  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Let's say that they magically got seats tomorrow. The European Parliament takes a vote on the war, and the vote is almost unanimous (Russia alone dissenting) that Russia needs to leave Ukraine immediately. Now what?

Leaving out a major European power is silly.

Russia isn't a "European power", it's a "Eurasian power", and therefore doesn't have to abide by liberal western values like the rest of Europe... didn't you get the memo?

Most of Russia’s population is on the European side of Russia.

If Russia joins the European Union they would become more like it over time.

Why? Would Russia only be willing to admit they were in the wrong and announce they are redrawing troops there?
They say “The pen is mightier than the sword.”

The pen is the cure for the sword.

Communication stops wars.

For some far away country that might work.

But Eastern Europe and Western Europe live next door to each other.
So do the US and Canada and Mexico, and we don't need some kind of special mechanism to make sure we don't go to war with each other.

We have a free trade agreement with each other.

We teach Spanish and English in American schools.

And Ukraine and Russia were parties to several treaties that were unilaterally broken by Russia.
