my birthday comes up in less than two weeks. He could never shoot another deer as the thought of those parasites disappearing to the meat made him sick every time he thought about it. That was in a remote corner of Montana a long ways from anywhere. If the meat was that diseased back then, what is it like now? Yeah wild game is a lot better than beef, but I couldn't eat it anymore either.
