No article for this one, but I have court documents and a real low life.

Yesterday they arrested Tyler Dykes of S.C. in Virginia for his role at the Capitol as he was about to be released from a Virginia prison for parading at the "Unite the Right" extremist rally in Charlottesville in 2017.

Recently (about the last year) Virginia has been charging participants in the torch-lit march under a Va. statute regarding the use of fire and threats (I think it is an anti-crossburning statute). Dykes plead guilty and served 6 months and just was about to be released only to be greeted by a federal arrest warrant. A fine specimen of torch-wielding domestic extremism.

According to the affidavit for his arrest he moved barriers, pushed up on a police line, and stole a riot shield before entering the Capitol.

Former Capitol cop who messaged Jan. 6 rioter guilty in obstruction case
Michael Riley told jurors he was "embarrassed" that he had messaged a Jan. 6 rioter on Facebook, warning them about a post that said they went into the Capitol building.

But they did find him guilty of a second count for deleting his messages with Hiles after he found out Hiles had been talking to the FBI.

A convicted Jan. 6 rioter who said on social media that he “might start a revolution” before joining the crowd that descended on the U.S. Capitol that day has sued CNN for defamation.
Jacob Hiles, a charter boat captain from Virginia Beach, says that a CNN article about criminal charges filed against former U.S. Capitol Police Officer Michael Angelo Riley is “defamation per se” against Hiles.

According to Hiles’ lawsuit, the CNN article defamed him in at least three ways:

a. The bold headline in much bigger font halfway through the article falsely states “Man wanted to start ‘a revolution’ on January 6.”
b. “Hiles, of Virginia, said on social media that he traveled to Washington, DC while thinking about starting ‘a revolution,’ according to investigators.”
c. “He had also posted on his Facebook page, ‘Feeling cute…might start a revolution later,’ tagging himself on Capitol Hill, according to documents supporting his arrest.”

Good luck with that.

Trump State Department appointee found guilty of seven felonies in Jan. 6 case

Federico Klein had a bench trial before another Trump appointee.

WASHINGTON — A Donald Trump political appointee who attempted to storm the Capitol on Jan. 6 was convicted of seven felonies Thursday, the same day a grand jury deciding whether to indict the former president for his efforts to stop the peaceful transfer of power was hearing testimony from former White House aide William Russell.

Trump State Department appointee found guilty of seven felonies in Jan. 6 case

Klein was represented by Stanley Woodward, an attorney for several former Trump officials, including Russell, who was testifying elsewhere in the federal courthouse.

A bit of a scheduling problem for Mr. Woodward, Esq. who also represents Trumps co-defendant Waltine Nauta in Florida and other former Trump admin officials.

Capitol rioter armed with gun on Jan. 6 is found guilty on all charges

A Jan. 6 rioter who admitted he was armed with a concealed gun during the attack on the Capitol was found guilty Wednesday on all nine charges he faced.

Christopher Alberts, of Maryland, was arrested with a weapon on the night of Jan. 6 after having spent several hours on the Capitol grounds.

Military veteran who stormed Capitol with loaded pistol is sentenced to 7 years in prison

“Alberts, with his body armor, gas mask, military gear, and rage, rallied and instigated the mob,” prosecutors wrote in a court filing.

The link is an interesting read. This is a good bit:

I wasn't trying to hurt anybody,” he said. “I just wanted it all to stop.

The judge showed admiral restraint when he told Alberts: You were not simply a bystander

Alberts was armed with a 9-millimeter pistol — loaded with hollow point and high-pressure rounds — and brought an extra magazine of ammunition. Best to be on the safe side, I suppose.

DOJ decides not to retry Greene ending that trial fully. Greene was only convicted of a misdemeanor.

The "leftover" cases are now being combined into one case (including the OK "lawyer" who was indicted separately).

Judge rejects jail for Oath Keepers’ Jan. 6 ‘operations coordinator’

Michael Greene said he was a paid security contractor, not a follower of Stewart Rhodes, when he went to the Capitol grounds

A federal judge on Friday sentenced a Jan. 6 “operations coordinator” for Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes to two years’ probation and 60 hours of community service, rejecting federal prosecutors’ requests for prison time.

No Capitol riot defendant convicted of a misdemeanor who did not enter the building has been sentenced to jail, he said.

And yet we have seen serious crimes committed outside the Capitol building that day; concerted and prolonged attacks on the police being the most obvious and well documented. I am surprised at this.

Well, part of that sentence was "convicted of a misdemeanor". I assume attacking cops doesn't fall in that category.

The '█████ Shaman' and other Capitol rioters who regret pleading guilty

His about-face is such that he is even taking his case back to court to ask his guilty plea to be reversed. And he is far from the alone in changing his mind about the events at the Capitol.

‘Devoid of common sense’: Judge blasts request from ‘█████ Shaman’ to vacate Jan. 6 prison sentence he has already served

“The Court is disappointed to learn that, through his filings and public statements, Mr. Chansley has recanted the contrition displayed at his sentencing nearly two years ago,” Lamberth wrote in his order. “Such an about-face casts serious doubt on the veracity of any of Mr. Chansley’s claims, here or elsewhere.”

Derrick Evans, a former member of the West Virginia state legislature, resigned his post after being arrested. He pleaded guilty, apologised in court, and served three months in prison.
Now he is running for a seat in the US House of Representatives, and he refers to himself and other defendants as "political prisoners".
The term is commonly used across a broad section of the right and far-right of American politics to cast rioters as heroic and patriotic.

"We're finally at the point where people such as myself, who went through this January 6 process and have already served our time in prison, are finally able to start speaking out and sharing the truth," Evans said.

So are you saying you committed perjury, Mr. Evans? Shall the court bring felony charges against you?

US Capitol rioter who beat officer with flagpole sentenced

Peter Francis Stager helped drag the officer down the steps of the Capitol, then "forcibly and repeatedly" struck him, say prosecutors.

He was also captured on video saying that "death is the only remedy" for the lawmakers inside the building.

Stager, a 44-year-old truck driver from Conway, Arkansas, pleaded guilty in February to a felony charge of assaulting police with a dangerous weapon.

--

It's interesting to me that Stager was charged within 10 days of January 6th.

Cua was armed with pepper spray and a metal baton — weapons given to him by his father — when rioters breached police lines on the west side of the Capitol, according to prosecutors.

Previously in Cua shenanigans:
While Cua’s Parler account has since been deactivated, WSB-TV reported he encouraged his followers on Jan. 3 to arm themselves with tasers, pepper spray, and baseball bats for the siege.

President Trump is calling us to FIGHT!” Cua, who went by PatriotBruno on Parler, said in one post, according to the complaint. “His own cabinet, everyone has betrayed him. Its Trump & #WeThePeople VS the #deepstate and the #CCP. He knows this is the only way to save our great country, show up #January6th. It’s time to take our freedom back the old fashioned way.

While Cua’s Parler account has since been deactivated,
From Wikipedia: Parler was acquired by digital media conglomerate Starboard on April 14, 2023, and was shut down on the same day. According to a statement by Starboard on the website's holding page, this was a temporary measure to allow the site to "undergo a strategic assessment".
