On Monday, the average global temperature reached 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 Fahrenheit), the highest since records began. On Tuesday, it climbed even further, to reach 17.18 degrees Celsius. The previous record of 16.92 degrees Celsius was set in August 2016.

RIght, but this is the average over the entire earth, including the north and south pole (and all of the Southern hemisphere, which is in the midst of winter).

Sure, but you don't live smeared out all over an average earth. If it was 90 where you are; maybe 50 years ago, it would have been 87 under the same conditions. And in 20 years it will be 93.

For context, here's a page from Houghton Mifflin's Investigating the Earth -- a textbook from 1967

The reason that the earth's average temperature remains about the same year after year is that it is very nearly in radiative balance with its surroundings."

Due to greenhouse gases, that is clearly no longer the case. The planet as a whole is out of balance so that it is gradually warming.

I have tried to make sense of this. Earth is getting hotter. Sea levels are rising. More violent weather events are happening more often.

See the thing is that we humans survived the last ice age but we knew how to live on the planet.
Now the electricity goes out and there’s panic after 6 hours.
