Forty-odd years ago, (not quite ye olden days), I witnessed a patient with diabetic leg ulcer (open wound) that was infested with maggots; the attending physician left them on. “They only eat dead tissue, and will do a better job of debriding that I could in a surgical suite.” When he assessed that they had done their “job” he opened a can of ether and killed them with the fumes. Are you suggesting that we bring back blood letting with leaches?
Maggots are not leaches. Maggots actually eat dead tissueForty-odd years ago, (not quite ye olden days), I witnessed a patient with diabetic leg ulcer (open wound) that was infested with maggots; the attending physician left them on. “They only eat dead tissue, and will do a better job of debriding that I could in a surgical suite.” When he assessed that they had done their “job” he opened a can of ether and killed them with the fumes.
Leeches have a limited role in medicine too, where blood has “pooled” and the resultant swelling of tissues limits (new) blood flow, apply a leech (or three) drain out the bad blood and go from there.Maggots are not leaches. Maggots actually eat dead tissue
Ah, leeches. You want to buy some? They have a special on large ones at the moment. Five for only $83! Now that's a good deal.Maggots are not leaches. Maggots actually eat dead tissue
Why don’t people read the thread before they post? @Pommer already pointed out what leaches are used for and I gave him an informative ratingAh, leeches. You want to buy some? They have a special on large ones at the moment. Five for only $83! Now that's a good deal.
And so you know that it's not some quack treatment:

Question: Why don't people check the validity of what they post before they post it so they don't look foolish?
I've already said why. "I'm not sure what you seem to be having difficulty in understanding. This isn't a nuclear physics tutorial."Then why not just answer the question?
One of those attempted gotcha posts that ran face-first into evidence from actual professional medical sources. Is it any wonder people would rather have medical professionals handle questions about medicine rather than far right propaganda sources? Are you suggesting that we bring back blood letting with leaches?
This ban is supported by Jordan B. Peterson's work. One of those attempted gotcha posts that ran face-first into evidence from actual professional medical sources. The government (?) which “government”?This ban is supported by Jordan B. Peterson's work.
I'm not buying any gay snake oil.
Do you think then that the government should then lift the ban on lobotomies?
It was for Hark's benefit. Why don’t people read the thread before they post? @Pommer already pointed out what leaches are used for and I gave him an informative rating
My guess is that you've been persuaded to now check what you post before you post it and actually Googled 'lobotomy' just to make sure it wasn't done any more.Do you think then that the government should then lift the ban on lobotomies?
Well I will be checking so if he did I don’t blame him.My guess is that you've been persuaded to now check what you post before you post it and actually Googled 'lobotomy' just to make sure it wasn't done any more.
Who do you guess allegedly persuaded me? I'm going by the talk of the town, after I watched 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'.My guess is that you've been persuaded to now check what you post before you post it and actually Googled 'lobotomy' just to make sure it wasn't done any more.
Wait, I think that was electric shock treatmentWho do you guess allegedly persuaded me? I'm going by the talk of the town, after I watched 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'.
That was a very long time ago.
Have you been persuaded to dodge questions?
The way I remember it, was that in the end they gave him a lobotomy; then he was speechless. In conversations about the movie I was told that lobotomies were banned.Wait, I think that was electric shock treatment
I get the point. I was a kid when I saw it so I could have missed somethingThe way I remember it, was that in the end they gave him a lobotomy; then he was speechless. In conversations about the movie I was told that lobotomies were banned.
Maybe I don't have my facts straight about the ending of the movie; but I do remember those conversations about lobotomies in conversations about the movie. Again this was a long long time ago.
Should I Google it?
You did. By posting something that you should have checked first and It being pointed out to you. I have literally lost count of the number of times I've seen that on this forum.Who do you guess allegedly persuaded me?
How high can you count before losing count? You did. By posting something that you should have checked first and It being pointed out to you. I have literally lost count of the number of times I've seen that on this forum.
