CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The thing to watch is humidity - do they have a 'wet-bulb' index in the reporting yet?
I am still stunned that 'wet-bulb' heatwaves are not a regular part of our climate reporting and warnings.

Forget sea level rise, crop failures increasing later in the century, etc.
The world's first big wet-bulb event over a significantly populated area will send shockwaves through the global culture.
The only other thing I can think of that might compete in the short term is if a new super-pandemic emerges from the Siberian permafrost? But that's harder to prove, and deniers gotta deny.
A wet-bulb event is a direct impact.
Millions could die.

Yes - an oldie - but a goodie.
As the massive heat differential between the equator and north pole reduces, apparently the jet stream is not as firmly locked in place. A warming planet with complex oceanic and atmospheric head distribution and wind systems has weird side effects. The jet stream wobbles. Arctic air gets dumped over North America much later in winter than it used to. A warming world can appear to have some 'cold spots'. To which the climate scientists say:-

I'm reading Tim Winton's "Juice". "Juice" is what they call electricity in this Cli-Fi thriller.
Winton is not just a popular novelist - he tends to write literature.
For him to turn to Cli-Fi is a real statement.
It's not set in Sydney (yet - that I know of. I'm only at the start.) But this is the vibe.
To think that if we weaned off all fossil fuels ASAP - not only might we prevent this - but we would also reduce all manner of pollution related health impacts and costs.
