I know HansBlaster has looked into the charges extensively.

I believe that.

I doubt that.
You can doubt it, but it is true. I also have examined the charges.

Here are just a few:
Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin has been sentenced after conviction Griffin of trespassing for illegally entering capitol ground as Congress counted the electoral college votes in the 2020 election. The Cowboys for Trump founder was acquitted of disorderly conduct.
He was sentenced to the 14 days in jail he already served. It was 20 days altogether. He never entered the Capitol at all.

Dr. Simone Gold was INVITED to make a speech at the Capitol on the same day- Jan 6 - on the other side of the building where she was going to oppose mandates and lockdowns. She had the appropriate permits. Once unrest started on the OTHER side of the building where those who did riot entered, she was told to leave. She did but she and another guy - John Strand - were pushed back into the building by the crowds and arrested for...being in an unauthorized area.

She pleaded guilty to one count of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, a misdemeanor and still got TWO MONTHS in prison. A doctor who was giving a speech.

John Strand, her friend who went with her, would not capitulate and plead guilty when he didn't do anything except go to a speech. He was offered a single misdemeanor, but when he would not capitulate, they charged him with four misdemeanors and he got a YEAR in prison (after a reduction from 32 months) - and spent four months in solitary confinement.

Note that this is in reply to someone who broke a window and got 8 years.

And a felony.

Found guilty by jury on 9/27/22 of five charges. Strand was found guilty of the felony charge of obstruction of an official proceeding, as well as misdemeanor offenses of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

You turn your nose up at a sweet plea deal, and you get convicted on a felony, you get what's coming to ya.

No, Strand was freed July 24 from a federal prison in Louisiana thanks to a June 28 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Fischer v. United States that knocked out the felony against him for allegedly obstructing Congress.

Government overreach.

Nevertheless, the sentencing was based in part on the felony, which was still in effect.

And Strand was one of the very few who was charged with that felony, but no other violent crimes or felonies.

The felony was wiped out, as it should have been. This was governmental overreach and it was corrected.
It applied to a number of people, actually, who should never have been charged.
