  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Einstein thought for himself
Yet based it on known physics and found a weak spot. You claiming you can do that? Write the paper and the truth will out! You don't want anything to do with peer-reviewed science? Then you're hiding behind 'personal opinion' and just don't want to know anything new.

That let the Sun burn the water
It's actually a lot better than it was, due to actually making changes about the use of Chloro Flurocarbons.

As well as negativity
No - just a request for a polite discussion about the science on rational grounds - not someone's groundless fancies. Or else I'll continue to talk about my dream about how unicorn vomit fuelled an F35 over the White House, doing an after burner that painted it rainbow colours. It was so pretty.

Yep - cause that's exactly how the empirical method works and what built the modern world!

The empirical method is flawed by sinful men.

It has many "weakest links."

I know you guys are tired of this example, but it's a good one:

Thalidomide was subjected to the empirical method and [prematurely] passed with flying colors.

And when Frances Kelsey wanted more of the empirical method applied, they said "nothing doing."

The rest is history.

Some circumvent the empirical method and foist their product on the public.

Such is the case with the Titanic, which passed all empirical methods, except for lifeboats-to-passenger ratios.

Adherence to the empirical method should have grounded the Challenger, but it was overridden by management.

The empirical method is only as effective as sinful men can allow it to be.

As per usual, your actual complaints are with management.

Would ownership/senior management release a product/invention ahead of time if R&D said it wasn't ready?

I'm sure they can find someone (cash-cash-cash) to say so, but that's not the issue in the two examples you gave. The engineers at KSFC clearly indicated that launching on frozen o-rings was a bad idea and management did it anyway. And Thalidomide didn't pass with flying colors for what it was dangerously marketed for (pregnancy).
